Nosy Manga - Hotel Ivato Airport

I stayed at Nosy Manga at the beginning, middle and end of my monthlong visit to Madagascar. It is a wonderful hotel and is very close to the airport so it is very convenient. Each time we went out to explore the south, west, east and north of the island we returned to Nosy Manga for a night or two. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are very comfortable and the restaurant serves delicious food. Every time that we came back to Nosy Manga it was like returning home.

Super convenient for the airport - just 10 mins by shuttle at 4.00am in the morning ! A lot of thought has gone into the design of this hotel, both in the rooms and public areas with many artworks. Cleverly different but modern - the outside street frontage is bland and does not do justice to the design of the interior which is much more exciting. Large restaurant frequented by outside patrons which served an excellent breakfast (with packed breakfast also for our 4.00am start) All the staff were pleasant and helpful. The only negative was that the fridge in the room had 2 small bottles of water in it and 2 small bottles of coke and nothing to tell you you would be charged for these should you be tempted to drink them - disappointing when everything else was so good.

This is a convenietly located hotel for those using the airport and not wanting to go to the centre of Tana. The transfer from/to the airport was around 5 minutes and was included in the price, which seems to be the case with other hotels near the airport too. The hotel is modern with nice decor, artwork and is clean. The room was spacious with a ceiling fan and the temperature in the room was comfortable. There was a hairdryer in the bathroom. No mosquito net over the bed and we eneded up being bitten in the night. Bittles of water in the room were chargeable. The buffet breakfast included cereal, selection of fresh breads and pastries, and some hot food. An average person would be probably happy with it but as vegans we could only have bread, sautee veg and some fruit marmolade. Not great taken into account the price and the fact the hotel was advised in advance of our dietary requirements. What we didn't like is that the driver who was picking us up clearly paid someone else to wait in the arrivals hall for us with the name of the hotel. We didn't know if he was really the person who was to pick us up as he didn't have our name and didn't speak any English. We didn't feel comfortable going with this man as he could be anyone, and this is a common scam in other African countries. We had to ring the hotel to check before we felt semi comfortable following this man to the car. We would suggest that the hotel sends drivers with actual names of their customers instead to make them feel more at ease. Since we arrived late in the evening, when we put the light on in the room, there was a dozen of cockroaches in the bathroom as well as on the walls and curtains in the bedroom. We understand they are common in the country but for the price paid, I expected the room to be fumigated before arrival. The reception staff were efficient and spoke English so the check in and check out was smooth.

To be near the airport (and with a free shuttle offered by the place) we selected this place due to good comments., to which we had to fully agree, when there. The place doesn't look very appealing from the outside, but once inside one is surprised by the tasteful interior decor. Check-in was easy and friendly. We also liked our room, one of very few with a terrace and outdoor seating. All functioned well in the quite spacious room. On the roof terrace there is a swimming pool, which we didn't use, but at the bar there, they made some excellent Mojitos. At the restaurant in the ground floor we had the opportunity to try some typical Malagasy dishes like Romazava, Ravintoto sy Henakisoa or Wok de Hisom sy Tsa Tsui, finishing the meal with a typical Rhum Arrangé.

The room was beautiful and the hotel is very well situated, less than ten minutes to the airport. Lovely rooftop café with a gorgeous pool (water too cold to swim). The front desk staff was super friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, the hotel itself is so poorly managed that we weren't able to fully enjoy our stay. The restaurant, in particular, could be better. The food was ok, but on multiple occasions, we had items added to our bill that we hadn't ordered. At every meal, the staff tried to clear our plates before we had finished eating and drinking. Our last night there, the water in the entire hotel was turned off, so we had to wait to shower until they solved the problem. It's unfortunate because the rooms were really lovely, but I'm not sure I'd stay here again.

This is a really excellent new addition to the Ivato hotels for a quick stay if you are in transit, or, a longer stay if you have something to do in that neighborhood. I have been in and out of the hotel I think three times during May and June and have really enjoyed each stay. Spotless and comfortable rooms, excellent roof terrace, slick atmosphere, well-trained staff, good restaurant service, decent food, my overall impression is very positive.
