Super 8 by Wyndham Canandaigua

Disgusting smell, throughout the hotel. Some type of 'fragrance' was used to mask the smell of mold and urine. (Pet friendly hotel). The smell worsened in the room when the air conditioner was turned on. Bedding was old, hallway walls had peeling wallpaper, rugs looked they had not been cleaned. The smell was AWFUL. We had to leave, it was that terrible. My husband gagged, and we not not fussy people. We left within 5 minutes of checking in, and will seek a full refund. Do yourself a favor AND STAY SOMEWHERE ELSE!

“Appalling and disgusting” is the only way to describe my recent experience at the Wyndham Super 8 in Canandaigua. We had tickets to attend the Chicago band concert and had found the Wyndham Super 8 to be the only place in town with vacancies. We expected “budget” hotel accommodations but were not prepared for what we experienced. Upon opening the room, we found the bed area to have crumbs on the floor with dust evident around the bases of the furniture and walls, as well as the surface areas. We had to borrow a broom, spray cleaner, and rags from a custodian who was working at the other end of the hall before we even considered unpacking. It wasn’t only a matter of poor daily cleaning. The lamp between the two beds had a partially broken/crushed lampshade. There were large lumps on a wall where nail holes had been crudely patched and not even sanded down before being painted over. There were wall areas where wires and some types of electrical equipment had been removed but not painted over. The bathroom was even more atrocious. Walls had been sloppily painted. There was dust/dirt and even a “curly” hair around the base of the toilet and floor tiles which were severely stained/moldy. There was dust/mold in the corners of the tile floor. The hair dryer and the bracket had a thick, visible layer of dust on it. The brackets for the shower curtain were rusty and dirty. Although I was brave enough to take a shower, my wife refused to do so. After the concert and getting back to the room, I had hoped to catch the late evening news. Although the TV did turn on with a “blue screen”, the cable connection wasn’t working and I was unable to get any channels. Since it was already 11:00 at night I simply turned off the lights and tried to go to sleep. If there had been enough room for the two of us, we would have considered sleeping in the car. I have used various Wyndham properties in the past and have never had any reason to complain. I cannot believe that Wyndham allows its name to be used at this property. Including local fees, I paid about $275 for my one-night stay. I assume that the prices were substantially raised from normal rates in order to take advantage of the concert situation. I have photos of all the items mentioned above (and more). I hope that someone will contact me directly to discuss this horrible experience.

Stay away from this place!!! Upon arriving to the facility and traveling through the large pot hole filled parking lot, we were first greeted by what I assume are permanent residents sitting next to the entrance that definitely make you wonder if your safe as they silently stare at you the entire way in and look rather sketchy. When you walk inside a very unpleasant odor of what I believe is moisture/ water type issues hits you in the face which leaves you second guessing the decision to stay here. After doing the pre registration online prior to arriving we are handed paperwork to complete this process again, why did we do it online but fine, whatever. We then are given our key and headed to the elevator for our 2nd floor room only to be shown the stairs and told no elevator, fine, whatever. Once we hit the 2nd floor we are then hit in the face with a very strong odor of chemicals and cigarette smoke which is very unpleasant. We make it to our room to find it dirty, stinky, and full of damage. Some photos are attached. Dirt stains on the floor, half patched walls, throughout, cob web corners, brown something on the toilet seat, and oh don’t forget to check out the shower head in the photo provided. Decided we would be cleaner to skip the room shower and freshen up elsewhere! We were in town for a concert one night and unfortunately everywhere else was already sold out- we were prepared to get a room elsewhere and be told by this dump they wouldn’t refund our money

Very disappointed was a lot worse than last year, room wreaked of cigarette smoke had all sorts of hair in the bathroom. The toilet seat was broke off. Only one bar of soap and two sets of towels for 5 people. They have lost our groups business.

There was no electricity for half of the night we stayed in the hotel. My kids couldn't sleep, we need refund.

There's a lot of smoking in the hotel which you'll definitely smell in your room. In the room; there's mold, plenty of dirt, other people's hair etc. The sheets had been changed. Staff was fine but I didn't have much interaction with the. If this hotel cost 58-65/ night it would be more inline with what one might expect. The impression I got was it was primarily a section a voucher hotel. I wouldn't broadly recommend it but for the right situation it's fine. (Most of the documentation I did regarding the rooms cleanness was in a video. Not a photo.)

The room had an odor - not moldy or mildew - but a sour smell. The floor was sticky and we needed to keep our shoes on. Bathroom was clean but there was no toilet paper when we arrived - had to go ask for some. The phone was flashing when we arrived so I picked up the receiver to see how to turn it off and the receiver was stuck in the phone. No one came to take out garbage or replenish towels. When we asked front desk for clean towels then told us to return the dirty ones and we could get clean ones. We stayed two nights and after we checked in on Friday we were told that there would be carpet laid in the morning and if we weren't out of the room before they started we would need to stay in our room until they were done. When we arrived back that night the carpet wasn't complete - and continued the next morning as we were checking out. Would we have been expected to stay in our room that whole time? The coffee in the lobby was good - but there was nothing else offered even though it states there would be breakfast items in the booking.

Parking lot was full of holes. The hotel was dirty in the hallways and kinda smelled. The beds were ok however the light in the bathroom is hooked up to a very noisy fan. There was no glasses in the bathroom. The view out our window was of the dumpster . The breakfast offered was coffee. There was nothing else but coffeee. The whole hotel needs a whole makeover. Will not be staying there ever again.
