NH Collection Porta Rossa

The hotel was amazing in every way except the bar which was very disappointing. Bartender was horrible and drinks were incredibly overpriced.

The location is perfect, right outside the most noisy part of the town, yet still close to everything. Of course you can still hear people on the streets at night, but Florence is not a quiet place to begin with and this is as good as you can get. They claim to be Italy's oldest hotel still operating. I was a little worried if that means the hotel would feel too old. Turned out that's not a concern at all. The lobby was antique and beautiful, but the room was as modern as any other hotels I stayed in. Very well appointed. There were some quirks, of course. Like not every room is directly accessible by the elevator, but for me it only makes the experience more unique. The staff were wonderful. They have a grace you don't see much these days, just like they are part of the hotel's history. They also have a water dispenser is several places, something that you rarely find in hotels. I also loved the doors on the window. When they were closed the room was truly dark even in the morning (not sure of they are available in all rooms) The breakfast was great. The dining area was elegant and the food was good. As a picky traveller I couldn't really find anything to complain about this hotel, and they certainly made me feel I was staying in a hotel that costs 50% more.
