Nice with great history. Expected more from the room I booked

Beautiful building and a lovely room. Excellent service, food was very good. It is well located, less than a twenty minute walk to the city centre.

I spent 2 nights in this hotel before and after my trip to Tortuguero. I have stayed in this hotel before and returned as I remembered it as a nice, small colonial type hotel. I was not disappointed on this visit. The staff is really nice and helpful. The rooms are clean, the bathroom bright, the bed comfortable and they store your suitcase for you if you go on 2-Day excursion and come back. They also prepared a nice breakfast box for me as I left before the normal breakfast hours. They also have a great restaurant in house which is worth a visit.

We had a wonderful stay at Hotel Grano de Oro in San José. The room was beautiful and very comfortable, and we were especially fascinated by the charm of the historic building. The staff were consistently friendly, attentive, and welcoming, which made our stay even more enjoyable. The location is also excellent for exploring the city. Although breakfast is only offered à la carte, it was still very delicious and of high quality.

Great hotel. We only stayed one night as a layover to collect a hire car. They arranged a transfer from the airport, upgraded our room and the dinner in the restaurant was really good. We were even adventurous enough to walk into the centre for a couple of drinks in Piso 3 and also do walk in the park first thing in the morning.

The Room with the patio was spacious. The bathroom was clean and the shower was very good, with good pressure and hot water. Breakfast was served from 7 am and everything was delicious. The Breakfast was served in a beautiful 'courtyard'. Room service was always delivered very quickly. Service was top-notch. As a ******* Gold member I got a complimenary bottle of wine and a nicely stocked mini fridge with juice, sodas and snacks.

Our stay was best described as ‘short but sweet’! The hotel is truly amazing in terms of decor, staff and accommodations. Five star all the way! We enjoyed an amazing meal at the restaurant and breakfast was also superb. Our waiter, Roman, was absolutely the most helpful and cordial you could imagine. Truly an overall gracious experience. We’ll definitely be back to the Grano de Oro at our first opportunity.

As a long-time domestic and international traveler, , staying for three nights at Hotel Grano de Oro was a simply fabulous experience. The hotel has luxurious old world charm. Our room had a private garden with incredibly lush plants and the dining room and courtyard were absolutely beautiful combining elegance and European style with contemporary appointments . The entire staff including Carlos the dining room manager, were extremely attentive and engaging. If you’re in San Jose, this would be my top choice to places to stay. On our tour to Costa Rica we spent our first and last nights in San Jose at the Hotel Grano de Oro. It was an excellent choice. Instead of the sterile could-be-anywhere typical downtown hotel we were treated to a small boutique hotel built in and around a historic 19th century mansion. Super friendly, helpful staff, a delightful in-house restaurant and lovely rooms rounded out a great experience. If you are traveling on your own stay here. If you are booking a private tour ask if they can lodge you at the Hotel Grano de Oro.
