Hospes Palau de La Mar, Valencia, a Member of Design Hotels

Very “meh” hotel. I have stayed at 4 other Hospes and this one falls far short. Building is unremarkable, rooms tired (portion of bathroom ceiling was cracked). Staff pleasant but junior staff were inexperienced (saw a couple of more senior staff looking frustrated with them). Hotel staff often looked away as you passed rather than make you feel welcome (reception staff a notable exception). Breakfast was fine but fairly ordinary compared to Hospes in (say) Mallorca. Overall wouldn’t stay again . price too high for quality and dilutes the brand.

We had a pleasant two-night stay at Hospes Palau de la Mar, but I wouldn’t consider it a five-star hotel—more like a four-star by European standards. The location was decent, about a 10-minute walk from the city center. While not exactly central, it was still convenient. We also walked to the Oceanogràfic aquarium and the Science Museum through a park, which took about 30 minutes. It was a nice walk, though a bit long. The hotel has a spa with a jacuzzi, steam room, sauna, and a small gym. However, access to the spa and gym was restricted by a locked gate requiring a PIN, meaning you had to ask reception each time to unlock it. At one point, I couldn’t open the gate to leave, and if not for a passerby heading to the restroom, I might have been stuck there for a while. This system felt inconvenient and inflexible. We booked a double room with a package that included welcome drinks, a bottle of cava in the room, a dinner for two, and a 30-minute massage for two. It was a good deal overall. However, when making the reservation, I specifically requested a quiet room away from the elevator on an upper floor. Ironically, we were assigned a room right next to the elevator on the lowest floor (1st). While I understand availability may have been limited, the staff didn’t acknowledge or explain this during check-in. Additionally, we had reserved dinner for 8 PM, but the staff booked us for 9 PM instead. The room itself was quite dark, with limited natural light, and the black-themed furniture made it feel even darker. Our package also included breakfast, but the selection was very limited. On the positive side, the staff were polite throughout our stay.

Our first trip to València and we were amazed by this beautiful city. The Hospes Palau de la Mar was the icing on the cake. Firstly the staff were charming and helpful, always with a greeting day & night, this is a small detail that makes all the difference. The building is an oasis and the design charming, our room was incredibly comfortable and the bathroom amazing. The hotel is impeccably clean and full of light. The location was perfect, a gentle 10 minute stroll to the old town and fabulous location for shopping & dining out The breakfast is superb & worth paying for. We will hopefully return, thank you everyone for a fabulous stay.

Modern hotel with spacious, super comfortable rooms. The concierge won us over entirely. He could not have been more helpful or appreciative of our needs. He had an excellent knowledge of places to go, the best ways to get there, and just really made us feel at home. Our stay was, unfortunately, brief; just one night. We will definitely look to stay here if we are back in Valencia.
