Strolling Around Nara - Japan

Strolling around Nara is an excellent choice to escape from the busy city-life in the big cities of Japan. This place is surrounded with so much nature and fresh air that will make you feel recharged. There are many trail options to walk around which are serene, peaceful, and not too crowded easy to hike. Expect to see parks and breathtaking temples and wild deers as well. Speaking of food, it would take a long time to sample all the Japanese traditional dishes. Todaiji temple

During my one day trip to Nara, I also visited the todaiji temple here. An entrance fee is required. The temple looks pretty and the structure was nice in terms of architecture. I went in to the temple and there were also shops selling charms which you can buy as souvenirs. There is also this pillar with a hole where there is a saying that if you can get pass it, you will have good luck and health. Interesting. Overall enjoyed my visit here and went around taking some nice pictures.

Shosoin and Shosoin Exhibition

Nara Todai-ji Temple's Shosoin was built in the 8th year of the Tenpyo Shoho era (756 AD). It was built because Empress Komyo donated all the beloved items of the late Emperor Shomu to the Great Buddha of Todai-ji Temple (Vairocana Buddha) and all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. This marked the beginning of the history of the "Shosoin Treasures". After that, the treasures offered by the royal family, together with the Buddhist instruments, ritual items, and ancient documents mainly used for the eye-opening ceremony of the Great Buddha of Todai-ji Temple, formed the large-scale Shosoin Treasures we see today. The treasures include the daily necessities and collections of emperors and nobles, as well as the household registration of ordinary people. There are many types and quantities of treasures, many of which come from overseas, especially from the Tang Dynasty. Therefore, Shosoin can also be regarded as a microcosm of ancient culture centered on the culture of the Tang Dynasty in China. The Shosoin, which houses these treasures, is located in the northwest of the Great Buddha Hall of Todai-ji Temple. It is a wooden structure with a simple and unadorned design. In 1946, the first Shosoin Exhibition was held at the Nara National Museum. Since 1947, the Shosoin Exhibition has become a regular exhibition held every autumn and continues to this day. The Nara National Museum also built a new building for this purpose, with a design inspired by the Shosoin. Photography is not allowed in the Shosoin Exhibition Hall, but there are high-quality exhibition catalogs available for purchase. Nigatsudo todaiji 🙏🛕

#fallingseason #helloautumn #timetotravel To the east of Todaiji Temple, Nigatsudo is a smaller temple also part of Todaiji, but an important complex in its own right. At sunset, it offers one of the most beautiful scenes in all of Nara. You can approach from a path in front of Todaiji, which leads up cobbled steps flanked by ancient stone walls, or from the back of Todaiji, where the path leads to a covered wooden staircase. Either way, as you reach the top, the magnificent wooden structure of the main hall looms above you. As the sun sets and the lanterns are lit, the views over Nara are unbeatable. The Nigatsudo is best known for Omizutori, a fire and water ceremony on March 12 every year, where huge flaming torches are held out from the temple balcony. The next day, sacred water is drawn from a well under the temple, which is said to have healing properties. The ceremony has been held here without a break since 752.

First Trip to Nara

January 17, 2024 Our first drive trip to Nara Prefecture. A couple's journey exploring nature and history. ● Transportation Light car. It took 2.5 hours from Osaka using the highway (with breaks). The road from Osaka was not very crowded, and we arrived on time. ● Tourist Cities Higashiyoshino Village in Yoshino District, Niukawakami Shrine, Nara City (Great Buddha of Nara) ● Payment Cash for shopping at the shrine. Around the Great Buddha in Nara City, local products are sold, and credit cards and electronic money are accepted.

When I was in Nara I came across this small cosy restaurant with such a long queue and decided to try their food for lunch! They specialize in selling hot stove rice and I ordered one which came with lots of ingredients like prawn and seafood etc. The rice portion was huge and one could have at least 2-3 servings. The queue was really long and waited more than 2 hours for this under the hot sun but food was good. You are served your food almost immediately when seated so that is the good thing.
