Okinawa|Freshly Sliced Tuna Sashimi, A Burst of Fresh Flavor!

The Tomari Fish Market in Okinawa is a haven for the freshest and most local seafood. As you step into the market, you're greeted by the aroma of the sea, with stalls displaying freshly caught fish, each piece exuding the sweetness of the ocean. It's a must-visit for food lovers. The market's biggest attraction, besides the wide variety of seafood, is the free cooking service! You can choose your freshly bought seafood and have it prepared by the stall owner or at a dedicated service counter. Whether you prefer it steamed, in soup, or pan-fried, you can enjoy freshly cooked seafood tailored to your taste. There's even a professional on-site to slice the fish, showcasing their skill and ensuring the freshness of the fish. I ended up choosing a box of assorted tuna sashimi. Each piece was vibrant in color, with evenly distributed fat, melting in your mouth with a burst of oceanic sweetness. Sitting in the outdoor seating area of the market, enjoying the sea breeze while savoring this simple yet rich delicacy, made me feel closer to the ocean. If you love tasting fresh seafood and enjoying the authentic atmosphere of a fishing port, the Tomari Fish Market is a stop you can't miss!

Fukushūen Garden

#okinawatrip This is a must see garden in Naha! It has beautiful spots for photo opportunities! If you go, try to make it a little before the sun goes down so you can see it in the light as well as lit up once it gets dark. The price is very worth the visit- not expensive at all. They have bathrooms, plenty of spots to sit and rest, and drink/ice cream vending machines. If you want to feed the fish in the various ponds you can purchase food for 100Y. Biggest perk is it is dog friendly so bring your pup, but make sure they are on a leash and you bring bags to pick up after them if they go poo.

If you're visiting Okinawa for the first time, this is a no-brainer.

If you're visiting Okinawa for the first time, this is a no-brainer.

If you're not driving in Okinawa, I really recommend joining a day tour, so you can just focus on taking photos 😂. When I took the bus to the outlying islands later... ✏ To avoid getting up early, I chose the classic North Line tour that meets at 8:45. We didn't get back to the prefectural office until 19:00. ✨ Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium 2 hours 30 minutes The only paid attraction worth visiting. Follow Crayon Shin-chan to the aquarium. The highlights are the whale sharks and dolphin show, the rest can be skipped. Two and a half hours is enough for a rough visit. If you want to explore it thoroughly, I suggest spending a whole day there, as the round-trip bus ride is time-consuming. 🐋 ✨ Kouri Beach 20 minutes Check in at Kouri Bridge. The sea in Okinawa is really nice. It was cloudy and drizzling at the time, but the sea was still clear and transparent. 🌊 ✨ Onna no Eki Nakayukui Market 20 minutes There is a store on Kokusai Street. It's a good place to stop and rest, and recharge your energy. ✨ Cape Manzamo 20 minutes (JPY 100/person) Well, it was backlit in the afternoon, but I did see a rainbow that day. 🌈 ✨ American Village 50 minutes Oh my god, it's like an open-air set. It's a bit... depending on your personal preference. But it's really good for taking photos, especially at night when the lights are on. The area is not small, so 50 minutes is a bit rushed. 🏰 💁 I weighed my options and decided to join a day tour, as I didn't want to tire myself out. It was actually quite good, and the time at each attraction was very precise. 😅 It was a bit rushed, maybe because I spent too much time taking photos.

Okinawa | Firewood Roasted Sweet Potatoes, A Heartwarming Treat

Okinawa | Tomari Port Fish Market Winter in Okinawa has its own unique charm. Amidst the chilly sea breeze, nothing warms you up more than a hot roasted sweet potato. Right at the entrance of Tomari Port Fish Market, there's a small stall that specializes in firewood roasted sweet potatoes. The simple setup exudes an irresistible aroma. These sweet potatoes are roasted using firewood, absorbing the natural fragrance of the wood during the process. The skin is slightly charred, while the inside is delicate, soft, and rich in sweetness. Each bite feels like a heartwarming gift in the winter. The stall owner carefully controls the heat to ensure the sweet potatoes are at the perfect temperature, warming both your hands and your stomach. In the cold winter, a freshly roasted sweet potato is the best comfort food. If you've just finished shopping at the market, grab one and enjoy the tranquility and warmth of Okinawa's winter. Shikina-en Garden,
thingstodo

Shikina-en Garden,

#thingstodo Shikina-en Garden, rebuilt after the Okinawa War, was originally built as former Ryukyu kings' 2nd residence and probably summer house in 18th century [1799 AD]. Even after it was rebuilt, it was designated as one of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Unlike other traditional Japanese gardens of imperial families or dignities, which are often composed of pond, flower trees, bamboo trees, stone bridge, artificial hills and rivers, Shikina-en Garden has Chinese-style pavilion, pond in Chinese "heart" shape, fewer flower trees, but lots of tall trees, especially banyan trees, which can shield visitors or users from sunshine even though trees' roots develop and grow like spiderwebs. The entrance fee for the Garden is $ 400 Yen.

Organic Supermarket with a Wide Selection Despite Its Size in Naha, Okinawa!

Okinawa🫧Naha City Organic Market Tempusu Naha Store Visited on a Saturday afternoon. There are a few parking spaces right in front of the store. I was lucky enough to find a spot, but there weren't many spaces available. When traveling in Okinawa, eating out constantly can be tough on the stomach, so I've recently adopted a routine of cooking for myself in between meals out. With that in mind, I was looking for an organic supermarket and found this place, so I decided to check it out. The store isn't extremely spacious, but I was surprised by the wide range of products, from rare items to everyday purchases! They also sell freshly baked bread and smoothies made in-store, and although I didn't buy any on this visit, they also offer bento boxes. Some of the bread options are gluten-free! Address: 2-23-20 Makishi, Naha City, Okinawa Prefecture, Takara Apartment 1F Hours: Monday to Saturday 09:30 - 18:30 Sundays and Holidays 11:00 - 16:00
