A must-try delicacy in this city is Hida beef, which is as delicious as Kobe beef. For souvenirs, besides sake, there are Sarubobo dolls that are exclusively made and sold in the Takayama area. For those planning to stay for several nights, there are plenty of activities: start your morning with a stroll through the Miyagawa morning market, then head to the Sanmachi district to take photos with the red Nakabashi Bridge. In the afternoon, relax in an onsen and visit the Hida no Sato village. End your day with tender Hida beef and a cold beer. Spend a slow, relaxing day in the old town of Takayama, and you might find yourself recharged for another week of work.

Is Takayama boring?

Not at all! We went to the Miyagawa Morning Market by the riverside early in the morning. It's an early morning market open from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM, where you can find seasonal fruits, various Takayama snacks, souvenirs, and more. Unlike other markets, it's not crowded, and the peaceful environment made our visit very pleasant. You can buy something to eat and enjoy it slowly while watching the river. You can do this in Takayama ^_^ I highly recommend the Hida beef sushi! 🚌Transportation: 15-minute walk from Takayama Station

Ambiance/Facilities - Sanmachi Street, Every turn is picturesque here in Takayama City, Gifu Prefecture. feels like you’re walking into history because of the preservation of the town construction from the Edo period. please visit this small town, it’s really pretty. This is the highlight of takayama city. Highlights - there are many food stores and sake workshop here. it probably opens at 8/9am and close around 4 or 5 here. they really focus on work life balance. must try the hifu beef nigiri. Rating - 4/5

A small friendly sushi restaurant with great sushi. The sushi is fresh and the price is reasonable. Don't miss the Hida beef sushi too. Strongly recommended. Fresh sushi is served. The owners are friendly and the service is fast. The sushi set comes with the miso soup which is super Delicious!

Takayama, located in the mountainous Hida region of Gifu Prefecture, is a charming city known for its well-preserved Edo-period streets, traditional wooden houses, and rich cultural heritage. It's a little bit like a little Kyoto. However, if you want to take pictures with fewer people, consider getting up early in the morning :). We chose Takayama as our base the explore the Chuubuu region. Here is our 3D2N itinerary: Day 1: Train to Takayama, visit the Hida Fold village and the Takayama old town. #artshunting address - 1-19 Shimosannomachi, Takayama, Gifu 506-0814 located at takayama, above a quaint cafe called Quon’s cafe which sells excellent blended chocolate. very cute memorabilia of Gifu japan. that little three man truck was the highlight of the museum (in my humble opinion) never seen it before previously. not many people there, showcases many of the old toys of the past. even the massage chairs are interesting, does people actually use it? nostalgic place.

We arrived in Takayama and immediately felt its charm. We wandered through the morning markets. Wooden houses lined the narrow alleys, and the air was filled with the scent of fresh wood and local delicacies. The vendors, with their warm smiles, made it feel like we were part of the town’s daily rhythm. Lunch was unforgettable—hearty Hida beef that melted in our mouths. The rich flavors stayed with us long after the meal. It is a perfect reflection of Takayama’s love for quality, local ingredients. Afterward, we strolled along the river. The calm waters reflected the surrounding mountains. We spotted swans gliding gracefully across the water and koi fish swimming beneath the surface. It felt like we were in a living painting. Takayama’s blend of tradition and warmth made it a place we didn’t want to leave. #magicalxmastrip
