Here are several secrets that Angkor Wat keeps. 1. 320 temples of Angkor Wat correspond to the location of visible stars in the northern hemisphere of the sky, and 15 main temples of Angkor exactly repeat the location of the stars from the constellation of the Dragon. There is a theory that the ancient builders looked at the stars, and made such an exact location, 2. In the very center of the main temple there is a square perfectly aligned and exactly coinciding with the four cardinal directions. The ceiling in the temple also points to the northeast, northwest, southeast, and southwest. All eight perfectly aligned lines meet on the ceiling exactly in the center of the temple, right above the square on the floor. 3. The past has left us a negligible amount of written evidence related to the history of the construction of temples in Angkor. And just to visually inspect all the sights, of those that are now found, an ordinary tourist will not have enough for a week. The reasons why the Khmers left the largest city at the mercy of the jungle about 500 years ago and left these lands are still unknown. In the 1300s, it was one of the largest cities in the world, perhaps even the largest, with up to 1 million people living in it. 4. Angkor is also called the city of the gods. Surprisingly, Khmer temples were never intended for gatherings of believers. They were built precisely as the dwelling place of the gods. 5. Each intricate carving on the walls was covered with gold sheets. To this day, you can still see a few golden spots if you look closely enough. Only recently, some of the 1796 carvings have been restored. 6. Angkor Wat has many correspondences in numbers. There are a total of 108 towers in the shape of lotus buds, a sacred number for both Hindi and Buddhists. According to Hinduism, man has an immortal soul that can roam the worlds. The three levels of the temple symbolize these worlds: lower, middle and higher.The layout of Angkor Wat reflects the Hindu cosmos itself and represents one large sacred mandala. 7. According to the Hindu cycle of development or the cosmic cycle, humanity goes through four stages: 1,728,000 years – the Age of dawn (Golden Age); 1,296,000 years – the era of stagnation; 864,000 years - the age of dusk; 432,000 years – the era of decline. In Angkor Wat, roads are built exactly according to these cycles - 1728, 1296, 864 and 432 huts (1 hut is equal to 0.5 meters).

The BEST experience getting up at 4am to watch the sunrise over Angkor Wat I urge everyone to see it if you are ever in Siem Reap is by far the top thing to do in city, in the whole of Cambodia even Exploring the temples cycling was a once in a lifetime experience even if that means a full day of cycling in the 35 degree heat. We definitely made the right choice to see it this way. You can cycle along the ride paddies from temple to temple, find hidden paths that no Tuk Tuks can get down, stop at the smaller ruins that everyone misses and see Angkor Wat in a different light a day that I will never forget with the perfect sunset to finish #cambodia #angkorwat

Tips for Travelers to Angkor Wat

Flights: Domestic flights often require a transfer in Kunming and can be expensive. It's recommended to fly directly to Bangkok, spend a few days there, and then fly to Siem Reap. If you book early, a ticket from Bangkok to Siem Reap can cost as little as $400! Visa: The cheapest option is a visa on arrival for $25, and they will give change! However, make sure your US dollars are not damaged, as customs won't accept them if they are. After landing, fill out the arrival card before applying for the visa on arrival, which takes about 20 minutes. Airport to City: There is a bus to the CDF duty-free shop, which takes about an hour, but buses are infrequent. A taxi costs around $100. Hotels: Siem Reap is small, so it's best to book a hotel near Pub Street for convenience and nightlife. Prices are around $30, and I found a good one for just over $15. Hotels are affordable and offer good value. Dining: Head straight to Khmer Taste Restaurant for affordable meals! Other places are quite expensive. There's also a seafood buffet hotpot, popular with locals, located at People by the Community, costing $10 per person excluding drinks. Meals inside Angkor Wat are pricey. Guides: On the first day, we had an older guide whose Chinese wasn't great, making the experience less enjoyable. The second day, we had a female guide who spoke excellent Chinese and was informative. The cost for a day, including a 7-seater car, was $95. Small Circuit: I recommend visiting only Angkor Wat! Honestly, it's a sincere suggestion as other sites might cause aesthetic fatigue unless your guide is exceptional. It's currently the rainy season, so there's no need to climb Bakheng Mountain as there's not much to see, and you won't catch the sunset. Grand Circuit and Outer Circuit: I didn't visit the Grand Circuit, so no comment, but the Outer Circuit is worth seeing. It's relaxed, with most time spent in the car, so there's no need to walk around much. Safety: The locals are very friendly and honest, so there's no need to worry about being robbed; they won't steal your phone. Laundry: Laundry is cheap, costing $1 per kg, and they deliver it to your hotel! Tickets: Buy e-tickets a day in advance using Visa for the best price. #createwithtrip Long ago, a wise man told me if you rich the stone of the Angkor Wat Temple and make your wish, you can bury your dark secret and good life will ensue. True or not, I am not sure but this place is worth a visit a million times. Buried in the thick forest for centuries, a mighty kingdom in ancient days, it is only fate that this marvel was discovered once again for humankind to admire and respect. No amount of accolades and United Nation recognition are enough to describe the awe inspiring and jaw dropping grandness of this temple. One can spend one day to tour the temple or weeks to study the designs and carving of the godly stone and drawing. It was mesmerising. Every time i left as a happy person and longing to be back to learn some more.

I recently had the incredible opportunity to visit Angkor Wat, one of the most magnificent and iconic ancient sites in the world, located in Siem Reap, Cambodia. Truly the experience of a lifetime! We took a tour to see the sunrise over the temple and it was truly an amazing site. Almost the entire temple complex is open to be explored. You can visit the first, second, and the top levels of the temple. It was originally built as a Hindu Temple and was later converted into a Buddhist temple. Tons of history at the site.
