Chitose travel guide and discussion

For those looking for souvenirs from their Hokkaido trip or wanting to enjoy airport gourmet food, I highly recommend the "Biei Corn Bread" and "Bean Bread" available at New Chitose Airport! This time, I was finally able to get my hands on the corn bread and bean bread I'd been wanting for so long. Hokkaido is known for its delicious dairy products, seafood, sweets, and many other attractive gourmet delights, but for bread lovers, these products are a must-try. The Biei Corn Bread sold at New Chitose Airport is a popular product known for fully showcasing the charm of Hokkaido's ingredients. Furthermore, if you can purchase the bean bread as well, you can enjoy comparing the delicious flavors of Hokkaido's unique breads. 【Corn Bread: A Taste of Hokkaido】 First, let's focus on the corn bread. When you think of Hokkaido, you think of corn! Sweet corn is one of Hokkaido's representative flavors, and it's wonderful to be able to enjoy its charm in bread form. The charm of corn bread lies in the delicious taste of corn combined with the bread. While many people associate Hokkaido cuisine with ramen, seafood bowls, and Jingisukan (grilled lamb), bread made with these ingredients is another Hokkaido delicacy we highly recommend trying. It's perfect as a snack during your trip, for breakfast at your hotel, or as a treat after returning home. Relive your Hokkaido travel memories through food – that's one of the charms of souvenir gourmet items. 【Don't miss the bean bread!】 This time, I purchased bean bread along with the corn bread. Bread made with beans offers a variety of flavors depending on the combination of ingredients, which is part of its appeal. This is a product we recommend for those looking for a bread that's uniquely Hokkaido, or for those who want to choose a souvenir that's a little different from the usual sweets. Since corn bread and bean bread each offer different flavors, if you can buy both, be sure to compare them. They make great souvenirs to give to others, or as a treat for yourself. [Shopping at New Chitose Airport is part of the fun of traveling] New Chitose Airport is a place where souvenirs and gourmet foods from all over Hokkaido gather. The time spent looking for souvenirs before boarding your return flight is one of the joys of a Hokkaido trip. The availability of bread, in addition to sweets and dairy products, is also appealing. The joy of purchasing items that are difficult to find outside of your travel destination, or items you've been wanting to buy for a while, is especially wonderful. However, popular items may sell out, so if you absolutely want to buy something, it's recommended to visit the store with plenty of time to spare. Sales conditions and purchasing methods may change, so it's best to check the latest information before visiting. Also, be careful with how you transport and store bread. After purchase, store it according to the product instructions and enjoy it while it's still delicious. [Recommended as a souvenir from your Hokkaido trip] When traveling in Hokkaido, it's important to enjoy foods that can only be tasted locally. Besides visiting famous tourist spots, experiencing the unique food culture of the region is a major part of the enjoyment of travel. The corn bread and bean bread I bought from Biei this time were products that truly let me experience the joy of Hokkaido's gourmet food. If you're planning to use New Chitose Airport, looking for a souvenir that's uniquely Hokkaido, or simply a bread lover, be sure to check them out! Why not make your Hokkaido trip even more enjoyable by including the time spent searching for delicious food at the airport at the end of your trip? Hokkaido has so many attractive foods, but encountering bread like this will also broaden the enjoyment of your trip. When you visit New Chitose Airport, be sure to check out Biei's corn bread and bean bread! *Popular items may not be available depending on sales status. Please check the latest information regarding business hours, sales methods, and purchase restrictions before visiting. #NewChitoseAirport #Biei #CornBread #BeanBread #HokkaidoGourmet #HokkaidoTravel #HokkaidoSouvenir #AirportGourmet #BreadLover #TravelGourmet

Tucked at the foot of majestic Mount Yotei, Fukidashi Park celebrates one of Japan’s celebrated top‑100 natural waters, where meltwater from the volcano slowly filters through deep volcanic rock for decades before surging out into the open air. This quiet woodland escape draws travellers chasing unbelievably crisp, sweet spring water — and it makes a perfect road‑trip pit stop between Niseko and Lake Shikotsu. Step out from the car park beside the local product shop and public restrooms, and set off along flat, gentle walking paths winding through lush northern forest. Calm reflective ponds spread across the park, mirroring the sharp symmetrical cone of Mount Yotei on still, quiet mornings. Bright marker buoys dot the crystal‑clear pools, creating one of Hokkaido’s most recognisable photographic scenes. Cross the atmospheric suspension bridge hanging over gurgling stream channels shaded by thick tree cover, before you reach the main spring outlet. At the spring source, vast volumes of icy, translucent groundwater bubble endlessly from beneath the rocks. Visitors bring empty bottles and jugs to fill for free. The water tastes unbelievably soft and sweet, cold straight out of the earth, unprocessed and untouched. Many locals drive long distances just to stock up here. The full loop takes only forty to sixty minutes, no tough hiking required. Wander slowly, listen to the constant rush of flowing water, and soak in the peaceful woodland atmosphere. In autumn, fiery fall colours frame the spring outlets, turning the whole park into a dream‑like scene. After exploring the trails, pop into the onsite shop. Try treats made using this famous spring water, alongside regional Hokkaido snacks. Skip rushing through; arrive early to beat crowds and catch perfect mountain reflections. If you travel around Yotei, do not pass by Fukidashi Park — taste the pure, sweet gift from Mount Yotei itself. #fukidashipark #springwater #mountyotei #niseko #hokkaido

If you’re traveling through New Chitose Airport, one hotel you absolutely must experience is PORTOM INTERNATIONAL HOKKAIDO. I initially thought, "It's an airport hotel, so it's probably just about convenience, right?" But after staying there, it far exceeded my expectations. The first thing that blew me away was the room size. Unlike typical airport hotels where the bed takes up the entire space, these rooms feature sofas and tables, providing a truly relaxing environment. The elegant, muted interior design was so lovely that just staying the night before or after a flight felt like a luxury I didn't want to end. Even just walking through the hotel is a joy! With its grand atrium and striking decor, there are so many photogenic spots. The atmosphere is so quiet and sophisticated that you completely forget you're inside an airport. In the evening, I headed to THE BAR 🥂 With its dim lighting and mature vibe, it’s the perfect place to unwind at the end of a journey. The wine display was absolutely breathtaking. From the delicious meals to relaxing with a drink and some cheese, I fully immersed myself in the hotel experience. The best part is its unbeatable location within the New Chitose Airport International Terminal. According to official info, it’s about a 10-minute walk (approx. 700m) from the JR New Chitose Airport Station gates. It’s incredibly convenient for early morning flights or as the first or last stop on a Hokkaido trip. ✔︎ For those who want to relax in a spacious room ✔︎ For those who won't compromise on both convenience and atmosphere ✔︎ For those who want a sophisticated night at a bar ✔︎ For those who love photogenic hotels This is a hotel I’d recommend to anyone looking for exactly that. It’s not just a place to "stay at the airport"—it’s a destination worth building your travel itinerary around. I’ll definitely be back for my next Hokkaido trip! ✈️🤍 📍PORTOM INTERNATIONAL HOKKAIDO New Chitose Airport International Terminal Hotel

This is a review of the relatively new card lounge that opened in April 2025. I visited recently before a domestic flight ✈️ In addition to the "Super Lounge" on the 3rd floor, New Chitose Airport also features the "Super Lounge Annex" on the 4th floor. 📍 New Chitose Airport Domestic Terminal, 4F 🕐 7:00 AM – 8:30 PM 💳 Free for eligible Gold cardholders with a same-day boarding pass *Available for both departures and arrivals 🪑 81 seats 📶 Free Wi-Fi available 🚬 Smoking room available 🍺 Alcohol available for a fee ☕ Enjoy a taste of Hokkaido with local beverages During my visit, I enjoyed: ☕ MORIHICO. coffee 🥛 Soft Katsugen Having Morihiko coffee is a wonderful local touch unique to New Chitose Airport. They even have original coffee cups. Since Soft Katsugen is also complimentary, it’s a nice way to enjoy one last "Hokkaido flavor" before you leave. There was also a standard drink bar for other soft drinks, along with snacks like nuts and Kaki-no-Tane (rice crackers). 💻 A lounge designed for business productivity Compared to the 3rd-floor lounge, this one feels much more geared toward business use. There are many private booths and seats optimized for solo travelers. The official description highlights "private booths ideal for business use and seating that is easy for individuals to use." I opted for a booth seat equipped with a monitor. They were full when I arrived, but one opened up almost immediately. While there are signs reminding guests to be mindful of their volume, these monitor booths do allow for voice-based web meetings. It’s an excellent setup for those needing to get work done or join online calls. However, in my experience, the private boxes and monitor booths are often full. Keep in mind they might not always be available. 🪑 A wide variety of seating options The lounge offers several types of seating: ・Private booths ・Semi-private seats ・Sofa seats ・Big table seats According to the official website, the 81 seats consist of 4 private booths, 11 semi-private seats, 56 sofa seats, and 10 seats at the large table. The entire space feels new, clean, and has a calm atmosphere. On the other hand, there are no windows, so it’s not the type of lounge where you can watch the planes. If you want to relax while watching the aircraft, head to the 3rd floor. If you want to focus on work or prefer a quiet, individual space, the 4th-floor Annex is the way to go. Other users also note that, unlike the 3rd-floor lounge, the Annex lacks a view but offers a better environment for teleworking. 🍺 Sapporo Classic for just 500 yen While alcohol isn't free, you can enjoy a draft Sapporo Classic for 500 yen. It’s a great way to have one last taste of Hokkaido beer before boarding your flight 🍺 🚻 Restrooms are located outside There are no restrooms inside the Annex lounge itself. You’ll need to use the restrooms located just outside the entrance. It's helpful to remember this if you plan on staying for a while. ✈️ My overall experience I visited on a Tuesday between 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM. The lounge wasn't crowded overall, and finding a seat wasn't an issue. However, the private boxes and monitor booths were completely full. I was lucky enough to snag a monitor booth right as someone left, but these two types of seating seem to be quite popular. Personally, I see this more as a "productivity hub" rather than a "relaxation lounge" compared to the 3rd-floor location. With local perks like Morihiko coffee and Soft Katsugen, it's a very convenient spot for anyone looking to get some work done before departure. When choosing a card lounge at New Chitose Airport: go to the 3rd floor if you want the view, and the 4th floor Annex if you want a quiet place to work ✈️

💙 One of Hokkaido’s most breathtaking lakes—still a hidden gem that you simply must experience at least once in your life. 💬 If you’re looking for the most "quietly stunning" spot in Hokkaido, Lake Shikotsu is the answer. 🧊 Beyond its crystal-clear summer waters, winter transforms this place into a masterpiece. It is a realm of absolute stillness and cold, where the snow is as light and fluffy as cotton candy. 🍥❄️ 🌬️ The air is biting but refreshing, carrying the scent of pure, untouched nature. Strolling by the lake as light snow falls feels like being wrapped in a beautiful silence. The only sound is the soft crunch of your boots sinking into the deep powder. 👣 🚶‍♀️💨 The lakeside drive is breathtakingly beautiful—no exaggeration. With white snow dusting everything in sight, you have deep turquoise waters reflecting the mountains on one side and frosted trees on the other. It’s a delicate, wintry grace that truly must be seen to be believed. 🫶🏻 🪷 As one of Japan’s deepest caldera lakes, Lake Shikotsu never freezes. 🌋 Thanks to its depth and geothermal warmth, you get the surreal contrast of shimmering water framed by snow-capped peaks—a scene straight off a postcard. 🎑 🧤 The snow here is light as powder, coating every branch and rooftop. If you love capturing serene, crowd-free landscapes, Lake Shikotsu is paradise! 📸🌨️ 🎯 Why you should visit: 🌟 It’s much less crowded than Lake Toya or Lake Akan. 🚌 Easy access—just an hour from New Chitose Airport. 📷 A dream for photographers who love raw, natural beauty. 💙 Perfect for recharging your soul away from the masses, just sitting quietly and listening to the falling snow. 🧣 Travel Tips: 🧥 Bundle up with a high-quality coat, hat, and gloves. Most importantly, wear non-slip snow boots, as the paths can be quite icy. 👢 The boots I wore handled the terrain perfectly! 📱 Keep your camera ready—these views are too stunning to leave behind. 📷✨ Lake Shikotsu isn't about high-octane thrills; it’s about a quiet, haunting beauty that lingers in your heart long after you leave.

Having visited Hokkaido so many times, I’ve experienced spring, summer, autumn, and winter. While the snow-covered, dreamlike winter scenery remains my most unforgettable memory, I also highly recommend visiting in the autumn. During this season, Hokkaido’s layers of color are as vibrant as a spilled paint palette. The weather is cool, but it hasn't reached the bone-chilling cold of the snowy months. Best of all, since the roads aren't yet covered in thick snow, driving is much easier. You won't need to stress over navigating snowy conditions, allowing you to cruise along the highways and effortlessly soak in the endless autumn colors outside your window. In addition to the traditional maple leaves, autumn in Hokkaido also hides some incredibly soothing spots to view Kochia (summer cypress). For instance, Yuni Garden, just an hour’s drive from Sapporo, features expansive hills blanketed in Kochia that shift from vibrant green to bright and deep reds. These fields of round, fluffy little balls are less crowded, making for off-the-charts cute photos. You can also find Kochia at the Takino Suzuran Hillside National Park, located in the Sapporo suburbs. Of course, the main event is absolutely the autumn foliage and ginkgo trees. Take Jozankei Onsen, for example—the entire town is surrounded by mountains blanketed in red, yellow, and green leaves. Strolling through the valley and seeing the colorful mountains reflected in the water makes every snapshot look like a postcard, and you can even enjoy a relaxing hot spring bath while you're there. If you prefer to enjoy the autumn vibes within the city, that's perfectly fine too. Hokkaido University and Nakajima Park boast epic, golden ginkgo avenues and vibrant red maples. If you have a few extra days, I highly recommend driving into the mountains to Sounkyo. It's the first place in Hokkaido to see autumn leaves. Riding the ropeway to look down at the dramatic cliffs and the sea of autumn trees covering the mountains is a truly breathtaking visual experience. Alternatively, drive out to Lake Shikotsu to take in the clear, stunning reflections of the lake and mountains; taking a road trip along the lakeside route is incredibly relaxing. If your itinerary takes you down to Southern Hokkaido, Onuma Quasi-National Park near Hakodate is a must-visit spot for autumn leaves. The lake reflecting the majestic Mount Komagatake, framed by mountains ablaze in red maples, is purely poetic—whether you’re hiking the trails or renting a boat. In the evening, head over to Kosetsuen, Hakodate’s only nationally designated scenic garden, to admire the magical, illuminated night maples. Every single spot will make you want to stay forever. The autumn weather in Hokkaido can be quite unpredictable, with significant temperature drops between day and night—evening temperatures can even dip into the single digits (Celsius). I recommend dressing in layers and definitely bringing a warm jacket. With the roads being dry and easy to navigate this time of year, renting a car for a road trip is the best way to link all these beautiful suburban sights. Keep an eye on the latest autumn foliage forecasts so you can easily adjust your route on the fly. Do you love autumn in Hokkaido, too? The anniversary event for Garage Rental Cars Hokkaido, the only car rental company Lulu recommends, has officially kicked off! If you're planning a road trip in Hokkaido this autumn, hurry up and secure your booking!

We dropped by "Takibi Robata Amayadori" while heading to Chitose. We didn't have a reservation and arrived around 6:00 PM. Luckily, we got seated right away without a wait. Ordering is super convenient—just scan the QR code with your phone to view the menu and place your order. There's absolutely no language barrier for foreign tourists, so there is no need to worry about not understanding a Japanese menu. We ordered a few signature dishes, and the overall taste was quite good: Chicken Neck (Seseri): This was definitely the MVP of the night! The meat was super bouncy and juicy with a hint of charcoal smoke. Paired with the chopped green onions, grated radish, and lemon juice on the side, it was incredibly refreshing and went perfectly with drinks. Highly recommended! Tsukimi Chicken Meatball & Mini Sashimi Bowl: The chicken meatball was incredibly smooth when dipped in the rich raw egg yolk. The mini sashimi bowl was beautifully presented and the ingredients were very fresh, though the types of sashimi served were slightly different from the menu. Beef Tongue: The seasoning and texture were spot on, but unfortunately, it wasn't piping hot when it arrived at the table. Being just lukewarm slightly affected the flavor, which was a bit of a letdown. Overall, the dining environment was comfortable, the service was fast, and ordering was a breeze. Paired with an ice-cold Highball or beer, it made for a really great izakaya experience! 📍 Store Name: Takibi Robata Amayadori Chitose Branch

For the final stop of our Hokkaido road trip, we came to Chitose. Before heading to New Chitose Airport, we set aside a little time to visit Doremo LeTAO! This isn't the LeTAO inside the airport, but rather a large LeTAO Café located in downtown Chitose, just a short distance from New Chitose Airport. 🥞 You absolutely have to try the pancakes here! Besides the well-known Double Fromage cheesecake, I think the pancakes are even more worth trying when you visit Doremo LeTAO. The pancakes are incredibly fluffy with a light, airy texture. This time, I tried the seasonal limited-edition melon pancake. The cloud-like fluffy pancake paired with cantaloupe ice cream creates a delightful hot-and-cold contrast. It's soft, delicious, and truly amazing! 😋 🍳 More Than Just a Dessert Shop We arrived right when they opened at 11 AM and had lunch directly here. The café offers main dishes like Omurice and fresh pasta made with local Hokkaido ingredients, making it perfect for families. After lunch, you can order a pancake for dessert—it absolutely makes for a complete meal. 🥐 Remember to Check Out the Shop Next Door Right next to the café is a LeTAO shop, where you can buy freshly baked bread on the spot and pick out some LeTAO souvenirs. 🚗 📍 Doremo LeTAO 6-1-1 Asahicho, Chitose, Hokkaido 🛍 SHOP: 10:00–17:00 ☕ CAFÉ: 11:00–17:00 (L.O. 16:30) Travel IndependentTravel RoadTrip FamilyTrip Food Cafe Dessert Cafe Pancake

New Chitose Airport is more than just a "gateway" to Hokkaido travel. I felt its greatest appeal was that you can enjoy the essence of Hokkaido from the moment you arrive and fully enjoy your trip right up until you leave. 😊 ① 🦀 A Gathering of Hokkaido's Best Cuisine · A wide variety of seafood bowls, sushi, ramen, and Jingisukan (grilled lamb) are available. · Enjoy your "last meal in Hokkaido" at the airport. · Many popular restaurants, allowing you to choose as you stroll around and sample different dishes. ② 🍰 A Treasure Trove of Hokkaido Sweets · A full lineup of Hokkaido's leading brands, including Shiroi Koibito, ROYCE', LeTAO, Rokkatei, and Ryūgetsu. · Airport-exclusive items are also available, making souvenir shopping fun. · You might end up buying too much before departure! ③ 🛍️ Souvenir Shopping is Simply Fun · A wide variety of items, from classic sweets to seafood, cheese, wine, and Hokkaido-exclusive products. · No worries if you "forgot to buy something!" · Just searching for souvenirs is enjoyable enough. ④ ♨️ There's a "hot spring" inside the airport! · Relax and unwind from your travels at the New Chitose Airport Onsen (hot spring). · A rare airport where you can enjoy a hot spring bath before or after your flight. · Meals and rest facilities are also available, making it especially recommended for travelers with ample time. ⑤ 🎬 There's even a movie theater inside the airport! · New Chitose Airport has a theater, so you can use your time before your flight to watch a movie. · You won't feel like you have too much time on your hands at the airport. ⑥ 🧀 Experience the essence of Hokkaido. · There are facilities where you can tour the manufacturing process, such as the Royce' chocolate factory, within the airport. · Enjoyable for both children and adults. · Enjoy not only eating and shopping, but also "seeing and experiencing." ⑦ ☕ Take a break in the lounge before departure. · There are card lounges and other facilities where you can relax before boarding. · Wi-Fi and power outlets are available, making it convenient to take a break at the end of your trip. ⑧ 🚃 Excellent access from Sapporo. · JR New Chitose Airport Station is directly connected to the domestic terminal. · You can travel from Sapporo Station by Rapid Airport train. · It's easy to create an itinerary that includes "enjoying the airport at the end of your Sapporo sightseeing." ⑨ ⏰ Arriving at the airport early isn't a hassle. · At a normal airport, you might wonder, "What should I do until boarding?" · At New Chitose Airport, you can spend your time eating, shopping, going to hot springs, watching movies, or enjoying sweets. · Rather, it makes you want to stay at the airport a little longer. 🌟 What's the biggest attraction from a tourist's perspective? It's not just "an airport you go to to catch a flight," but "a place to have fun one last time at the end of your Hokkaido trip." I think this is the greatest appeal of New Chitose Airport.

If you're arriving in Hokkaido on a late flight, or catching an early one the next day, I highly recommend staying at the hotel located on the 4th floor of the New Chitose Airport domestic terminal. You won't have to drag your luggage around to catch a ride—you can just walk straight to check-in, making your trip a breeze right from day one. This time, I stayed in a double room. The space was surprisingly more spacious and comfortable than I expected. Even with two large suitcases laid open at the same time, it didn't feel cramped at all. The room was clean and bright overall, and the bed was cozy, perfect for a good night's rest. The part I looked forward to the most after checking in was relaxing at the hot spring facility, which is also located on the 4th floor of the domestic terminal. It's fully equipped with natural hot springs, open-air baths, saunas, massage services, and a relaxation lounge. Taking a soak before heading back to the room to sleep truly washes away all the travel fatigue. The best part is that New Chitose Airport is more than just an airport; it's almost like a mini shopping mall. It features a wide variety of Hokkaido souvenir shops, including popular brands like Shiroi Koibito, Royce', LeTAO, Rokkatei, and Kitakaro. You can get practically everything here in one go without having to make a special trip downtown. The dining options are also fantastic, ranging from Hokkaido ramen, Genghis Khan (grilled mutton), sushi, and seafood rice bowls to soup curry, desserts, and cafes. It's super convenient, whether you want to grab a bite right after arriving or savor the local cuisine one last time before leaving Hokkaido. If you're planning a trip to Hokkaido, consider booking the New Chitose Airport hotel for your first or last night. It's the perfect way to give your journey the most comfortable and relaxing start or finish.

This is an artistic festival of ice and light held at Lake Shikotsu in Chitose City, Hokkaido! It's only a 1-hour trip from New Chitose Airport, making it the perfect stop for the first day of your winter Hokkaido getaway! ✨ The festival grounds feature ice sculptures, ice caves, and even an ice cafe! Grab some hot soup or coffee at the cafe to take the edge off the cold ☕️ There’s also a bonfire area where you can roast marshmallows 🥰 The night illuminations start at 4:30 PM, but it’s definitely way more stunning once it gets pitch dark! Just a heads-up: if you stay until the festival closes at 8:00 PM, you might miss the last bus back. I highly recommend staying overnight so you can enjoy the event without worrying about the time. Afterward, you can warm your chilled body in the relaxing hot springs of Lake Shikotsu ♨️ 📍 Location: Shikotsuko Onsen Bangaichi, Chitose, Hokkaido 🕐 Hours: 10:00 AM - 8:00 PM 🏃 Getting There: Buses run from New Chitose Airport. You can choose between a reservation-only bus (2,000 yen one-way) and a regular bus (1,260 yen one-way). If you opt for the reservation-only bus, make sure to book well in advance. For the regular bus, I highly recommend lining up at the bus stop an hour early to guarantee a seat. (It gets super crowded this time of year, so it's not uncommon to miss your preferred bus and have to wait for the next one!) ✍️ Tips: You can buy advance tickets online for 1,000 yen. Getting them ahead of time means you can skip the entrance line on the day of your visit. For winter gear, a scarf and gloves are essential, but earmuffs will also really help keep the chill at bay. It's incredibly freezing out there, so come fully geared up! 🔥

When people visit Hokkaido, many head straight to Otaru, Furano, or Niseko. But one place that truly surprised me was Lake Shikotsu (支笏湖). Known as one of Japan's clearest lakes, Lake Shikotsu is surrounded by mountains, untouched forests, and incredibly transparent blue water. The peaceful atmosphere made it feel like a hidden escape away from the crowds. It wasn't just another lake—it became one of my favorite memories in Hokkaido. ✨ My Experience The moment I arrived, I couldn't believe how clear the water was. Standing by the lakeshore, I could easily see the rocks beneath the surface. The water reflected the surrounding mountains like a giant mirror, creating one of the most peaceful landscapes I've ever experienced. Unlike many popular tourist spots, Lake Shikotsu felt wonderfully quiet. I spent most of my time simply walking along the shoreline, taking in the fresh mountain air and listening to the gentle sound of the waves. One of my favorite moments was sitting by the lake with a hot drink while watching the changing colors of the mountains. There wasn't much to do—and honestly, that's exactly what made it so special. Sometimes, slowing down is the best part of traveling. 📍 Things You Shouldn't Miss 🚤 Take a sightseeing boat or clear-bottom boat to experience the lake's incredible transparency. 🏞️ Walk along the lakeside promenade and enjoy the peaceful scenery. 📸 Capture the stunning reflections on calm days. ♨️ Relax in a lakeside onsen with beautiful mountain views. 🍦 Try Hokkaido ice cream or local cafés near the lake. 🌅 Stay until sunset if possible—the lake becomes even more magical as the sky changes color. 💡 Travel Tips · Visit in every season—spring offers fresh greenery, summer is perfect for outdoor activities, autumn brings colorful foliage, and winter transforms the lake into a snowy wonderland. · If you're driving from New Chitose Airport, Lake Shikotsu is only about an hour away, making it an excellent first or last stop in Hokkaido. · Wear comfortable shoes if you plan to explore the walking trails around the lake. · Check the weather before visiting. On calm days, the reflections on the lake are absolutely spectacular. ❤️ Final Thoughts Lake Shikotsu may not be the loudest destination in Hokkaido, but it's one of the most peaceful. It reminded me that travel isn't always about chasing famous attractions. Sometimes, the best moments come from sitting quietly beside crystal-clear water and appreciating the beauty around you. If you're looking for a place to slow down, breathe deeply, and experience another side of Hokkaido, Lake Shikotsu deserves a spot on your itinerary. I would return in a heartbeat. 📍 Lake Shikotsu (Shikotsu-ko), Hokkaido, Japan 🇯🇵 #LakeShikotsu #Shikotsuko #Hokkaido #JapanTravel #VisitJapan #NatureLovers #HiddenGem #ScenicJapan #LakeView #HokkaidoTrip #TravelPhotography #MyTravelStory #BucketList #TripMoments #ExploreJapan

I visited "cafe SKY LIBRARY" located in the international area of New Chitose Airport using my Priority Pass. Situated on the 4th floor of Portom International, slightly away from the hustle and bustle of the domestic area, stepping inside reveals a sophisticated space and attentive service. It offers a relaxing experience that makes you forget you're even in the middle of a trip. The food menu apparently changes every month, and this time, I had the quiche plate. Not only the main quiche, but you could also feel the careful attention to detail in the accompanying salad and deli sides, making everything incredibly delicious with no compromises. Beautifully presented, it was a highly satisfying plate from start to finish. Wine is all-you-can-drink, and you get one free can of beer, with additional cans available for a fee. It makes you forget the typical pre-departure rush, offering a truly special and relaxing time. It's also open to the public as a regular cafe, and menus such as burger and pasta plates are available. It was a luxurious space where you could enjoy your meal and coffee at a leisurely pace. If you have a Priority Pass, I highly recommend visiting this lounge cafe. 📍4F International Passenger Terminal Building, New Chitose Airport, 　　Bibi, Chitose City, Hokkaido 066-0012 　　Inside Portom International Hokkaido 🕑11:00 AM - 9:00 PM Since business hours have recently been extended, be sure to check for updates. 　Please also confirm the final check-in time.

At "Butter no Itoko" in New Chitose Airport, I had the Premium Milk. With just one bite, the crispy dough reveals a gentle sweetness reminiscent of nostalgic milk crackers, with a generous filling of rich and deep buttermilk cream sandwiched in between. The combination of a light texture and rich flavor is exquisite; I was amazed by this unprecedented treat. Because it has an elegant, not-too-sweet taste, you can enjoy every last bite without getting tired of it. It looks adorable too, making it great for souvenirs, or as a perfect treat for yourself. If you're looking for a popular sweet at New Chitose Airport, this is definitely a must-try item. It is a delicious dessert that will make your memories of traveling in Hokkaido even more special. 📍 Bibi, Chitose, Hokkaido 066-0012, Domestic 　　　Passenger Terminal 2F, New Chitose Airport

Located just a short detour from Lake Shikotsu, "Shichijo Otaki" (Shichijo Great Falls) is a best-kept secret. It takes about a 30-minute walk from the parking lot to the waterfall. Trekking down a forest path and descending a steep flight of stairs at the very end, this scenic spot offers a true sense of adventure. What awaits you is a magnificent waterfall plunging 15 to 16 meters. The most incredible part? You can actually walk right behind the cascading water! Plus, since the waterfall basin is relatively shallow, you can step into the water and feel the falls up close. Looking up at the cascading water, surrounded by its roaring sound and refreshing spray, is absolutely breathtaking—a special experience that makes you feel completely immersed in the great outdoors. The lush scenery, framed by moss-covered rocks and trees, is stunning and perfectly preserves the untouched wilderness unique to Hokkaido. While there are many beautiful spots around Lake Shikotsu, this place is off the beaten path. I barely saw anyone else when I visited. The peaceful solitude and the sheer power of the falls—a reward only for those who make the 30-minute trek—are truly unforgettable. ⚠️ · The final staircase is steep and can be slippery, so comfortable walking shoes are a must. · You'll be in brown bear territory, so please come prepared with bear bells or other deterrents. Shichijo Otaki is also famous for its stunning ice falls in the winter. I have yet to visit during the colder months, but I’d love to see its magical winter wonderland someday. Since it’s an untouched hidden gem, there are no facilities like restrooms or vending machines. I highly recommend bringing your own drinks before heading out. 📍 Shichijo Otaki (Chitose City, Hokkaido / Near Lake Shikotsu)

Hokkaido's gateway, New Chitose Airport, is an absolute foodie paradise! Today, I'm sharing 3 highly recommended spots that blew my mind, complete with honest reviews and pro tips👇 1️⃣ Sapporo Agricultural College (Sapporo Nougakko) Famous for their super popular "Freshly Baked Hokkaido Apple Pie" and "Soufflé." Honest Review: The soufflé I was aiming for was so popular that it sold out before I could get one...! But here's the secret: **if you're buying "anything other than the soufflé," you can hop into a different line and check out immediately.** I grabbed the apple pie this time, and it was out of this world! The flaky crust and melt-in-your-mouth apples were perfection. Even if you miss out on the soufflé, jumping into the other line is totally worth it! 2️⃣ Ebisoba Ichigen An incredibly famous ramen joint at New Chitose Airport that almost always has a massive line. Honest Review: I gave up in the morning because it was packed, but when I tried again around 4 PM, I was only 7th in line and got right in! This is definitely the sweet spot for timing. From the first bite to the last sip, the broth and noodles are packed with a rich, savory shrimp flavor. It's pure bliss for seafood lovers...🦐 (*Sadly, their super popular rice balls sold out just two groups ahead of me. If you want one, get there early!) 3️⃣ Kantaro A conveyor belt sushi spot offering high-quality Hokkaido seafood without the fuss. Honest Review: The absolute must-order here is the "Scallop" (Hotate)! At about 700 JPY a plate, it might seem a bit pricey, but one bite and you'll get it. It’s thick, incredibly sweet, and easily worth more than you pay! Also, the "Kaiho Kobore-maki" (overflowing seafood roll) is an unbeatable bang for your buck!! 💡 Pro Tip for Time-Savers: If you're getting takeout or ordering individual pieces, you can actually skip the line to order and pay. If you're thinking, "I don't have much time before my flight, but I NEED some good sushi," you have to try this hack! Make sure to keep these spots in mind for your next trip to New Chitose Airport!

If you're planning to travel or have just landed and are craving some satisfying comfort food, you definitely need to check out the "HOKKAIDO FOOD HALL" at New Chitose Airport (CTS) in Hokkaido, Japan! ✈️🇯🇵 This zone is conveniently located on the 3rd floor of the Domestic Terminal. It's a food court-style hub that brings all the authentic flavors from Japan's northernmost island into one place. The atmosphere is warm, inviting, and a great spot to sit and relax. 🥰 🌟 Stepping into the entrance hall, you'll be spoiled for choice! It houses a wide variety of amazing eateries, including: Piping hot "Hokkaido Ramen" with perfectly chewy noodles, "Overflowing Sashimi Bowls/Donburi" packed with fresh salmon and juicy cod roe, and "Standing Sushi" for those on the go who still want to enjoy top-tier fresh ingredients. You'll also find the incredibly fragrant and mouth-watering Obihiro grilled pork rice bowls. The entrance and overall structure feature dark-toned woodwork, accented by large, modern Japanese neon signs that still capture the classic charm of a local fish market. The exterior wooden flooring is spotlessly clean. 🏮🪵 This food hall is super accessible and constantly bustling with travelers and visitors. With clear menus and a store layout map right at the front, it's the perfect spot to grab a quick, energizing bite or to take your time savoring the deliciousness before embarking on your next adventure.

I recently stayed at the Best Western Plus Hotel Fino Chitose in Chitose, Hokkaido. Boasting easy access from New Chitose Airport, it’s an incredibly versatile hotel—perfect for staying the night before or after a flight, or as a home base for exploring the Chitose area. Here’s a look at what makes this hotel so appealing based on my stay. The first thing that struck me upon arrival was the pristine exterior. The overall modern design felt brand new, blending the typical functionality of a business hotel with a slightly upscale vibe. Another major plus is the location; with plenty of restaurants and convenience stores nearby, you’ll never have to worry about dining or shopping. The front desk area was bright and spotless, and the staff were polite and accommodating. Check-in was a breeze, allowing me to head straight to my room without letting travel fatigue set in. Down in the lobby, they offer a self-service amenity station where you can grab essentials like toothbrushes and tea bags. This eco-friendly approach is becoming more common these days, but I found it to be practical, efficient, and left a great impression. Stepping into the room, I immediately noticed how cleverly the space was utilized. While not overly spacious, the layout felt open and uncluttered, making for a very comfortable stay. The bed area was impeccably clean and well-made, with comfortable sheets and pillows. It provided the perfect environment to recharge after a long journey. A decent-sized desk area is also provided, which is super handy if you need to catch up on some work or plan out your next day's itinerary. The Wi-Fi connection was solid, handling video streaming and general browsing without a hitch. It strikes me as an excellent choice for business travelers as well. Though it’s a typical unit bath, the bathroom was kept exceptionally clean. There were no signs of wear or unpleasant odors you sometimes find in older plumbing, and the housekeeping was top-notch. The shower had great water pressure, and the temperature remained consistent, making for a pleasant shower experience. These little details really make or break a hotel stay, so this was a huge win in my book. Looking out the window, I was treated to the peaceful, quintessential cityscape of Chitose— a view that really built up the anticipation for my Hokkaido trip. Unlike bustling city center hotels, it has a quiet, relaxing atmosphere, ensuring a peaceful night. The soundproofing seemed quite reliable too, and I barely noticed any outside noise. All in all, it’s a remarkably well-rounded hotel that caters perfectly to airport transit passengers, tourists, and business travelers alike. The rates are fairly reasonable, and when you factor in the amenities, cleanliness, and location, it offers fantastic value for money. For anyone looking for a hotel near New Chitose Airport, or needing a one-night stay before or after heading into Sapporo, I highly recommend this hotel. It hits the sweet spot between comfort and convenience, and I’d definitely stay here again the next time I'm in Chitose.

If you're looking to enjoy delicious Genghis Khan (Japanese grilled mutton) in the Chitose area of Hokkaido, "Chitose Lamb Kobo Yamajin" comes highly recommended. The restaurant has a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere, and it feels loved by both tourists and locals alike. Its biggest draw is the chance to truly savor authentic Hokkaido ingredients. Their signature lamb is incredibly tender and mild, without the strong gamey flavor often associated with the meat. Even if you're not usually a fan of lamb, you'll likely find it very approachable. Once grilled, the rich umami of the fat really shines through, making it a perfect match for both rice and drinks. The accompanying vegetables are perfectly fresh, soaking up the savory lamb juices to become even more flavorful. It's a simple dish, but the high quality of the ingredients speaks for itself. An added delight is their seafood menu. You can enjoy incredibly fresh sashimi, a true Hokkaido specialty, making the dining experience far more satisfying than you might expect from a restaurant specializing in Genghis Khan. Being able to experience the full charm of Hokkaido's cuisine—not just the meat—all in one place is a major plus. They also offer a great selection of sake that pairs wonderfully with the food. The rich flavor of the lamb combined with Japanese sake might seem unexpected, but it works surprisingly well. If you enjoy a good drink, this is a pairing you absolutely have to try. Overall, the prices are quite reasonable, making it a budget-friendly option for travelers. Located in the Chitose area with relatively easy access from the airport, it's the perfect spot for a meal on the first or last day of your Hokkaido trip. It's a highly satisfying restaurant where you can fully enjoy authentic Hokkaido Genghis Khan, fresh seafood, and great drinks. If you're looking for a place to eat around Chitose, this is definitely one I'd recommend.

This hotel boasts an unbeatable location right outside the South Gate of JR Chitose Station. I chose it primarily for convenience since I only planned to sleep there, but it was way more comfortable than expected—I was so satisfied! 😊 🌟 Recommended Highlights 🌟 🚶 Just a 30-Second Walk from the Station It's right outside the ticket gate, making it super easy to get around even with large luggage! 🛏️ Custom Pillow Bar There's a "Pillow Bar" by the front desk where you can pick your favorite pillow, ensuring a great night's sleep tailored just for you. ♨️ Large Public Bath Available It's not overly huge, but being able to stretch your legs and soak in a bath while traveling is always a treat! ♪ ☕ Free Lounge Access You also have access to a lounge where you can enjoy complimentary coffee and tea. It's open until 1:00 AM and starts again at 5:00 AM, making it incredibly convenient for early flights or late-night arrivals. 📚 Library Corner Stocked with magazines and manga, it's perfect for anyone wanting to relax and unwind. There are also window seats with power outlets, which looked great for getting a little work done or remote working! 💻 It offers more than enough comfort for a stay at the start or end of your Hokkaido trip. With the convenience of direct station access, plus amenities like the public bath and lounge, it's highly recommended for anyone looking for great value! ✨ 📍 JR Inn Chitose 6-4-4 Suehiro, Chitose City, Hokkaido

This post is a bit long, but definitely worth saving....... For our trip to Sapporo, Hokkaido this time, we took a morning flight and arrived around noon. We figured we'd just hang around the domestic terminal before checking into our resort towards the evening! 　　 So, we made a beeline for the 2nd floor of the domestic terminal for some food and shopping!!! This floor is packed with famous stores, souvenir shops, and even a Uniqlo~ Let me recommend some must-buy and must-eat treats at New Chitose Airport!!😘 　　 Sapporo Agricultural College Chitose Airport Factory Store "Rich Freshly Baked Dairy Cheese Cake" Made with Hokkaido milk, and you can only buy it at New Chitose Airport! You'll need to line up for a while~~ Limited to one per person! (My teammate waited for 30 minutes while I took Sweet Potato Ball for a stroll) This is seriously delicious. It tastes like a soft, fluffy light cheesecake, so incredibly soft!! 　　 "Dairy Milk Soft Serve Ice Cream" It's incredibly rich~~~~ and it looks so chubby and cute!! 　　 "Apple Pie" Made with apples grown in Hokkaido, the crust is super crispy, and the filling is a custard made from Hokkaido milk and fresh cream!! Overall, it's amazing, especially when you eat it piping hot right after buying it!! 　　 "Dairy Milk Pudding" Made with Hokkaido milk and eggs. I found the milky flavor quite strong, and I personally loved it! Though my teammate thought it tasted more like panna cotta~~~ 　　 Calbee "Freshly Fried French Fries" and "Freshly Fried Potato Chips" were also things I was really looking forward to this time, I had their freshly fried fries in Harajuku, Tokyo before, and it was unforgettable, Brought Sweet Potato Ball here specifically to try them this time! As expected, they were incredibly crispy and fragrant~~😍 I chose the soy sauce-flavored potato chips, which are exclusive to the New Chitose Airport store. They were a bit on the salty side! A lot of people were buying the pizza-flavored ones too, I'll have to try those next time~ 　　 This is a famous fish paste shop from Otaru. The domestic terminal store has many flavors available, Almost everything you get is piping hot!!!👍 Every type is pretty tasty, so we just ordered whatever we felt like eating!!!! If it's your first time buying, I highly recommend these two options~~ "Pan Roll" uses fresh fish paste wrapped around minced meat, then coated in bread and deep-fried. It's crispy on the outside and soft on the inside "Hiraten", a classic traditional fried fish cake, has a chewy texture with a hint of natural sweetness from the fish 　　 Many people coming to New Chitose Airport will buy the corn bread from Biei Senshukai, but the line is seriously long!!! Plus, you have to buy five at a time, so we decisively gave up on it~ We found the "Tokachi Corn Bread" from Hanabatake Ranch to be really delicious too, It has a generous amount of filling that bursts in your mouth!!🌽 We also bought the "Hokkaido Red Bean Bread" which was quite nice too~~ Skipping the line makes it totally worth it!!! (Although I don't know how good the Biei Senshukai one actually is!!) Hanabatake Ranch is a famous sightseeing farm founded in Tokachi, Hokkaido by Japanese entertainer Yoshitake Tanaka. I heard their raw caramel is also excellent, I saw people behind me grabbing tons of it to check out~~😅 　　 A lot of people come to buy SNOW. They restock at 8 AM and 3 PM, In between those times, the shelves might be completely empty~~~ However, some surrounding stores might carry it, so you can walk around and check!! We didn't buy any this time because a friend bought some for us to eat before~~ 　　 There is another famous shop whose soft serve ice cream has won the New Chitose Airport popularity vote for 5 consecutive years. That one also had a huge line, so we skipped the airport branch! But we managed to eat it at their city branch, which I'll share about later~~~😎 　　 The 3rd floor of the domestic terminal is mostly restaurants, and we didn't eat there at all!!! Even though I originally wanted to have soup curry! Turns out we got full just from eating all the stuff above!!! Ahahaha🤣 But we did visit the Sanrio store and played the Ichiban Kuji!!! Sadly, didn't win the top prize😭! We also checked out Nanbangashi Hokkaido Milk Castella, and on our way back, we bought their honey castella to bring home!!! 　　 By the way, since our return flight was around noon, we bought bread and milk on the 2nd floor of the domestic terminal! MilkStand has a huge variety of milk, yogurt, etc., delivered directly from various Hokkaido farms, We just picked what we wanted to drink, and they were all so rich~~~~ 　　 Pasco Hokkaido Premium The bakery is right next to the milk stand. Their bread made with domestically produced Hokkaido wheat smells amazing~~~ I bought some raw toast (nama shokupan) and a few other pastries to bring back to Taiwan!! If you're flying on a budget airline, I highly recommend buying some to eat in the boarding area!!! Like the corn, ham, and cheese bread (you can't bring this back to Taiwan, though)! 　　 Then......... my biggest regret is missing the Baumkuchen from Kitakaro!!!!!! Because we didn't end up going to Kitakaro in the city this time, I figured they sold it on the 2nd floor of the domestic terminal, But then I suddenly thought maybe the duty-free shops in the international terminal would have it (actually, this idea came from my teammate!)!! So I decided to just buy it after passing through security!!! And surprise, surprise~~~ they didn't have it!!!! I'm crying!!😥 Meanwhile, he stocked up completely on "Rokkatei Marusei Butter Sandwiches" back in the domestic terminal~~~~~ What kind of move is that?🤬 　　 Does this mean we have to go back again?!!!!!! Alright..... that's all for now~~~~ Did I write too much?!!!😬 Finally, I want to mention that there are really very few shops inside the international terminal. If you're afraid you won't be able to find what you want inside, it's best to buy it outside. Inside, you can mostly just bulk buy things like Jaga Pokkuru, Rokkatei, Sapporo Agricultural College milk cookies, and Royce😂!
