Datong travel guide and discussion

You have to see the Buddha's smile in person. Caves 5 and 6 are the highlights and are super photogenic. ⛩️ Huayan Temple | An ancient Liao and Jin dynasty temple. The Boga Jiaocang Hall is stunning, and there are tons of free photo spots. 🏯 Datong Ancient City Wall | Climb the wall at dusk to watch the sunset🌇. The evening breeze is pleasant, and the night view with the lights is beautiful. 🍜 Local food list🥘 🍖 Sliced noodles | Chewy and flavorful, a must-order! 🥞 Glutinous millet cake | Soft, sticky, and sweet. It's delicious dipped in sugar. 🍲 Hunyuan jelly noodles | Refreshing and appetizing. A street snack you can't go wrong with. 🧈 Milk skin mooncakes | The top choice for souvenirs. ⚠️ Tips to avoid pitfalls📌 ✅ You must hire a guide for the Yungang Grottoes! Otherwise, you won't understand the history. ✅ Go to the Ancient City Wall in the evening to avoid the midday sun☀️. ✅ Don't buy souvenirs at high prices at the entrance of scenic spots; small shops in the city are more cost-effective. ✅ City attractions are close to each other, and taking a taxi is very convenient🚕. 💰 Budget reference Average cost of 500+ per person covers food, accommodation, and activities. Student-friendly👍 This low-key ancient capital hides the breathtaking romance of the Northern Wei Dynasty🌌 See the Great Buddha, visit ancient temples, eat big bowls of noodles, and slow down to feel the history. 💬 Do you want to come to Datong to see the Yungang Buddha? Let's talk about accommodation first. In September, staying inside the Datong Ancient City is the best way to save your legs. There are plenty of inns and smart hotels near Huayan Temple, Qingyuan Street, and Sipailou, so walking to Huayan Temple, Shanhua Temple, and the Nine Dragon Wall is easy. Honestly, if it's your first time, don't be tempted by cheap prices to stay too far away. Some apartments in new residential areas outside the ancient city look pretty in photos, but you'll suffer if you have to walk back without a car. Filter by the Ancient City/Huayan Temple tag on Trip.com. Budget guesthouses are about CNY 250–350 per night, comfortable inns are CNY 350–500, and upscale options like the Four Points by Sheraton are around CNY 500. If you're traveling solo and want photogenic spots, choose a courtyard inn. If you're a couple looking for a lazy vacation, pick one with a projector and a smart toilet. Avoid street-facing rooms, or the sound of tricycle horns at night will drive you crazy. When booking, check the ratings and also whether parking is included. If you're driving yourself, you'll quickly learn how frustrating it is to try and make a U-turn on the narrow roads inside the ancient city. 🍜 Don't just focus on viral restaurants for food. Start with knife-cut noodles. Small shops frequented by locals charge CNY 12–15 per bowl for pork sauce, and the noodles are so chewy they're like rubber bands. Dongfang Xiaomian is a reliable choice that won't disappoint. Hunyuan jelly noodles are sour, spicy, and refreshing—perfect for the lingering summer heat or a cool autumn breeze—and a small bowl costs just a few yuan. Lamb offal soup with vermicelli is best in the morning, costing around CNY 20 with a fried dough cake. For lamb shaomai, the skin is thin and the filling is juicy. The "hundred-flower" shaomai at Fenglinge is a bit pricey at around CNY 68, so just try it for the ambiance; for everyday shaomai, local old shops are a better deal. Oat noodles, yellow rice cake, oil-fried pork, and the assorted copper hot pot are all worth ordering. Sea buckthorn juice is a great, non-greasy pairing for meat dishes. Restaurants in the ancient city are packed at noon. A simple trick is to eat before 11:00 AM or after 1:30 PM; otherwise, you'll suffer through lines and might end up regretting it. Save a few restaurants with ratings of 4.5+ on Trip.com, and when you arrive, check the ratio of locals—it's more reliable than looking at filtered photos. 📸 Follow my order of attractions to avoid pitfalls. Yungang Grottoes are open from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM in September. Adult tickets are CNY 120. Don't sleep in; the morning light on the Great Buddha is perfect for photos. Joining an official guided tour for CNY 168 saves you from the awkwardness of wondering "which Buddha is this?" Huayan Temple is CNY 50. You must see the Liao Dynasty sculptures and the "clasping hands, smiling" Bodhisattva in the Huayan Sutra Hall. The Main Hall is unbelievably massive. Check on-site for tower climbing. Shanhua Temple is CNY 40 during the peak season in September; the Liao-Jin architectural complex is quiet and uncrowded, making it more comfortable to stroll through with friends. The Nine Dragon Wall is CNY 10, open from 8:30 AM to 6:00 PM. Just snap a couple of photos when you pass by; don't expect too much, as it's just a wall. The ancient city wall is free with a reservation. Go for a walk or ride a bike in the evening; the "blue hour" from the South Gate to the watchtower is stunning. The Hanging Temple is in Hunyuan. Admission is CNY 15, and climbing it requires a separate, limited ticket. If you don't book in advance, you'll likely be disappointed on-site. If you're afraid of heights, wearing a skirt, or carrying large luggage, I don't recommend forcing it. Just taking a photo of the cliffside building from afar is worth the trip. Hengshan Mountain tickets are CNY 45. If you're short on time, choose one or the other. Don't cram Yungang + Hanging Temple + Hengshan into one day, or your legs won't be yours when you get back. 🌤 September tips, in plain English. In autumn, Datong can reach over 20 degrees during the day, but temperatures often drop to single digits in the morning and evening. Layering is the safest bet: short sleeves + thin sweatshirt + windbreaker. Don't wear dress shoes to climb the Hanging Temple; the walkways are so narrow you'll question your life choices. The UV rays are strong, so keep a hat and sunscreen with you, or your makeup will melt off. There are occasional showers in September, so keep a folding umbrella in your bag. Don't be like me and skip the forecast—I was once caught halfway across the city wall with my hair ruined by the wind. The Yungang scenic area is large, so bring your own water and a power bank. There's a lot of walking in the ancient city, so prioritize soft-soled shoes. For transportation, a taxi from Datong South High-Speed Railway Station to the ancient city starts at around CNY 10. Public buses are fine for city attractions, but for the Hanging Temple and Hengshan Mountain in the suburbs, chartering a car or taking a direct shuttle is more convenient. Book legitimate vehicles on Trip.com and don't trust people soliciting rides on the side of the road. Buy all tickets through official channels in advance. Don't touch scalper tickets or cheap package deals; it's a real nightmare if you get to the gate and can't get in. A 3-day trip is relaxed, and 4 days is even better. The budget isn't crazy: tickets are over CNY 300, mid-range accommodation for two days is about CNY 700, and you can eat happily for CNY 80–120 per person per meal.

To be honest, before I went, I thought it was just another generic replica complex. But once I walked through the gate, I was completely blown away—the Nine-Dragon Wall is even bigger and older than the one in the Forbidden City! 🐉 Even better—it's currently free to enter! And it's so uncrowded that you can take photos without anyone in the background—no need to Photoshop out strangers! It's a photographer's paradise! 📸 🌟 3 reasons you must visit (you'll want to book your trip after reading) 1️⃣ A "living fossil of a Ming Dynasty prince's mansion" that predates the Forbidden City 🏯 Prince Dai's Mansion was built in 1392 (the 25th year of the Hongwu reign of the Ming Dynasty), 28 years earlier than the Forbidden City (1420)! Although the original structure was destroyed at the end of the Ming Dynasty, it was rebuilt in 2011 according to its original appearance, perfectly restoring the regulations and grandeur of a Ming Dynasty prince's mansion. Walking inside, you really feel like you've traveled back to the Ming Dynasty to be a prince! 2️⃣ Home to the "Number One Dragon Wall in the World" 🐉 The Nine-Dragon Wall in front of Prince Dai's Mansion is the largest and oldest existing Nine-Dragon Wall in China, 350 years older than the one in Beijing's Beihai Park! The nine dragons on the wall are lifelike, shimmering in the sunlight—perfect for photos! 3️⃣ Currently free! So uncrowded it feels like you have the place to yourself! 🆓 Because it just opened, many people don't know about it yet. Even on weekends, there are only a few people around, so you can take photos however you want without worrying about crowds in the background. Once it gets popular, you'll probably have to queue for tickets! 📍 The ultimate guide! Follow this for a stress-free trip 🚗 How to get there? Address: Heyang Street, Pingcheng District, Datong (inside the ancient city) Bus: Take bus 27, 38, or 59 and get off at "Nine-Dragon Wall" station Driving: Navigate to "Prince Dai's Mansion." There is a parking lot nearby (it's recommended to park outside the ancient city and walk in) High-speed rail: 15-minute taxi ride from Datong South Station, about CNY 15 🎫 Ticket information Current policy: Free! Free! Free! (Reservation required via the "Datong Prince Dai's Mansion" WeChat official account) Opening hours: 9:00 AM–5:00 PM (last entry at 4:30 PM) Recommended visit duration: 2–3 hours Best time for photos: 3:00 PM–5:00 PM (the light is angled, making the architecture look more three-dimensional) 🗺️ My tour route (tried and tested, easy version) Stop 1: Nine-Dragon Wall (30 mins) 🐉 The first thing you see when you enter! It's 45.5 meters long and 8 meters high, even bigger than the one in the Forbidden City Photo spot: Stand right in the middle in front of the wall and use a wide-angle lens for a panoramic shot; or take close-ups of the dragon claws and scales—it's stunning Fun fact: There are 9 dragons on the wall, but if you look closely, each one has a different pose! Stop 2: Yumen (15 mins) 🚪 The main gate of Prince Dai's Mansion, with five bays, it's magnificent Photo spot: Stand below the steps outside the gate and shoot upwards to capture the feeling of a "prince returning home" Stop 3: Duanlimen (20 mins) 🏛️ The second gate, more exquisite than Yumen, with a Xieshan-style roof and beautiful painted decorations Photo spot: Stand inside the gate and shoot outwards for a framed composition—it's amazing Stop 4: Chengyundian (40 mins) 👑 The main hall of Prince Dai's Mansion, equivalent to the Hall of Supreme Harmony in the Forbidden City Inside, there is a restored exhibition of the Ming Dynasty prince's mansion, where you can see the prince's throne, screens, and more Photo spot: Stand in the middle of the square in front of the hall and use a symmetrical composition to capture the "royal style" Stop 5: Chongxinmen (15 mins) 🚪 The gate leading to the rear quarters, featuring "Xuanzi-style" paintings that are even more exquisite than those in the Forbidden City Stop 6: Rear Quarters (30 mins) 🛏️ Includes the prince and princess's sleeping quarters, gardens, etc. Highlights: The garden has rockeries, pavilions, and towers, perfect for traditional-style portraits Photo spot: Shoot outwards from inside a pavilion, or stand on the rockery and shoot downwards Stop 7: Side Halls (20 mins) 🖼️ Now used as an exhibition hall, showcasing Datong's history, culture, and archaeological discoveries from Prince Dai's Mansion Must-see: Unearthed Ming Dynasty porcelain, roof tiles, and architectural components 💡 Hard-learned lessons! Don't fall into these traps ❌ Don't wear high heels! It's all stone paths and steps, your feet will be ruined after a day ❌ Don't go at noon! The sun is direct, and photos will be full of shadows; after 3:00 PM is best ❌ Don't miss the details of the Nine-Dragon Wall! The dragons on the wall have three poses: "ascending," "descending," and "walking." Look closely, it's very interesting ✅ You must bring a wide-angle lens! The architecture is too grand to fit in a phone camera ✅ Wear Hanfu! Prince Dai's Mansion and Hanfu are a perfect match; any photo will look like a blockbuster ✅ Book in advance! There is a daily limit, and it's often fully booked on weekends 🎁 Hidden gems! Local-only tips 1️⃣ Make a wish in front of the Nine-Dragon Wall 🙏 Locals say the Nine-Dragon Wall has spiritual energy. Stand in the middle in front of the wall, close your eyes, and make a wish—sincerity brings results. I wished to "get rich quick"—guess if it worked? 2️⃣ Find the "hidden dragons" 🐲 Besides the Nine-Dragon Wall, there are many dragon elements in Prince Dai's Mansion: the Chiwen roof ornaments, the coiled dragons on the pillars, the imperial road stone on the steps... It's said there are 9,999 dragons in total. How many can you find? 3️⃣ The "golden light through the wall" at dusk ✨ Around 4:30 PM, the setting sun shines from the west, hitting the Nine-Dragon Wall just right, turning the whole wall golden as if the dragons have come to life! This moment only lasts 15 minutes, so be sure to catch it! 💬 A few heartfelt words To be honest, before I went, I had some bias against "rebuilt ancient architecture," always thinking they were "fake antiques." But Prince Dai's Mansion really changed my mind—it's not some shoddy replica, but a masterpiece rebuilt strictly according to Ming Dynasty regulations using traditional craftsmanship. Here, I saw: The Nine-Dragon Wall, bigger than the one in the Forbidden City, so stunning I was speechless 🐉 Exquisite Ming Dynasty paintings, every stroke showing true craftsmanship 🎨 An empty square with only the sound of the wind and birds 🕊️ And I also saw myself: Standing in front of Chengyundian, imagining the scene of a prince holding court 600 years ago 🤴 Daydreaming in the garden, feeling the comfort of "stealing half a day of leisure" 🌸 Leaving, looking back one last time, thinking "I'll come back again" 👋 If you also love ancient architecture, and if you want to find a place to take photos and daydream in peace—come to Prince Dai's Mansion. While it's not famous yet, while it's still free. 📌 Save this guide and read it again before you go! 💬 Tell me in the comments: Which corner of Prince Dai's Mansion is your favorite? ❤️ Like + follow, I'll help you discover more niche treasures!

Take a 1-hour 40-minute high-speed train from Beijing 🚄 and you can see the incredibly stunning "Devil City" landscape. I was truly blown away!!! 📍Address: Datong, Shanxi · Datong Earth Forest (also known as Shibangou) 🚄Transportation: Take a high-speed train from Beijing North/Qinghe to Datong South Station, arriving in 1 hour 40 minutes! From there, it's a 40-minute taxi ride to the Earth Forest. If driving, it takes 3.5 hours from Beijing. 🎫Admission: 48 RMB, half price for students—much cheaper than an amusement park! ⏰Best time to visit: Arrive 1 hour before sunset! The lighting is gorgeous, with the golden-red Earth Forest and reflections. Every shot is a masterpiece 📸 ✨Why you have to come: 1️⃣ The only Earth Forest landscape in North China! Formed by tens of thousands of years of wind and rain erosion, the earth pillars take on all sorts of shapes—like castles, columns, and figures. Nature's craftsmanship is truly incredible 🤯 2️⃣ Sunset killer! The setting sun hits the earth walls, giving them a golden-red glow, and the reflections in the pools are as clear as a mirror. No editing needed; the raw photos are masterpieces! 3️⃣ Walking on the sandy paths with earth walls towering on both sides really gives you the illusion of traveling to the Northwest or even another planet 🌌 That sense of desolation is so addictive! 4️⃣ It's surprisingly uncrowded! No need to fight for photo spots; you can shoot however you want. A dream come true for introverts! 5️⃣ After exploring the Earth Forest, head to the Datong Ancient City! The night lights create such a great atmosphere, and it's free to wander around~ 6️⃣ Here's the main point! Datong food is amazing! Sliced noodles, shaomai (steamed dumplings), lamb offal soup, yellow rice cake, stir-fried pork... any roadside shop is delicious, and the prices are super affordable. Two people can eat until they're stuffed for just over 100 RMB. It's worth a trip just for the food! 🍜Must-eat list: ▫️ Sliced noodles: 7-8 RMB a bowl at old roadside shops. The sauce is incredibly fragrant. Add meatballs and dried tofu—it's amazing! ▫️ Lamb shaomai: 20+ RMB per basket. Thin skin, generous filling, so fresh it'll blow your mind! ▫️ Lamb offal soup with beizi (baked flatbread): Have a bowl in the morning—warm and super satisfying! ▫️ Yellow rice cake: Chewy and dipped in white sugar—refreshing and addictive! 💡Practical tips: ▫️ There's no shade in the Earth Forest, so be sure to protect yourself from the sun! Bring a hat and sunglasses 🕶️ ▫️ Wear comfortable shoes; the sandy paths are tricky to walk on. ▫️ Definitely go before sunset! The daytime light is too harsh, and photos will look plain. ▫️ 1-2 hours is enough to explore the Earth Forest; save the rest of your time for the ancient city and food. ▫️ Datong is super cool in the summer; bring a light jacket for mornings and evenings. ▫️ Don't climb on the earth pillars! They are formed by weathering and are very fragile. Let's protect our natural landscapes 🙏 Datong is truly underrated! What other hidden gems are there around Beijing? Let me know in the comments~

When visiting Xinrong, Datong, don't just stick to the ancient city! Hidden at the foot of the Great Wall, Deshengpu may look like ordinary, crumbling earthen walls, but it is actually the most storied, thousand-year-old frontier secret in northern Shanxi. There are no commercialized, faux-ancient buildings here—it's quiet, uncrowded, free, and authentic, with every inch of the earthen walls etched with the real history of the Ming Dynasty frontier. Deshengpu is located in Baoziwan Township, Xinrong District, Datong, over 40 kilometers from the city center. It was a core pass of the Datong Garrison of the Ming Great Wall and a vital thoroughfare connecting Shanxi and Inner Mongolia. The ancient fort was built in the 18th year of the Jiajing reign of the Ming Dynasty (1539) and was originally named "Suilu Fort." As the name suggests, it was built to resist frontier warfare and defend the territory. It is not an isolated castle but part of a "one pass, three forts" defense system consisting of Deshengpu, Zhenqiangpu, and Sichengpu. Together with a continuous line of beacon towers, it formed the most solid frontier defense barrier of the Ming Dynasty. Hundreds of years ago, this was a battlefield of clashing swords and galloping horses, guarded by heavy troops year-round, with smoke signals rising everywhere. What truly made Deshengpu go down in history and changed the fate of the frontier was the legendary Longqing Peace Treaty✨. The whole affair was incredibly dramatic, stemming from an ordinary family conflict. Altan Khan's grandson, Bahannaji, had his marriage forcibly broken up by his grandfather. Feeling aggrieved, he flew into a rage and defected to the Ming Dynasty with his subordinates. Upon hearing the news, Altan Khan was furious and led a large army to the Great Wall border, instantly creating a tense situation at the frontier. At this critical moment, capable Ming officials Wang Chonggu and Fang Fengshi showed great foresight. They withstood pressure from the imperial court, treated the defecting youth well, and proactively extended an olive branch of peace. With the full support of Zhang Juzheng, the two sides reached a reconciliation. In 1571, a grand investiture ceremony was held at Deshengpu, where the Ming Dynasty enfeoffed Altan Khan as Prince Shunyi and officially opened the Deshengkou trade market. The battlefield where swords once clashed transformed overnight into a bustling frontier market. Tea, cloth, and grain from the Central Plains were continuously transported to the grasslands, while cattle, sheep, furs, and horses from the grasslands were traded here. Camel caravans arrived in an endless stream, and the sound of camel bells never ceased, creating the frontier spectacle of "Gold Desheng, Silver Zhuma" and bringing over 40 years of lasting peace to the Great Wall line. This hard-won peace also owes much to a legendary woman—Sanniangzi💛. After Altan Khan passed away, the situation on the grasslands became turbulent, and many wanted to restart the war. Sanniangzi overcame all opposition, upheld the peace treaty, and diligently protected the trade market. She was enfeoffed by the Ming Dynasty as Lady Zhongshun, spending her life safeguarding the stable life of the frontier people. Today, as time has passed and the bustle has faded, only the mottled, thick rammed-earth walls of Deshengpu remain. Standing atop the ancient fort, facing the northern frontier wind and looking out at the rolling Great Wall, one can almost still see the smoke and camel caravans of the past. The crumbling walls are silent, yet they have witnessed both the ravages of war and ethnic harmony, hiding the most moving epic of the frontier.

🚌【Transportation Guide】 If you're coming to Datong in September, honestly, taking the high-speed train to Datong South Station is the easiest way. The tourist shuttle bus parking lot is 50 meters west of the exit. Direct buses to Yungang Grottoes run every 20 minutes, cost only CNY 10 one way, and get you there in 40 minutes. The return trip also stops at the Ancient City and Datong Museum—a dream for lazy travelers 🎉. Coming from Datong Station isn't too bad either; you can take bus line 4 and transfer to line 3 to get to Yungang, though it takes longer. If you're in a rush, I wouldn't recommend this hassle. If you want to visit the Hanging Temple, take my advice: the straight-line distance from Yungang to the Hanging Temple isn't far, but taking public transport will take nearly 4 hours, which is really painful 😅. Just buy tickets on the "Datong Tourist Shuttle" mini-program. It's CNY 39/person from Yungang to the Hanging Temple. Grab a window seat on the right side to get a panoramic view of the Hanging Temple—book fast before they're gone. 🎫【Ticket Reservation】 Yungang Grottoes admission is CNY 120 (peak season price), CNY 60 for students, and free for those 60 and older. You must make a real-name reservation in advance via Trip.com or the "Yungang Grottoes Culture and Tourism" mini-program; tickets are usually not sold on the day of. Open from 7:30 AM–6:00 PM. I recommend getting there before 8:00 AM, or once the tour groups arrive, your experience seeing the open-air Buddha at Cave 20 will be ruined 💔. Hanging Temple climbing tickets are CNY 100 + CNY 15 for park admission. Climbing tickets are limited, so be sure to book in advance, or you'll only be able to view it from afar, which is truly frustrating. Huayan Temple is CNY 50, Shanhuasi Temple is free but requires a reservation, and the Ancient City Wall and Datong Museum also require free reservations for entry. 🍜【Local Food Recommendations】 You won't know what "carb heaven" is until you get to Datong. These are the spots I've personally tested and can recommend 👇 🥢 Xijindao Sliced Noodles: Meat sauce with braised tofu combo—one bite and your soul is restored 🥟 Longjuxiang Shaomai: Paper-thin wrappers, lamb filling that bursts with juice 🍯 Zini 369 Coarse Grains: Chilled yellow rice cake with osmanthus honey—sweet but not cloying 🌶️ Xiaoxifu Jelly Noodles: Served with fried chili—absolutely amazing 🍖 Panglailai Rabbit Head: Pair with Datong beer—spicy and addictive 🍲 Kaige Restaurant: Copper hot pot + oil-fried meat + sea buckthorn juice—understand Datong cuisine in one meal 📸【Photo Spots】 In front of the open-air Buddha at Cave 20 of the Yungang Grottoes, get close and use a wide-angle lens to capture both the Buddha's face and the mountain—it's incredibly stunning 📷 Shoot at the Lingyan Temple reflection pool around 3:00 PM; the reflection in the water is breathtaking The light in front of the Mahavira Hall at Huayan Temple is softest after 4:00 PM. Wear Hanfu for photos and you'll feel like you've traveled back to the Liao and Jin dynasties Get on the wall at the South Gate of the Datong Ancient City Wall at 6:30 PM. Stand by the parapet with your back to the city at sunset for beautiful silhouettes For the night view of the Ancient City Wall, after the lights come on at 7:30 PM, use a long exposure to capture the reflection of the city gate and the moat—every shot is a masterpiece 🌃 🗺️【Detailed 3-Day Itinerary】 Day 1️⃣: Huayan Temple → Shanhuasi Temple → Cycling on the Ancient City Wall to watch the sunset → Late-night snacks on the Ancient Street. Enter Huayan Temple at 4:00 PM for the best light, then visit Shanhuasi Temple. Get on the wall at 6:30 PM to rent a bike, and get goosebumps the moment the lights turn on at 7:30 PM. Day 2️⃣: In-depth one-day tour of Yungang Grottoes. Rush in at 8:00 AM: Tanyao Square → Lingyan Temple → Cave 20 → walk back to Caves 5/6. Hire an official guide for CNY 168 (includes return battery car), otherwise you'll just be staring at rocks and won't know what you're looking at 😂. Head to the Lingyan Temple reflection pool at 3:00 PM for more photos. Day 3️⃣: Hanging Temple → Mount Heng (Northern Hengshan) → Departure. The shuttle bus leaves in the morning. Go to the Hanging Temple early to avoid crowds; climbing it is worth the trip. Take the cable car up Mount Heng to save energy, then take the shuttle bus back to the Ancient City after coming down. ⚠️【Tips to Avoid Pitfalls】 In September, Datong is over 20°C during the day, but only around 9°C in the morning and evening. You must bring a light jacket, or you'll know what suffering is once you stand on the city wall 🥶 Food inside the scenic areas is expensive and mediocre. Pack some water and snacks in your bag, don't be like me and regret it Shared e-bikes in the Ancient City are CNY 5 for 30 minutes—10,000 times more comfortable than walking Climbing tickets for the Hanging Temple are limited. If you don't book in advance, you can only view it from afar—I don't want you to experience that frustration Flash photography and drones are strictly prohibited inside Yungang. Don't break the rules on purpose I don't recommend wearing high heels to visit Yungang; the stone steps and uneven roads will make you question your life choices 👠❌ September is the most beautiful season in Datong—crisp autumn air and fewer crowds. Go before the National Day holiday. Booking hotels and tickets together on Trip.com is more cost-effective 💕

Drawbacks mentioned: · Higher pricing during holiday periods. · The breakfast selection could be more varied. · As a historic building, there are stairs, which can be tricky with heavy luggage. Verdict: An atmospheric boutique hotel with a strong focus on service and historical charm. Perfect for those who want to experience the soul of ancient Datong, not just a place to stay.

Perched high on a cliffside near Mount Heng in Datong, Shanxi, the Hanging Temple (Xuan Kong Temple) is a breathtaking sight. Its ancient wooden structures seem to float in mid-air, connected by narrow walkways that offer stunning views of the valley below. This incredible feat of Chinese architecture has stood the test of time for over 1,500 years. 🌟 📌 Must-do activities: Admire the temple from below, explore the cliffside buildings, and capture panoramic shots of the temple against the mountain backdrop. 💡 Pro-tip: Arrive early in the morning to beat the heat and avoid the crowds.

Everyone, I am truly amazed 😱! No need to fly to Urumqi or spend over 10 hours traveling to the Northwest. From Beijing, you can take a high-speed train for 1 hour and 40 minutes to see landforms just like the Devil City! This is truly a hidden gem for a spontaneous weekend trip ✨ 📍Address: Datong Earth Forest, Datong, Shanxi (also known as Shibangou) 🚄Transportation: Take a high-speed train from Beijing North/Qinghe to Datong South Station. It takes 1 hour and 40 minutes. After getting off the train, it's a 40-minute taxi ride to the Earth Forest. If driving, it takes 3.5 hours from Beijing, and the road is smooth and clear~ 🎫Admission: Only CNY 48, half price for students! It's much cheaper than going to an amusement park, and the value for money is unbeatable 👍 ⏰Best time to visit: Go 1 hour before sunset for incredible lighting! The Earth Forest turns golden red, and you can see reflections in the pools. The photos turn out absolutely stunning 😍 ✨It is so, so worth visiting: 1️⃣ The only Earth Forest landform in North China. After tens of thousands of years of wind and rain erosion, the earth pillars have taken on various shapes—some look like castles 🏰, some like pillars, and some like human figures. Nature's craftsmanship is truly breathtaking! 2️⃣ You must come at sunset! The setting sun hits the earth walls, turning them golden red and radiant. The reflections in the pools are incredibly clear. Every shot is a masterpiece, no editing required 📸 3️⃣ The scenic area is full of sandy paths. Walking on the trails flanked by earth walls gives a desolate, magnificent feeling, as if you've traveled to the Northwest or another planet 🌍 4️⃣ There are very few people! You don't have to wait for a photo spot at all. You can take photos however you like, and even those with social anxiety can snap away with confidence. The photo quality is super high~ 5️⃣ After visiting the Earth Forest, you can return to the Datong Ancient City. The city lights at night are very atmospheric, and the best part is that it's free to explore—no admission ticket needed! 6️⃣ Datong food is amazing! Sliced noodles, shaomai, lamb offal soup, yellow rice cake, and stir-fried pork—any roadside shop is delicious. The prices are incredibly cheap; a good meal for two costs just over CNY 100. It's worth a trip just for the food 🤤 🍜Must-eats: ▫️ Sliced noodles: Just find an old roadside shop. It's CNY 7–8 a bowl. The sauce is super fragrant. Add a meatball and some dried tofu—it's amazing! ▫️ Shaomai: The lamb shaomai is very fresh. A steamer basket is just over CNY 20. The skin is thin, the filling is generous, and every bite is so satisfying~ ▫️ Lamb offal soup: Have a bowl of lamb offal soup with a "beizi" (baked flatbread) in the morning. It's warm, fragrant, and a staple breakfast for Datong locals~ ▫️ Yellow rice cake: Chewy and sticky, dipped in white sugar. It's refreshing and delicious—girls will absolutely love it! 💡Things to know before you go: ▫️ There is no shade in the Earth Forest, so be sure to protect yourself from the sun! Wear a hat and sunglasses, or you'll get tanned in minutes 🌞 ▫️ Wear comfortable shoes. The paths are all sandy and can be difficult to walk on. ▫️ Definitely go at sunset. The daylight is too harsh during the day, making photos look bad. Arriving 1 hour before sunset is just right~ ▫️ No need to plan too much time; 1–2 hours is enough to explore the Earth Forest. You can spend the rest of the time exploring the ancient city and eating delicious food. ▫️ Datong is very cool in the summer. You'll need a light jacket for the morning and evening. It's much more comfortable than Beijing—a great summer retreat! ▫️ Do not climb on the earth pillars. The Earth Forest was formed by weathering and is very fragile. Please protect the natural landscape 🙏

Datong is best known for its remarkable ancient architecture, but beyond its historic temples and grottoes lies a completely different landscape—the extraordinary Datong Earth Forest. Unlike the towering stone forests found in more familiar destinations, this landscape is shaped from layers of earth and sediment, sculpted over time by wind, water and natural erosion. The result is a surreal maze of ridges, pillars, cliffs and strangely shaped formations. What makes the Datong Earth Forest particularly fascinating is its unusual setting. While many stone-forest landscapes rise prominently above the surrounding terrain, these formations are scattered across a low-lying basin, giving the entire area an enclosed and otherworldly appearance. Standing among the formations, it is easy to understand why the area has earned the nickname “North China’s Devil City.” The irregular earth pillars and winding formations create an almost fantastical landscape, especially when viewed under dramatic skies. It is also a wonderful reminder that Shanxi's natural scenery can be just as surprising as its cultural heritage. After exploring Datong's ancient buildings, stepping into this rugged landscape feels like entering an entirely different world. 📍 Datong Earth Forest, Shanxi, China 🇨🇳 📸 Photography Tip: Wide-angle compositions work particularly well here because they show the scale and density of the formations. Try photographing from a lower viewpoint to make the earth pillars appear even more dramatic against the sky. ✨ Datong has more than one face. There are ancient wooden structures, historic temples and magnificent grottoes—but there is also this strange, windswept landscape where nature has spent thousands of years creating its own architecture. No carved roofs, no painted beams, no human builders—just wind, water and time shaping an extraordinary “Devil City” in the northern Chinese landscape. 🏜️🌬️

The steps are a bit steep Best photo spot is on the plank road opposite the temple📸 Plan to spend 2–3 hours here This 1,500-year-old temple hanging in the air is truly breathtaking! An ancient architectural marvel built on a cliff, definitely worth seeing!🏯✨

If you’re visiting Datong, the Hanging Temple is one of the most unusual places you can add to your itinerary. Built directly into a steep cliff, the temple looks almost impossible from below — wooden halls, narrow walkways and tiny structures seem to cling to the mountain. It’s very different from the Yungang Grottoes, and that contrast is exactly why I think both are worth visiting. Here’s what to know before you go 👇 🏯 What Is the Hanging Temple? The Hanging Temple, also known as Xuankong Temple, is built into the side of Mount Heng near Datong. What makes it so memorable is the location. Instead of sitting on flat ground, the buildings are attached to the cliff face, connected by narrow walkways and supported by wooden structures. From a distance, it almost looks like the temple is floating. 📸 The Best View Is from Below Before going closer, stop and look at the entire temple from the base of the cliff. This is where you really understand the scale. From below, you can see how small the buildings look compared with the mountain and how dramatically they sit against the rock. For photos, I’d definitely take: ⛰️ full cliff views 🏯 wide shots of the temple 📐 details of the wooden structures 🌄 mountain scenery 🚶 people for scale The wide-angle views are some of the best. 🚶 What Is It Like Inside? If access to the temple interior is available during your visit, expect narrow passages, stairs and small walkways. It feels much more intimate once you’re actually inside. This is not a huge complex where you wander for hours. The experience is more about the unusual architecture and the feeling of standing on a temple built directly into a cliff. ⏰ How Much Time Do You Need? I’d allow around 1.5–2 hours. That gives you enough time to: 📸 photograph it from below 🚶 explore the area 🏯 visit the temple itself if access is open 🌄 enjoy the surrounding mountain views You don’t need a full day just for the Hanging Temple. 🚗 How to Get There from Datong The temple is outside central Datong, so transport is the main thing to plan. For me, the easiest option would be: 🚗 private car or driver 🚕 taxi / arranged transfer 🚌 organized day trip If you only have one full sightseeing day, combining the Hanging Temple with the Yungang Grottoes is possible, but it becomes a long day because the attractions are in different directions. 💡 My Tip Don’t underestimate the drive. The temple itself doesn’t require all day, but getting there takes time. That’s why I’d either make it part of a carefully planned full-day route or give Datong at least two sightseeing days. 👟 What to Bring 👟 comfortable shoes 💧 water ☀️ sun protection 🧥 an extra layer in cooler seasons If you’re going up into the temple, I’d avoid anything uncomfortable for stairs and narrow walkways. ✨ Is the Hanging Temple Worth Visiting? Yes. It isn’t the biggest attraction around Datong, but it might be the most visually unusual. You can see temples all over China, but seeing one built directly into a sheer cliff feels completely different. For me, the best part was simply standing below it and wondering how anyone decided this was a reasonable place to build a temple in the first place 😄 If you’re already traveling to Datong, I’d absolutely add it. 📍 Hanging Temple / Xuankong Temple, Shanxi, China #HangingTemple #XuankongTemple #Datong #Shanxi #ChinaTravel #DatongTravel #ChinaTrip

If you’re visiting Datong, the Yungang Grottoes should absolutely be on your itinerary. This was one of those places where photos really don’t prepare you for the scale. Carved directly into the cliffs, the Yungang Grottoes contain hundreds of Buddhist caves, thousands of statues and enormous stone Buddhas that have survived for more than 1,500 years. Here’s why I think it’s worth visiting 👇 🪨 What Are the Yungang Grottoes? The grottoes were created during the Northern Wei period and are one of the most important examples of early Buddhist cave art in China. As you walk through the complex, you move between small carved chambers and huge caves filled with detailed statues. Some sculptures are tiny. Others are several stories high. That contrast is what makes the site feel so impressive. 🪷 The Giant Buddha Statues The most memorable part for me was seeing the huge Buddha figures carved directly into the rock. You can stand at the entrance of a cave and suddenly realize just how enormous the sculpture inside is. Look closely at the smaller details too — faces, clothing, patterns and decorations cover the walls around many of the main statues. 📸 Take Your Time This isn’t somewhere I’d rush through. Each cave looks different, and the details are easy to miss if you’re only moving from one giant Buddha to the next. I’d stop regularly and look at: 🪷 Buddha faces 🪨 rock carvings ✨ painted details 🏯 cave entrances 📐 symmetry inside the larger grottoes The closer you look, the more interesting it becomes. ⏰ How Much Time Do You Need? I’d allow around 3–4 hours for a comfortable first visit. If you love history, architecture or photography, you could easily spend longer. The whole complex is larger than it initially appears. 🚗 How to Visit from Datong The Yungang Grottoes are outside central Datong, so the easiest option is usually to travel there by taxi, Didi or private car. Because it’s one of Datong’s major attractions, it’s very easy to make it the main sightseeing stop of the day. I’d go earlier and leave the rest of the afternoon for another Datong attraction rather than trying to squeeze the grottoes into a short visit. 👟 What to Bring 👟 comfortable shoes 💧 water ☀️ sun protection 📱 charged phone or camera A lot of the visit involves walking outside between the different cave areas. 💡 My Tip Don’t only focus on the largest Buddha. Some of the smaller caves have incredible details that are much easier to appreciate up close. Slow down and look inside as many of the open grottoes as you can. ✨ Is Yungang Worth Visiting? Absolutely. Even after seeing plenty of temples and historical sites in China, Yungang feels completely different. The combination of ancient caves, enormous Buddhas and incredibly detailed rock carvings makes it one of the most memorable places around Datong. If you’re already traveling through this part of China, I wouldn’t skip it. 📍 Yungang Grottoes, Datong, Shanxi, China #YungangGrottoes #Datong #Shanxi #ChinaTravel #DatongTravel #ChinaHistory #VisitChina

Datong is a seriously underrated city. Just a two-hour high-speed train ride from Beijing, and you're in a completely different China—no tourist mobs and history on every single corner. I mainly came here for the Yungang Grottoes, and they totally lived up to the hype. There are thousands of Buddhist statues carved straight into the rock face over 1,500 years ago. Standing right next to them, it's hard to wrap your head around how they were made by hand. They rival Longmen and Mogao in significance, but with a fraction of the crowds. The Hanging Temple (Xuankong Temple) is the second thing that’ll blow your mind. It’s literally clinging to a sheer cliff face on Mount Heng, and it’s over 1,400 years old. Looking up from the bottom, you can hardly believe people actually walk up there—until you make the climb yourself. Datong’s ancient city is encircled by nearly 7 km of city walls, restored in the Ming Dynasty style. I climbed up in the evening; from the top, you get a sprawling view of the old city's rooftops, and you really grasp the sheer scale of the place. I also stopped by Lingyan Temple and the pond right in front of the caves. A lot of people skip it and rush straight to the grottoes, which is a shame because there's a highly photogenic water pavilion there. Then there’s Fahua Temple with its quirky bottle-shaped white pagoda—a rare gem blending Han, Tibetan, and Mongolian architectural motifs all in one spot. On the weird but cool side: the Liu Laosi'er Vinegar Cultural Center. The brand has been around for 600 years, and they sell everything made from locally aged vinegar, including vinegar ice cream and vinegar cola. Sounds wild, but you’ve gotta try it, even if just for the novelty. And a special shoutout to the Xiaonantang Beiwei Chashi teahouse—it’s dedicated to the tea culture of the Northern Wei dynasty, recreating historical sweets and beverages. It’s drop-dead gorgeous; you could snap photos in there forever. Long story short, if you're wondering where to take an off-the-beaten-path trip from Beijing, go with Datong. Grottoes, a cliffside monastery, a walled ancient city, and absolutely zero exhausting crowds.

Stop 1: Datong ancient city wall 🕍: The ancient city wall is 7.24 km long and is one of the largest surviving ancient city walls in China. It consists of an inner city and an outer city and was one of the nine key military towns during the Ming dynasty. 📸: It’s best to visit at dusk! The wall looks especially beautiful when lit up at night. The night view is perfect for photos of both people and scenery. You can climb every turret on the wall, and from the highest point, you get a breathtaking panoramic view of the ancient city at night. Stop 2: Datong ancient city - bell tower 🕰️: The bell tower is the only surviving Ming dynasty bell tower in China. It has four stories, three eaves, and a cross-gable hip roof. Its unique architectural style is an important physical reference for studying Ming dynasty architecture. Stop 3: Datong ancient city - Sipailou 🌆: The ancient city has many well-preserved historic buildings, such as the drum tower, the Prince Dai’s mansion, and the Confucian temple, along with various local snacks. Strolling through the ancient city at night lets you experience its traditional charm and atmosphere. Stop 4: Nine-Dragon Wall 🐲: The Nine-Dragon Wall is the largest glazed dragon wall in China. It is 35.6 m long, 8 m high, and 2.02 m wide. The wall features nine dragons in different poses, lifelike and vivid. At night, the lighting on the wall creates a spectacular scene. Stop 5: Datong ancient city - Great Mosque 🕌️: The Great Mosque is the largest and best-preserved mosque in Shanxi province. It is an important physical reference for studying Islamic architecture in China. When lit up at night, the mosque looks even more mysterious, solemn, and majestic. In short, Datong’s nights are truly beautiful! Walking, taking photos, and enjoying the night view on the ancient city wall lets you feel the unique blend of deep history and modern vibrancy.

Datong in August is truly a gift from above 🌤️ While other places are scorching hot, the highest temperature here is only around 26℃, and it drops to about 15℃ in the mornings and evenings, feeling dry and not stuffy. For my 3-day, 2-night trip, the Yungang Grottoes admission ticket was CNY 120. Add in old city accommodation, unlimited knife-cut noodles, cold noodles, and lamb offal soup, and you can enjoy a moderately comfortable trip for just over CNY 1,000 per person. The value for money is incredible 💰 ☔ A quick heads-up on what to wear Datong weather in August can change in an instant; it rained almost every day I was here. Short-sleeved shirts and long pants are standard, but definitely pack a light jacket. The evening breeze on the old city wall can make 16℃ feel genuinely cold 🧥 Don't forget sun protection either; the UV rays are relentless in open areas like the Buddhist Ritual Avenue. Comfortable athletic shoes are a must. Flash photography is prohibited in the grottoes, so remember to increase your ISO if you want to take photos 📸 🏨 Accommodation (no-fail options) I highly recommend staying inside or near the old city! I booked a place near Huayan Temple in the old city on Trip.com. Hotels like Jianguo Pu Yin, Mehao, Meijing, and Yang all have ratings above 4.7. You can walk right out to explore the old city and stroll back after enjoying the city wall night view 🏮 If you're on a tighter budget, budget-friendly options like Aoduo Weilai, which face the old city, are also good. They offer smart room control + giant screen projectors, providing great value 🛏️ Book in advance on Trip.com. Although August is peak season, there are many choices in the old city area, so don't wait until the last minute. 🗺️ My relaxed itinerary (no rush version) Day 1: Wake up naturally, head straight to Yungang Grottoes in the morning ⛰️ I entered right when it opened at 7:30 AM. I saw the outdoor Great Buddha in Cave 20, the carved ceilings in Caves 5-6, and the Tanyao Five Caves all in one go. Rent an audio guide and listen at your own pace; 3.5 hours is just right. For lunch, have a bowl of knife-cut noodles in the city. Dongfang Xiaomian is about CNY 12 per person, and Xijindao Noodle Restaurant is around CNY 35 per person; the toppings are so fragrant they'll make you stomp your feet 🍜 In the afternoon, wander into Datong Old City. The Liao and Jin dynasty architecture of Huayan Temple is awe-inspiring; don't miss the Bodhisattva with clasped hands and exposed teeth in the Bojia Sutra Repository Hall. In the evening, climb the old city wall to watch the sunset. It's free to enter, and the moment the lights come on will give you goosebumps ✨ For dinner, go to Longjuxiang for shaomai, about CNY 64 per person. The pan-fried lamb snowflake shaomai are juicy and flavorful. Pair them with a bowl of Hunyuan cold noodles, which are cool, sour, and spicy, perfect for an appetizer, and only CNY 5–8 🥢 Day 2: Take a chartered car or carpool to Hunyuan. You must go early to the Hanging Temple, arriving before 8:30 AM to avoid the crowds. Tickets for climbing are limited, so it's recommended to grab them in advance through official channels. In the afternoon, walk at the foot of Mount Heng. On the way back, eat a bowl of authentic Xiaoxifu cold noodles in Hunyuan County, about CNY 18 per person. The chewy potato starch noodles with fried broad beans will completely dispel the summer heat 🥗 Day 3: Wake up leisurely, visit Shanhua Temple, and buy some daylilies and aged vinegar as souvenirs on Gulou East Street. Finish with Sun Ji Baozi's smoked meat buns and millet porridge, about CNY 19 per person for a satisfying meal 🎒 💸 Hot price guide Yungang Grottoes: CNY 120, half price for students (CNY 60), free for those aged 60 and above. City transportation is surprisingly affordable: buses start at CNY 2, taxis start at CNY 7, and the Yungang direct shuttle is CNY 10 per person 🚌 For food, knife-cut noodles are CNY 9–18 a bowl, lamb offal soup is CNY 20. Fenglin Pavilion's Baihua Shaomai, at CNY 85 per person, is more for a ceremonial experience. For everyday dining, Longjuxiang or Zini 369 Coarse Grain Season (CNY 70–80 per person) are more down-to-earth. 👗 Photo-ready outfit tips Yungang and Huayan Temple feature red walls, gray tiles, and natural wood. Wearing all black, white, or gray will make you blend into the background! I wore an apricot linen maxi dress with a small crossbody bag, and just standing in front of the grottoes created a great atmospheric shot 📷 Macaron colors, off-white, light pink, and light blue are all super compatible with ancient architecture. Just remember not to wear all black. 🍜 Honest food tips to avoid pitfalls Shaomai and knife-cut noodle restaurants near the old city gates with "century-old brand" signs can have prices inflated by 50%, and their quality control can be inconsistent. For authentic food, go directly to old shops in residential areas; the ones where locals queue are always reliable. If a taxi driver enthusiastically recommends a restaurant, just smile politely and don't actually go 🚫 You must try sea buckthorn juice; it's sweet, sour, and refreshing, a perfect pairing for shaomai. Datong in August is the kind of place you'll want to visit a second or third time. For those visiting the Hanging Temple, don't just take a quick photo at the bottom and leave! The awe-inspiring experience of climbing to the top is a must! This ancient temple, nestled in the cliff face of Mount Heng's Cuiping Peak, is a sight to behold, inspiring awe at the incredible wisdom of the ancients. Climbing to the top is an unforgettable experience! ✨ Key Highlights ✔️ A Thousand-Year-Old Suspended Architectural Miracle Originally built during the Northern Wei Dynasty, 27 hemlock beams are half-inserted into the rock face, supporting 40 halls and pavilions without a single nail or rivet. It has withstood a thousand years of wind, rain, and earthquakes, remaining as stable as a rock. Those seemingly slender pillars supporting the halls are merely "visual comfort." The true secret to its load-bearing capacity lies in the mortise and tenon joints between the rock and the beams. Walking on the walkway, feeling the wooden beams tremble slightly, with the mountain wind blowing beneath your feet, your heart rate will soar to 180! 👉 The dragon heads on the pillars are quite significant: ① The entire temple is shaped like a "giant dragon hanging on the cliff," with the dragon heads reinforcing the dragon imagery; ② The dragon is a mythical creature recognized by Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism, aligning with the concept of the unity of the three religions; ③ There is a folk saying that "touching the dragon's head brings a lifetime of peace and happiness." ✔️ A Unique Ancient Temple Blending the Three Religions The entire temple is designed with Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism coexisting. Statues of Shakyamuni, Lao Tzu, and Confucius stand side by side in the same hall. Although the halls are suspended on a cliff, they embody the Eastern philosophy of "harmony in diversity." The incense has burned for a thousand years, filled with a peaceful atmosphere accumulated over time. ✔️ A timeless landmark for poets and writers: The poet Li Bai, upon ascending the mountain, penned the words "Magnificent!" (壮观), adding a dot to the character "壮" (magnificent) to imply its extreme grandeur. Xu Xiake, a renowned traveler, also praised it as a "masterpiece of the world." Standing in the same viewing spot as the ancients, one feels transported back a thousand years. 📸 Hidden Photo Angles 1⃣️ Panoramic view from the foot of the mountain, framing the cliffs, ancient temples, and mist for a breathtaking sense of suspended time (a popular spot for photos). 2⃣️ Side view from the middle-level walkway, capturing the upturned eaves against the backdrop of the cliffs for a divine atmosphere. 3⃣️ Telephoto shots from the third-level corner and exit, capturing the palace windows from above – a unique juxtaposition of ancient and modern. …🐱 An Unexpected Surprise! Wearing a tight long skirt and a sleeveless camisole was really a bad choice! The outdoor open-air paths are exposed to strong sun, while the grottoes stay cool year-round. The constant temperature changes make it easy to catch a cold, and the long skirt made climbing stairs very difficult. Planning your outfit well will greatly improve your visit experience! ✅ Weather and outfit ⛅ Datong temperature: 19℃–29℃. Strong sunlight during the day with occasional short showers. The grottoes maintain a constant temperature of 12–15℃, creating a big temperature difference inside and outside. ✔ Clothing: breathable short sleeves, thin long pants, and carry a light sun-protection jacket for easy layering. ✔ Accessories: sun hat, sunglasses, high-SPF sunscreen, and a sun/rain umbrella are essential. ✔ Shoes: non-slip flat sneakers. There are many stone steps throughout, so sandals or high heels are not suitable. 🗺 Route plan ✅ Entrance → Worship avenue → Tanyao square → Caves 16–20 (Tanyao five caves) ✅ Caves 5 and 6 (core caves of Yungang, don’t miss them) ✅ Wuhua cave (Caves 9–13) → Lingyan temple ✅ Yungang Grottoes Museum → Cultural and creative street area to exit the park ⚠ Tips for visiting ❶ It’s recommended to enter the park at 7:30 AM when it opens. The morning light is soft, and you can avoid the midday heat and tour groups. ❷ Flash photography is not allowed inside the caves. Do not touch the stone carvings, as the sandstone statues are easily damaged. ❸ It’s hard to understand the history just by looking. It’s recommended to use electronic guides or arrange for a live guide. ❹ The walking distance is long. If you have mobility issues, consider buying a sightseeing shuttle ticket to reduce walking. ❺ The steps by the lake at Lingyan temple are damp. Watch your step when taking photos to avoid slipping.
