A small but full-feeling Wondang Market tour
A small but full-bodied Wondang Market Tour
Hello, food lovers! Today, I will introduce seven foods that I bought with my own money at Wondang Market, a hidden gem in Goyang City. Enjoy Hyeseong Mandu, Chowon Tteokbokki, Sundaerella Tteokbokki, Famous Red Odeng, Wondang Tteokgalbi, Wondang Bakery, and Wondang Naengmyeon in a cozy market atmosphere! Would you like to experience all these tastes in one place? I will post them in order of photos.
1. Hyeseong Mandu: The ultimate in handmade dumplings made with care
The smell of dumplings that catches your nose as soon as you step into Wondang Market! Hyeseong Mandu is the market's representative restaurant, and the sight of steam rising from a large steaming pot is spectacular. Popular menus here are meat dumplings, kimchi dumplings, and large king dumplings. The bite-sized dumplings are perfect as a snack, and the king dumplings are perfect as a hearty meal. The secret to Hyesung Mandu lies in its fresh ingredients and sincerity. Every morning, they prepare the dumpling filling with Jeju Island-sourced radish and carefully selected meat and vegetables from the market. The thin and chewy dumpling skin, hand-rolled, creates a fantastic harmony with the filling. The prices are reasonable too! Dumplings and steamed buns are 5,000 won, cold noodles and chewy noodles are 7,000 won, and tteok mandu soup and dolsot bibimbap are 8,000 won, making it the best value for money!
2. Grassland Tteokbokki: Tteokbokki from the past for 1,000 won
The grassland tteokbokki with a retro feel is the pride of Wondang Market! It offers a taste of memories at an unbelievable price of 1,000 won for one serving of tteokbokki. The red-simmered tteokbokki is the perfect combination of spicy and sweet seasoning and chewy rice cakes. The visuals that remind you of the neighborhood snack shops from your childhood will whet your appetite. But there is one downside... If you are sensitive to hygiene... you can avoid it.
In addition to tteokbokki, there are many cheap side dishes such as odeng (500 won) and fried food, so it is good to enjoy it while browsing the market. However, payment is only possible with cash or bank transfer, so make sure to bring cash! Don't miss the fun of walking through the market alley with a plate of hot tteokbokki.
3. Sundaerella Tteokbokki: Cinderella of Spicy
Another tteokbokki restaurant in Wondang Market, Sundaerella Tteokbokki! This place is famous for its spicy taste and chewy tteokbokki, and it is a menu that you can't miss at the market. Sundaerella Tteokbokki is a combination of chewy tteok and spicy seasoning that will make you exclaim in admiration as soon as you take a bite. It is clever in that it cooks wheat and rice tteok together to satisfy both wheat and rice tteok lovers. The fried food that is cooked on the spot is worth mentioning. In particular, the tteokbokki cooked on the spot in the lively atmosphere of the market is fresh itself! The price is cheap, so you can enjoy it without feeling burdened. It tastes even better when eaten with sundae or fried food, so be sure to try it.
4. Famous Red Odeng: The charm of spicy odeng
The hidden gem of market food, Famous Red Odeng! The odeng here is the best with fish cakes cooked in spicy broth. Both the soy sauce and spicy sauce for dipping, which come in two flavors, were delicious. The red broth is spicy yet has a deep savory flavor, making it a menu that comes to mind especially on cold days. It is great to buy one skewer at a time and eat it while walking around the market, or to share with others.
5. Wondang Tteokgalbi: Juicy handmade tteokgalbi
Wondang Tteokgalbi, which arrives with the scent of meat, is the popular star of the market! The handmade tteokgalbi, which is sizzlingly cooked on a cooking device like a stove, is a visual that makes your mouth water just by looking at it. The large patties, made by mincing and mixing meat, are on a different level from the frozen tteokgalbi from the market, and are bursting with juice. There are two types, spicy and mild, but they are not sold together... I was already on a food tour, so I asked if they would sell me one to try, but they were surprisingly firm. The juice is the best in the handmade fried tteokgalbi.
6. Wondang Bakery: The magic of 900 won bread
Desert time is at Wondang Bakery! Handmade breads are sold at low prices. Despite the low price, the taste is comparable to that of large bakeries! From soft cream bread, sweet soboru, and rich red bean bread, each and every one of them
is filled with sincerity. The sight of people walking around the market with bags of bread in their hands is a famous sight at Wondang Market.
7. Wondang Naengmyeon: A refreshing and clean bowl
Cold noodles are the best on hot days! Wondang Naengmyeon is a place where you can enjoy refreshing and clean cold noodles near Wondang Market. The chewy noodles and deep broth are a perfect combination that blows away the heat. In particular, it's a good menu to finish off after enjoying food at the market.
It's a taste that may be a bit divisive. I was generally satisfied with the taste for about 8,000 won. Choose between bibim naengmyeon and mul naengmyeon to suit your taste.
Parking: Seongsa 3rd public parking lot, be sure to bring cash~
