#bucketlistdestinations Standing at the edge of the glacial lagoon and staring up at the giant granite monoliths of Mirador Las Torres was one of those moments that completely froze time for me. The journey up was non-stop intensity, covering roughly 18 kilometers round trip with about 900 meters of elevation gain through the heart of Chilean Patagonia. I started early from the trailhead near Hotel Las Torres, pushing through the initial steep burn up the Ascencio Valley, where the wild Patagonian wind practically tried to knock me off my feet. The trail briefly leveled out near Refugio Chileno before throwing its toughest challenge at me, a brutal, relentless boulder scramble up a steep moraine field. My legs were screaming on that final push, but the moment I crested the rocky ridge and saw those three massive towers rising straight into the sky above the glowing turquoise water, every single ounce of exhaustion vanished. Getting to this remote corner of the world takes a bit of planning, but executing the trip turned out to be straightforward. I flew into Santiago first, took a domestic flight down to Puerto Natales, and used that cozy town as my base camp. From the main bus terminal in Puerto Natales, I caught an early morning public bus for the two-hour ride to the Laguna Amarga entrance of Torres del Paine National Park. Once at the gate, I hopped on a quick local shuttle that dropped me directly at the Welcome Center trailhead to begin the hike. To pull it all off, I paid about $35 USD for the official foreign visitor park entrance ticket which I had to buy online beforehand, around $20 USD for the round-trip bus ticket from Puerto Natales, and roughly $6 USD total for the round-trip shuttle connection inside the park. Putting Mirador Las Torres at the top of my bucket list was easily one of the best decisions I have ever made. Out of all the trekking I have done across different continents, nothing quite matches the raw power, unpredictable elements, and sheer scale of this Patagonian landscape. Reaching that viewpoint felt like earned magic, a reward that required physical grit, endurance, and respect for nature at its most untamed. After exploring the "bold" mountain city and artsy district in Chile, our next stop is to "cross the Andes Mountains" and fly from Santiago to El Calafate (FTE), Argentina! 🇦🇷🏔️ 💡 Trip.com Booking Tips: Want to make your trip twice as efficient? The secret is to book your flight and the first night's accommodation in the small town on Trip.com in advance 🏨! Especially when visiting these remote South American towns, having someone to pick you up or knowing where you're headed in advance really puts your mind at ease and makes everything go smoothly! 🙌✨ Our flight departed from SCL to FTE at 2:55 PM local time ☕, taking about two and a half hours. After landing, we found that FTE airport is really small. We searched around but couldn't find a currency exchange (Casa de Cambio). ❌ Additionally, it's quite difficult to call an Uber. Don't waste time standing at the entrance scrolling on your phone. After landing, it's best to directly look for an official airport taxi (Remis) or Shuttle Bus. If you're traveling with a group of friends, getting a taxi into town is the most cost-effective option.

I took the cable car 🚡 up to Cerro San Cristóbal. The first thing that struck me was the stunning snow-white Virgin Mary statue (Virgen de la Inmaculada Concepción) guarding the entire city! 🗽 Beneath the statue, there is a beautifully crafted open-air chapel. From the terrace next to the chapel, you can overlook the entire Santiago city center, and even see the distant Andes snow-capped mountains 🏔️ clearly.

Want to enjoy a 360-degree view of Santiago? Then you must visit Cerro San Cristóbal! 🏔️ We chose to go up by cable car and come down by funicular, experiencing two completely different visual thrills in one trip. It was definitely the highlight of our journey! 🔝✨ ⬆️ Going up: Cable Car (Teleférico) for a smooth ride 🚠 Starting point: Oasis Station (near Pedro de Valdivia Station). The cable car is modern and very stable. The best part is gliding through the air while enjoying views of South America's tallest building, Sky Costanera, alongside the majestic Andes Mountains 🏔️❄️. The feeling of weaving between skyscrapers is incredible, and the photos are absolutely stunning! 📸 ⬇️ Coming down: Funicular for a thrilling descent 🎢 Starting point: At the mountain top, switch to the over 100-year-old funicular to return to Pío Nono Station. Experience: This funicular is a national monument! The wooden carriages travel down a steep track all the way to the base of the mountain.🤣

Upon reaching the summit, I was immediately struck by the stunning snow-white statue of the Virgin Mary (Virgen de la Inmaculada Concepción) guarding the entire city! 🗽✨ The "Pure White Landmark" 🗽🤍 stands 14 meters tall (22 meters including the base!) and has been perched atop the mountain since 1908. The statue, completely white, stretches its arms towards Santiago's city center, making it visible from almost any corner of the city. It serves as a spiritual pillar for the locals. 🙏 This is the highest viewpoint in Santiago! To the left, you can see modern skyscrapers, including South America's tallest building, Sky Costanera. 🏙️ To the right, there's the charming old town. The backdrop is the breathtaking Andes Mountains. If you visit during winter, the snowy peaks paired with the cityscape will surely earn countless Likes! 📸💯
