The City Of London, Surprisingly Affordable And Walkable Hotspot In The Capital
I am always shocked by how expensive hotels have become in London, especially on the weekend. You often have to stay far outside of the city to save money, then pay travel costs to get to the city. However I have recently been saving money by staying in the City Of London during weekends - it’s very reasonable and also very quiet! As it is a huge financial district the City Of London is a ghost town on the weekend, the tube here is quite along with the roads - it almost feels pedestrianized.
I often stay at the travel lodge near liverpool street station, for around $60 per night including breakfast. The rooms are basic but clean, and the breakfast offering is amazing. They have 24 hour security and key card entry, there are about 6 branches within this area with differing prices but all under $100 a night.
As this area is quiet on the weekends the streets are very safe and you are within walking distance of brick lane, shoreditch, bank, St. Pauls cathedral, London Bridge, Monument and plenty of other landmarks.
It is also an amazing area to explore as it combines some of the oldest and newest buildings in London, some on top of each other. The contrasts are incredible.
If you do want to go further afield plenty of bus routes originate at Liverpool street, along with many tube connections!
Since discovering this little hack I’ve been able to do weekends in London on a lot less money. Being able to budget for other things like meals, treats and souvenirs!

🏙️ Historic Pulse: City of London Walk to Leadenhall Market
#londontrips
Step into the original “Square Mile” — where London began — and trace a route through some of the capital’s most iconic sights, finishing in one of its most magical covered markets. This walk blends grandeur, hidden gems, and cinematic charm.
⛪ Start at St. Paul’s Cathedral
Begin your journey with the towering dome of St. Paul’s, Sir Christopher Wren’s masterpiece. Step inside (or admire from outside) and feel the gravitas of history — from royal jubilees to wartime resilience.
📸 Tip: Cross the nearby Millennium Bridge for a striking Thames view before circling back.
🏛️ Wander by Guildhall & Roman Ruins
Just a short walk away, stumble upon Guildhall, the historic city hall since medieval times. Peek into its courtyard or visit the Roman Amphitheatre hidden beneath the Guildhall Art Gallery — one of London’s oldest buried treasures.
🏦 Pass by the Bank of England & Royal Exchange
As you head east, the imposing columns of the Bank of England and the Royal Exchange form the beating financial heart of London. Yet amidst the suits and skyscrapers, the cobblestone charm still peeks through.
☕ Pop into Fortnum & Mason inside the Royal Exchange for a posh coffee break.
🐉 Enter the World of Leadenhall Market
Finish your walk at the magical Leadenhall Market. With its ornate Victorian roof, twisting alleyways, and atmospheric lighting, it’s no wonder it doubled as Diagon Alley in Harry Potter.
From boutique shops to cozy pubs, this is the perfect spot to soak in centuries of history with a modern twist.
🎁 Tip: Visit after dark when the market is softly lit — ideal for evening bites and Insta-worthy shots.

Title: London Layers: Every Street Tells a Story
London is more than a destination—it’s a rhythm, a feeling, a story unfolding one cobblestone at a time. The moment I arrived, I felt the city's heartbeat pulsing through its Underground, echoing in pub laughter, and whispering from ancient buildings that stand shoulder-to-shoulder with modern glass towers.
What made London unforgettable to me wasn't just the headline attractions. Yes, I was awe-struck seeing the Tower of London lit at night, or hearing Big Ben chime in real life—but it was the quieter moments that stayed with me. Walking through the pastel streets of Notting Hill on a misty morning. Watching performers in Covent Garden turning crowds into a chorus of laughter. Sipping tea in a small café in Soho where I accidentally struck up a conversation with a local playwright.
One of my favorite days was spent exploring Shoreditch. The street art felt alive—graffiti walls changing week to week. I stumbled into an independent bookstore, and later found a rooftop bar with views stretching all the way to The Shard. London is like that—unexpected, endlessly layered, and always a little magical.
Best time to visit? Late spring (May to June) and early fall (September) offer ideal weather and lighter crowds. Parks are in full bloom, pub gardens are buzzing, and the city feels open and alive.
Bonus Tips:
Must-visit spots: Borough Market for incredible global bites, the Sky Garden for a free panoramic city view, and the V&A Museum if you’re into design and fashion.
Hidden Gem: Neal’s Yard in Covent Garden—a tiny, colorful courtyard packed with charm and character.
Pro Tip: Use an Oyster Card or contactless credit card for seamless travel across the Tube and buses. And always mind the gap!

Lost in london
This holiday I had the opportunity to visit London, one of my long-time dream cities. The classic yet modern atmosphere of the city was immediately felt as soon as I arrived. My days there were full of adventures, from enjoying tea in a small Victorian-style shop to exploring famous landmarks such as Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, and of course Tower Bridge. One of the most memorable moments was walking along the Thames River at night. The city lights reflected on the water, and Tower Bridge looked so majestic lit up at night. I also had the chance to ride the London Eye, witnessing the view of the city from above—a truly indescribable experience. Not to forget, I enjoyed various typical British cuisines, tried fish and chips at a local restaurant, and shopped for souvenirs at Camden Market. Every corner of this city has a story, and it feels like a week in London is still not enough. This holiday is not only about beautiful places, but also about experiencing culture, meeting new people, and creating memories that I will always remember. London, I will definitely be back! #travel #london #staycation #europe

WILD AND WOOD COFFEE
City of London,
Forbes & Hamilton (formerly Wild & Wood)
When @wild_and_wood_coffee opened in 2008, specialty coffee shops in London barely reached double digits. Its original location on New Oxford Street occupied a vibrant space in the vacant Royal Mail sorting office, which at the time hosted pop-ups and creative events. I vividly remember Mr. Brainwash’s first UK solo exhibition in 2012, spanning multiple floors of the building, with his iconic murals adorning its exterior a far cry from what the site has become today. But I digress…
Wild & Wood relocated in 2015 due to redevelopment, reopening on London Wall. The owners, Bozena and Kit, carried the spirit of the original café with them, they transplanted their original wood panelling, seats, and tables, all salvaged from an old church, to preserve the charm and atmosphere that made it a favourite.
