At Kuriyama Station, the transfer station to Aizuwakamatsu, I smelled the smell of bread from a bakery as soon as I arrived at the station, and I couldn’t help but buy two kinds of bread This bakery has been completely decorated in a Halloween atmosphere, very cute. There were hundreds of cherry trees planted on both sides of the river, and it was really beautiful. If you cross the road to the other side, the cherry trees continue all the way from the bridge, making it the perfect spot for photos. Koriyamayudokoro Manekinoyu was the first onsen we visited on our current trip to tohoku—and it turned out to be a wonderful and relaxing experience for the whole family. From the moment we stepped in, the staff were incredibly friendly and eager to help, despite our very limited Japanese. They patiently guided us through the process, which made things so much smoother, especially for our first soak of the trip. The bathhouse seemed to be popular with the locals, which we always take as a good sign. It had a nice, authentic community feel—people chatting quietly, unwinding after their day, and going about their routine. It made us feel like we were getting a true slice of everyday Japanese life. Inside, there were a variety of pools, each designed for different purposes—some hotter, some with bubbles or jets, and others more for a calm soak. Everyone in the family found something they liked, and it was such a great way to ease the travel fatigue, especially after hours of moving around. While it wasn’t a fancy or luxury-style onsen, Manekinoyu felt genuine, clean, and welcoming—everything we were hoping for from a local public bath. We stayed at Daiwa Roynet Hotel Koriyama Station for a night after a long drive straight from Narita International Airport, and by the time we arrived, the whole family was exhausted. What stood out most during our short stay wasn’t just the hotel itself—but the exceptional service we received from one very special staff member. There was a small hiccup during the check-in process, but Miss Hanh, the front desk receptionist, handled everything with such grace, patience, and warmth. She went above and beyond to make sure our stay was comfortable, and her sincere efforts to accommodate our needs truly touched us. It wasn’t just professionalism—it was genuine kindness, and that made all the difference after a tiring day of travel. We later found out that she’s actually from Vietnam, and all I can say is: what a gem of a person and a valuable asset to the hotel. Keep smiling and doing what you do so well, Miss Hanh! Morning is a yogurt specialty store in Fukushima. They also have cafes in Saikon and Asaka, so I went there for lunch. The menu includes dishes that use yogurt, and they are very delicious. I thought the yogurt in particular was the best I have ever eaten. Unfortunately, they don't seem to have any branches in Tokyo. The cafe has a parking lot, and it seems like they get a lot of customers from outside the prefecture. They also had a wide variety of yogurt to take away.

The view from the hilltop where the ancient tomb is recreated is amazing, and the breeze coming in from the river is refreshing. The exhibits, which span from the Jomon to Kofun periods, are easy to understand. It's even easier to understand if you ask a volunteer to explain things to you. There are plenty of playground equipment for children outside. You can make magatama for 500 yen, and try making fire for free, without making a reservation.

Aika, formerly a fruit shop in Koriyama with a 40-year history, has been transformed by its owner—an avid whiskey and toy collector—into a bar specializing in fruit cocktails and rare whiskey (available by the glass). Within a few years, it has become a popular spot for second or third rounds in Koriyama, often packed between 9 PM and 11 PM. Highly recommended are the visually appealing and delicious honeydew melon cocktail slush and salted watermelon cocktail. #cherryblossom25 The Benishidare Jizo cherry tree is one of those stand there and stare for 10 minutes kind of spots. It’s a massive weeping cherry with these long, flowy branches covered in soft pink blossoms that just cascade down like nature’s version of a curtain. Super graceful, super peaceful, just pure vibes. It’s not some huge park or anything, but that’s what makes it cool. You roll up and there’s this one stunning tree doing all the work. There’s a little jizo statue underneath tiny guardian monk energy, and it just adds this calm, almost spiritual feel to the scene. Perfect for a quick stop that turns into a slow, quiet moment. Bring a camera or just chill and take it all in. You don’t need a crowd or fireworks when a single tree looks this good. Seriously, this tree is the definition of less is more.

When you go up the elevator, the view of the city spreads out before you, and it's a great view. There are few people and it's great that you can enter for free. Takayashiki Inari Shrine has the same torii gates as Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine in Kyoto. Although there are not as many as 800 torii gates, it is still as majestic as before! The most special thing here is that you can feed black-bone chickens! ! The staff gave us rice and bread to feed, and the children loved it! Living in the city, I had no idea that black-bone chickens have white feathers. This is really an eye-opener!

Koriyama is not as bustling and prosperous as Tokyo or Kyoto, but because of this, its tranquility and simplicity make people feel the real daily life in Japan. First sight of Koriyama: a combination of city and nature I took the Shinkansen to Koriyama Station. The area around the station was more lively than I had imagined, with complete commercial facilities, but if I walked a little further, I could feel the leisurely atmosphere of the city. The air in Koriyama in winter is fresh, the streets are not crowded, and the mountains in the distance are covered with snow, giving the whole city a healing feel. Rich in natural attractions: Lake Inawashiro and Mt. Bandai This time I went to Lake Inawashiro, the fourth largest lake in Japan. In winter, the lake reflects the snowy scenery of Mount Bandai, which is as beautiful as a postcard! If you come here in winter, you can also see flocks of swans spending the winter there. It is particularly therapeutic to watch them floating quietly on the lake. In summer, this place is suitable for water activities or camping. Mount Bandai is a paradise for mountaineering enthusiasts. Although I didn't challenge it this time due to lack of time, I saw many ski resorts along the way and felt that it would be great to ski there in winter. Although Kitakata City is the authentic birthplace, the ramen restaurants in Koriyama are also of high quality. I went to eat at the famous local "Menya Osuka". Their soy sauce ramen soup is refreshing and not greasy, and paired with handmade thick noodles, it is simple but very layered. In addition, Fukushima's fried pork cutlet rice bowl (ソースカツ丼) is also recommended. The crispy fried pork cutlet is paired with sweet and salty sauce, which is super satisfying! Auberge Suzukane, a hidden detached inn in Bandai Atami Onsen, is truly a hideaway.
