It was a short weekend getaway to Lyon, France. We began our day with a visit to the Basilique Notre-Dame de Fourvière, perched atop a hill overlooking the city. The basilica's stunning architecture, with its mix of Gothic and Byzantine styles, took our breath away. We explored the interior, marveling at the beautiful mosaics and stained-glass windows, then climbed to the observation deck for a panoramic view of Lyon 😍😍😍 📍8 Place de Fourvière, 69005 Lyon, France 💰Free, but a small fee of €3 to access the observation deck We also wandered down to Vieux Lyon, the city’s charming old town. We explored the narrow cobblestone streets lined with Renaissance buildings and discovered some of the city’s famous traboules (hidden passageways). It felt like stepping back in time as we stumbled upon quaint boutiques and hidden courtyards 🙌🙌🙌 In the afternoon, we visited the Musée des Confluences, a fascinating science and anthropology museum located at the confluence of the Rhône and Saône rivers. We explored the diverse exhibits, from dinosaur skeletons to cultural artifacts, and learned so much about the world’s natural and human history. We loved wandering around the beautiful rose gardens 🌹 , visiting the free zoo, and even renting a paddleboat on the lake. The entrance to the impressive Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière was free, and the views of the city from the top were absolutely stunning. ⛪️🌟 We spent some time exploring the Musée des Beaux-Arts, where the €8 entrance fee gave us access to a vast collection of art spanning from ancient times to the modern era. The museum itself, housed in a former abbey, was a marvel. 🎨 After soaking up some culture, we indulged in Lyon’s renowned cuisine at a traditional bouchon. #timetotravel The Basilica is located on the Fouvrière hill, overlooking Lyon and there are 3 ways to get there: 1) To take the tram from Vieux Lyon to Fourvière 2) Hike (~18 mins on foot) 3) By car (~4 mins) I took the 1st option going up and the 2nd option down. I would definitely recommend taking the tram because the tram itself is another attraction in lyon (much like the peak tram in HK). A French restaurant with high cost-effectiveness and great atmosphere! Located next to the ibis hotel, it is a big room with many tables and many customers. We arrived at around 7 and had to wait 15 to 20 minutes. Celebrating a birthday is first class, the waiter will turn off the lights and play the birthday song, and everyone will clap. I have listened to this more than 10 times during one meal. It felt like entering a big restaurant from the 80s. The food quality was good and the portions were large. If there were not many people, you didn't need to order too much.  I just happened to see the sunset when I went there. This is a very classic and different hotel in Lyon named: Cour des Loges Lyon, a member of Radisson Individuals and you NEED to stay at least one night there! The decoration is very unique and you immediately feel there is something special. They have a Michelin star restaurant inside the hotel. 😱 The service is excellent and the room smells so good! My recommendation is for you to walk in the neighborhood from the hotel. It is not in the downtown but there is a lot to discover: All the building near to it are classical and beautiful. This hotel is special. It is carefully decorated with the inspiration of the Little Prince history. We felt very special. The room is beautiful. The view? It looks like the Prince view from his castle. It’s amazing to be able to see the river from your window and the pool is huge and heated. The Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvire is a Catholic sub-temple in Lyon, France. Combining Romanesque and Byzantine architecture, I chose two non-gothic designs that were unusual at the time. With exquisite mosaics, superb window panes, and St. Joseph's basement, it gives me a powerful visual shock. Whether it's murals, glass, domes and columns, everything is intricately crafted. The Notre Dame de Fourviere actually contains two churches. The church is very gorgeous, and the church is very simple. Overlooking the Lyon peninsula on the top of the Riviera, the Rhone River and the Sane River meet here. It is a very good view point. Just spent a cozy winter weekend in Lyon, and I’m officially in love with this underrated gem of France. Cobbled streets, pastel-colored houses, and warm lights glowing from bouchons—everything was pure magic. Lyon in winter is all about comfort and flavor. I tried quenelles, coq au vin, and a heavenly tarte praline—sweet, pink, and utterly addictive. Each meal felt like a warm hug. And don’t even get me started on the hot mulled wine at the Christmas market in Place Carnot—it was the perfect hand-warmer and heart-warmer! One unforgettable moment was standing on Fourvière Hill just before sunset. The whole city was wrapped in a soft winter light, with the Saône River gleaming like silver below. Cold fingers, warm soul. Lyon isn’t flashy—it’s graceful, intimate, and full of stories. If you’re ever in France in winter, skip the crowds in Paris and come here instead. This hotel is located in Lyon, France. It is located in a redeveloped area, a 20-minute walk from Vaise subway station. There are many offices and apartment buildings around the hotel, but there are few people on the roads, and it is a quiet and calm environment. #hostellife From Paris to Geneva, I decided to drop by Lyon for a night and stayed at this hostel. The common area was huge with beautiful decor. But it’s also an area shared with the restaurant operating in the premise, so it can get crowded during lunch hours. One might move to the second floor, where another common area is available. It’s also where the kitchen (with stove and refrigerator) can be found—but it’s closed from midnight to 6am; if you have to leave the hostel earlier than that, do talk to the reception. The mattress was thick and comfy too, but I’ve to say the metal bars at the entrance of the capsule was inhumane, making it hard to reach in after you climbed up. Reflected it to the reception, not sure if things have changed now.
