The experience began with a short drive from the village to the edge of the desert, where I was introduced to my friendly camel guide and my camel for the day. The ride cost about $40 per person, which included the guide, the camel, and even a small meal. Riding a camel isn't the most comfortable experience, but there's something magical about swaying through the desert on the back of one of these gentle creatures. As we made our way into the heart of the dunes, the landscape became more surreal, with endless golden sand stretching as far as the eye could see. If you go to Morocco, you can't miss this! 6 recommended experiences that will make you want to go to Morocco 🇲🇦✨ Speaking of Morocco, cute riads 🧡 The riad I stayed in in Fez was about 4,000 yen per person per night with breakfast included, and it was spacious and the best value for money. The freshly squeezed 100% orange juice you drink in the morning is exceptional! Many riads do not have hair dryers, so be sure to check when making a reservation ⚠️ The blue city "Chefchaouen" was the most fun to take photos of. I was looking forward to it even before I went, and it was even more beautiful than I expected 🥹 It takes 4 hours and 30 minutes by bus from Fez, but it was still fun to arrive at noon and return in the evening. There are also delicious restaurants and cute miscellaneous goods stores, so it's of course recommended to stay and relax! I think "food" is quite important when traveling, and all the Moroccan food was delicious and impressive. The tajine was especially delicious, and I was happy to be able to eat meat and vegetables together 😋 I often ordered tajine, Moroccan salad, and orange juice. At night, many food stalls are set up in Fna Square in Marrakech, and they are famous for their boiled snails 🐌 It was full and very busy, so I tried it. To be honest, it didn't suit my taste, but it was not impossible to eat... it was a memorable experience 😂 The Sahara Desert in Merzouga was worth going to, even if it was a little difficult in terms of schedule 🏜 I arrived from Fez on a 10-hour night bus and was exhausted, but seeing the overwhelming presence of the Sahara Desert made me glad I came. Just a quick note to say what a fabulous 12 day tour I found this to be. If you want to learn about the culture and history of a country as well as seeing some spectacular scenery then this is for you. There is a lot of travelling involved and a few early morning departures but enough time for rest to compensate. Maybe a little more space in the mini-bus would have been nicer as the back 4 seats were a little cramped but there were plenty of breaks during the journeys to from Marrakech to Casablanca, Rabat, Meknes, Fes, Merzouga, Skoura, Tigzha, Ouarzazate, Essaouira and back to Marrakech. Food was good and sometimes exceptional. All accommodation was acceptable and in some cases fantastic. This was my first holiday of this type and I will certainly try another - most likely with Fes.#境外遊

I can’t even put into words how much I loved the three days I spent in this little town in the Sahara Desert. Merzouga is situated near the Algerian border, and is the perfect base from which to experience the culture and beautiful landscapes of the Sahara. But in fact, Merzouga is fairly easy to access, and has plenty of accommodations to make it an easy add to your Morocco itinerary. Riding a camel through the Sahara Desert is something I've always wanted to experience at least once in my life! The sand and dust can be quite intense, so a scarf and sunglasses are essential! (I bought a cactus silk scarf in Fez.) A Berber man helped me wrap the scarf around my head. I stayed at a camp within the Sahara Desert and booked the tour through the camp (hotel). From the camp, I was driven to the camel riding spot, and from there, we crossed the desert to reach the hotel. A Berber man guided the camel for me. At one point, he asked if I wanted to stop to watch the sunset, so we paused for about 15 minutes to take photos and explore. However, since the sunset seemed like it would take a while, we decided to set off early. I've ridden camels in Egypt before, and as long as you're careful when they stand up and sit down, the ride is fairly comfortable. (For reference, I've also ridden horses, donkeys, elephants, and camels!) Opportunities to visit Merzouga might be rare, but it's completely different from the Tottori Sand Dunes in Japan, so I highly recommend trying a camel ride if you get the chance! By the way, since there are many camel tours overlapping in the area, the paths are often littered with camel droppings. 😂

The famous tourist cities are scattered far away from each other, so traveling there takes time and energy, but I would like to introduce you to an experience in Merzouga, a town that you should definitely visit at least once! Merzouga is a town adjacent to the Sahara Desert. ⚠️It takes 7 hours one way from Fez and 9 hours one way to Marrakech by car, so it is difficult to go alone, so I recommend going on a tour! I joined a tour that included one meal per day, accommodation, and a private driver (in English). We departed early in the morning from the eastern town of Fez, and arrived in Merzouga around 4pm after taking a break on the way. 🚌 Merzouga is a city lined with luxury resort accommodations, and you can even stay in a tent at a hotel adjacent to the Sahara Desert. ✨ ↓Here is the hotel we stayed at. 📍Hotel Cafe du Sud Address: Ras el Erg Chebbi, Merzouga 52202, Morocco On the tour, we rode camels through the desert. 🐪 A Berber camel driver will take you to a spot where you can see a beautiful sunset for about an hour. When you ride a camel to a high altitude, you will see the beautiful sunlit Sahara Desert scenery. We were given time to take photos slowly until the sun went down. The quiet and majestic scenery was nothing but moving and healing. ☀️ After the sun went down, we headed to the hotel's dinner venue. The salad and tajine were delicious! The food was by far the tastiest I had during my trip to Morocco 🤤 If you go outside after dinner, you can see a starry sky. I also recommend getting up early in the morning to watch the sunrise. I felt the power of nature that you can't experience in Japan! Morocco is far from Japan, but the view of the Sahara Desert and the unobstructed starry sky are a sight you definitely want to see. Merzouga is a small gateway town for entering the Sahara Desert from Morocco. The town has only one or two main paved roads, with the rest being dirt roads. Our Mercedes-Benz 7-seater carefully maneuvered, swaying from side to side, until we reached the hotel entrance. The hotel is on the western side of town, with the desert directly across from its main gate. I arrived at the hotel just after 4 PM. At 6 PM, an English-speaking young man came to pick us up in a Toyota Land Cruiser to take us camel riding in the desert, which was included in our itinerary. The 4x4 drove along the edge of the desert southward for about twenty minutes until we reached the camel camp. We formed a small camel caravan with two other Spanish-speaking ladies, led by two young men guiding the camels, and headed into the desert... In reality, we didn't travel far - perhaps just ten minutes or so before the caravan stopped and everyone dismounted for free time. Before us stood a massive sand dune which I later learned is called Erg Chebbi, one of the Sahara's famous high dunes at 150 meters tall. From where our caravan stopped, it was still at least 100 meters to the top. It took me 17 minutes to climb to the summit - quite exhausting! In mid-April, sunset occurs at 7:40 PM. The travel agency arranged the camel ride into the desert at this time specifically to watch the desert sunset. Sitting atop the 100+ meter high dune watching the sunset over the sea of sand was truly beautiful! Fearing I might delay the camel caravan's return, I started descending the dune before the sun had completely set. Going down was quick - I slid down in just 5 minutes. By the time I reached the bottom, it was almost dark. We mounted our camels and returned to the camp, where the same Toyota SUV drove us back to the hotel along the same route. We arrived at the hotel at 8:40 PM. No wonder dinner at the hotel only starts at 8:30 PM. It was an excellent desert experience! The only downside was that the camel ride was a bit too short. Tips: Tipping isn't actively solicited. If you do tip, 10 to 20 dirhams is sufficient. The young men guiding the camels consistently took photos for guests, and the SUV driver provided information about the landscapes, flora, and fauna along the way, so I tipped them both.
