2025 Porto Moniz Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in July)

Visited Porto Moniz as part of a west coast trip. There are 2 natural pools there, one is free and the other costs 3 euros, which includes restroom and changing facilities. When we arrived, there was quite a queue, and since we only had 3 hours, we opted for the free pool with no queue. Be careful entering the water as the floor is covered with algae and the water is rocky. Once in, the seawater was refreshingly cool. It was a great experience, and we were glad we chose the free pool since we didn't have time to enjoy the other one. If you can time it right, you'll see waves crashing into the pool! A unique and unforgettable place. However, if we were staying in the area for the whole day, I would definitely choose to pay and use the other pool, rent a sunbed and umbrella. For the two of us, including the entrance fee, 2 sunbeds, and an umbrella, it would only cost 18 euros, which is very reasonable.

An adventurer’s paradise. The island is equipped with many a walk with fantastic viewpoints just around every corner. Personal highlights were from Fanal Forest, where we were treated to a break in the clouds and got to witness just how quickly it can go from thick fog to brilliant sunshine and back again. Seixal beach is one to miss if you’re not a fan over overly touristy beaches. Plus the walk down to the beach passes many people homes and gardens. Not really somewhere set up for the influx of tourists and not ideal if you don’t want to disrupt the local people. Instead he to the Porto Moniz natural rock pools. Very cheap entrance and you are perfectly set up for tourists. Calheta is beautiful, with many fish to see not too far from the sure. It is a perfect location for those who cannot choose between #ocean and #mountains. You can have a long and difficult or short and easy hike of your choice. And the very next day (or later in the evening) spend some lazy time on a beach or in a natural swimming pool (highly recommended). Also even those natural swimming pools where you need to pay are free in the evening! in Madiera you find it all and delicious local food on top. Try ananasbanana there!

I booked a local tour in Madeira and went around half the island There was a place called Porto Moniz on the tour course, and although the weather was a bit cloudy with rain on and off, I was able to see beautiful natural scenery. This beautiful location is located on the Portuguese island of Madeira and offers amazing views of the coast and the sea. I traveled around the area and enjoyed the unique experience of walking the road surrounding the observatory. I explored the beautiful scenery at every corner. There were perfect places to take pictures and capture unforgettable memories. After exploring the observatory, she decided to sit on a bench and enjoy the breathtaking view. The coast surrounding the area was amazing with its unique beauty and rock formations. I felt peace and tranquility and enjoyed the fresh air and the wonderful view.

We drove more than an hour to reach Porto Moniz from Funchal in the island of Madeira, Portugal. It was worth the drive and it was not too difficult. We found the highway in Madeira are very well made and maintained. At Porto Moniz, we found a very unique and beautiful scenery. It is beside the Aquarium of Madeira and seems to be part of the restaurant Cachalote. There are stones that have been shaped by the wave with man made borders that trapped the water, creating a large pond of sea water. You can see the still water in front of the waves, which is very interesting. There are small fish in the pond and people are swimming in it, too, even in December.

Photos of the Volcanic Pools of Porto Moniz, accessible by bus, tour or car the pools are definitely worth a visit when going to Madeira, the food in the area is lovely and Porto Moniz has a great supply of Scabberfish.
