Wat Paknam Phasi Charoen

Wat Paknam Phasi Charoen is home to impressive large-scale structures, including the Phra Buddha Dhammakaya Thep Mongkol, a meditation posture Buddha statue standing 69 meters tall. Completed in 2021, it is the tallest Buddha statue in Bangkok and the third tallest in Thailand. Visitors passing by the area can spot it from afar. Another grand structure is the Phra Maha Chedi Maha Ratchamongkol, completed in 2020. Wat Paknam is an ancient temple dating back to the mid-Ayutthaya period, established by the royal family of the Ayutthaya Kingdom. The temple is situated on a rectangular island surrounded by water on all sides. Its architecture and artifacts, such as the Tripitaka Hall and the Tripitaka cabinets in Busabok style, showcase the craftsmanship of royal artisans during the reign of King Narai the Great. Historically, Wat Paknam played a significant role as a royal monastery outside Ayutthaya and served as a key temple in the coastal frontier towns. Getting there is convenient—take the BTS Skytrain to Bang Wa station, then a short ride to the temple. The structures are sturdy and safe for visitors to explore.
