Beppu Hot Springs Hells Tour

Get a discount off your hells tour tickets from the tourist center at Beppu Station. The friendly staff there also provides handy information about getting around and the bus timings. You can also store your luggage with them, just note that it have to be collected by 5pm. If that may be a bit of a rush, use the lockers that are all around the station. A few of the hot springs have free foot baths, so bring along a small towel if you intend to soak. Take note that it takes around 20 mins to and from the hot springs by bus from the station, so factor sufficient time not to miss your train. Tip: Fastest way to Beppu from Hakata is by Sonic bullet train. #japantrip #kyushu

Hells of Beppu

📍 Address: Hells of Beppu (Jigoku Meguri), Kannawa & Shibaseki area, Beppu, Ōita, Japan 💖 Reasons to Recommend: Felt like another planet—steam roaring out of the ground, a surreal blood-red pool, and a muddy spring that bubbles and plops in slow motion. Easy paths, clear signs, and great viewpoints for photos. Go early: cooler, fewer people, and the steam looks epic in the morning light. 🕰️ Business Hours: Morning–late afternoon (varies by season—check on the day) 🏞️ Ambiance/Facilities: Clean walkways, rest areas, souvenir/snack shops, free toilets, and plenty of photo spots. Sulfur smell is there but not overwhelming. 💰 Average Price per Person: ¥2,000–¥2,500 for the multi-hell pass (individual sites ~¥400–¥500 each) 🗓️ Itinerary Scheduling: Spend 1.5–2 hours. Start at Umi Jigoku (blue pool), then Chinoike Jigoku (red pool), and Oniishibōzu Jigoku (mud bubbles). Pair with Beppu Ropeway or a relaxing onsen afterward. ⭐ Rating: 5/5 — short, unforgettable stop. #hellsofbeppu

Steamy Escapades in Beppu’s Jigoku Meguri 🔥♨️ Journey through Beppu’s legendary “Hells”—a series of dramatic hot springs with bubbling ponds, vivid colors, and otherworldly steam. This experience turns geothermal wonders into a fun, walkable adventure with unique local treats along the way! Start your Jigoku Meguri at the main Hell circuit (Hells of Beppu, 559-1 Kannawa). Arrive early (by 08:00) to explore each hell before crowds build—Umi Jigoku’s cobalt-blue waters are ultra photogenic from the viewing deck, and Oniishibozu Jigoku’s mud bubbles make for quirky selfies. The natural steam billowing everywhere creates ethereal, “insta-worthy” backdrops, especially at Chinoike Jigoku (blood pond). After marveling at the steamy springs, walk over to Jigokumushikobo Kannawa (closed on Wednesdays, check for hours) to sample “hell-steamed” cuisine. Their DIY steam-cooking experience is a must and using the geothermal steam for eggs, veggies, and pudding is both tasty and memorable—best tried after a chilly morning circuit! There is a public Foot Bath (Free) for public!! Just next to restaurant Don’t miss Okamotoya for their creamy steamed pudding; grab it to-go for a delicious photo op against the swirling steam vents. Nice view! Tips: Wear comfortable shoes—paths between hells are short but uneven. Bring a small towel (if not buy @ ¥300), as the steamy air can get muggy. Keep cash handy for tickets (each hells at ¥500 buy at counter) (¥1150 for all seven hells) and snacks, and stick to the marked walkways as steam pools are dangerously hot. Precautions: Don’t touch the hot water! Some hells can get slippery during rain, so watch your step. #Beppu #JigokuMeguri #JapanTravel #Onsen #HiddenGems#mytraveldairy
