Fuxian Lake: A Blue Fairyland Hidden on Earth

Fuxian Lake, nestled in Yuxi City, Yunnan Province, is the deepest plateau freshwater lake in China and the third largest lake in Yunnan by surface area. With a subtropical monsoon climate, it features unique weather characteristics—warm springs with significant drought and summers free from extreme heat. The lake boasts a catchment area of 1,053 square kilometers, a water surface area of approximately 216 square kilometers, a maximum depth of 159 meters, and an average depth of 95 meters. Its water storage capacity reaches 20.6 billion cubic meters, accounting for 68.8% of the total water storage of Yunnan's nine major plateau lakes. Belonging to the Pearl River system, its waters eventually flow into the Nanpan River. As a national 4A-level scenic area, Fuxian Lake Scenic Zone is home to numerous captivating attractions, including Luchong Village, Jieyu Stone, Mingxing Scenic Area, and Gushan Island. For those planning a lakeside tour, the Red Sand Beach is a must-visit hidden gem. During certain seasons, it becomes a paradise for seagulls. Instead of heading straight to the parking lot via navigation, we recommend driving along the road until you spot clusters of local vehicles parked densely by the roadside. Stop here, and after just a 100-meter walk, you'll arrive at the Red Sand Beach, where you can experience the charm of Fuxian Lake up close.
