Peru's Ausangate Pallqa Meadow Glacier Lake Dusk

#sunsetplaces Ausangate (6,384m) is 3h south of Cusco by 4×4 to the Pallqa (Palccoyo side) trailhead at 4,600m, or a 2-day trek from Tinqui. I based at a tambo near the Pallqa meadow (shared dorm 60–80 PEN, cash, no card, dinner 25 PEN), walked out at 4:30 p.m. in May (sunset 5:50). The Pallqa meadow is a flat ichu-grass clearing with three glacier lakes below the west face. At 5:10 the ichu went from yellow-green to a single sheet of copper, the Ausangate west face caught a band of orange that slid upward like a zipper, and the lakes — one turquoise, one ink, one milk-blue from glacial flour — mirrored three different skies at once. A 5 PEN chunk of queso fresco and a flask of coca tea. Mistake: coming in January — cloud deck sits on the peak all afternoon, no glow, 2°C sleet. Another: skipping acclimatization (Cusco 3,400m → 4,600m in one day) — you'll be breathless at the meadow, the sunset waits for no one. Rule: no off-trail walking on the wetland (puna frog habitat, erodes fast); ask before photographing arrieros; pack out all trash, the tambo has no bins. Opinion: Pallqa's glacier-lake dusk is the only sunset in the Andes where the water shows you three versions of the sky — the mountain is one light, the lakes are three opinions. Discussion: when a single peak throws three different colors into three different lakes, which reflection is the "real" sunset?
