The filming locations of "Journey to the West" on Dongshan Island revealed

Recently, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism launched the "Travel with Famous Classics" campaign. Dongshan Island, as a filming location for the 1986 version of "Journey to the West," has become a popular check-in spot. Dongshan Island is where the first episode of "Journey to the West," "The Monkey King's Birth," was filmed, depicting the birth of Wukong. Director Yang Jie chose this location because it features both temples and an endless sea. Ultimately, the Monkey King's "birth" scene was filmed near the Dongshan Wind-Blown Rock Scenic Area by the seaside, at the "Flying Stone" washed by the waves. Although this Flying Stone has been blasted, the nearby Wind-Blown Rock still stands tall. Additionally, some outdoor scenes of the first episode, where the "Monkey King" paddles a bamboo raft across the sea to study, were shot at Gongqian Bay on Dongshan Island. At that time, the waves were strong and protective measures were limited. Since Liu Xiaolingtong could not paddle the bamboo raft, the crew hired fishermen as stunt doubles to complete the filming. The sixth episode, "Trouble at Guanyin Temple," was filmed at Baozhi Temple, which had not yet been renovated at the time. Visiting Dongshan Island, tourists can experience the scenes from the classic novel firsthand, as if traveling back into the world of "Journey to the West," gaining a novel and interesting experience.
