Just got back from suffering in Foshan, really don't recommend visiting in July, because it's so "sinfully" captivating that you won't want to leave once you're there - afraid you'll become too attached to this treasure of a city! I don't recommend July because you might get instantly charmed by the ancient architecture in Lingnan Tiandi, strolling along tree-shaded paths without feeling summer's heat at all. The arcades and wok-ear houses are so full of character that you'll lose track of time while exploring. I don't recommend July because you might visit Nanfeng Ancient Kiln and have too much fun in the world of pottery. The indoor coolness and focused ceramic-making will make the summer heat disappear completely. Plus you can bring kids along for creative family bonding, accidentally spending an utterly delightful day. I don't recommend July because you might enter Qinghui Garden - this Lingnan-style garden with pavilions, towers, clear waters and green trees is so tranquil and cool. Wandering through it with the sound of murmuring streams, you'll feel transported to paradise with summer heat instantly vanishing. I don't recommend July mostly because after tasting double-skin milk, fish skin, rice noodle rolls and other delicious snacks, you won't be able to stop. Enjoying these treats in air-conditioned comfort is simply summer's ultimate joy. I don't recommend July also because after experiencing Foshan's cultural charm, you might get infected by its leisurely vibe and become reluctant to leave. So unless you're prepared to be deeply enchanted by Foshan and never want to depart, really don't come in July - otherwise you'll end up like me, constantly yearning for this city that's both a summer retreat and endlessly entertaining!
