Hwangridan-gil: A Trendy Alley in the Historic City of Gyeongju

When visiting Gyeongju, it's not just about ancient relics and history; there's also a trendy new landmark that will catch your eye—Hwangridan-gil (황리단길). Located near Daereungwon Tomb Complex, this street was once a quiet old neighborhood. In recent years, it has gained fame as old houses have been transformed into cafes, boutique stores, and unique shops, making it one of the favorite walking routes for young people. Strolling along Hwangridan-gil, you'll find traditional hanok-style buildings on one side and stylishly designed cafes on the other, creating a charming blend of old and new. I particularly enjoy exploring the small shops in the alleys, each with its own unique character. Some even hide secret dessert spots and fragrance brands that are worth discovering at a leisurely pace. One of my favorite photos was taken when I stumbled upon a little kitten nestled in a traditional soy sauce jar in one of the alleys—it was absolutely adorable ☺️. This area is perfect for photography. Whether it's the street views, shopfronts, or the coffee in your hand, everything exudes a chic, artsy vibe. When you're tired from walking, just pick a cafe you like, sit down, and watch the pedestrians pass by outside the window. It's a chance to experience a different side of Gyeongju. Hwangridan-gil is the most vibrant corner of this ancient city and my favorite spot for a leisurely stroll in Gyeongju.
