Singaporean Flavors Buffet at Cafe Lagoon

Singapore has always been a place I never considered visiting due to its hot weather! However, I absolutely love its local cuisine. Luckily, living in Hong Kong allows us to enjoy Singaporean delicacies. This evening, I gathered with friends for a lavish buffet feast. Last Sunday night, my friends and I visited Cafe Lagoon at Hong Kong Gold Coast Hotel for a buffet dinner! To celebrate Singapore's 60th National Day, the restaurant introduced a Singaporean-themed buffet, which thrilled my Singaporean food-loving friend. Let me take you on a tour of the Singaporean Flavors Buffet! The Singaporean dishes included Bak Kut Teh, Crispy Oatmeal Shrimp, Curry Beef Brisket, Spicy Singapore Fried Rice, and Hainanese Chicken Rice—all classic and well-known Singaporean specialties. Moving on to the Western hot dishes section! Leading the lineup were Slow-Roasted Wagyu Shoulder and Glazed Ham, followed by Korean Grilled Chicken, Black Truffle Mashed Potatoes, Red Wine Braised Wagyu Cheek, Salmon Head, and Tomato Soup. This station also offered a must-try Wagyu Sukiyaki for beef lovers. In the Chinese hot dishes section, there were Steamed Whole Grouper, Baby Cabbage with Jinhua Ham, Golden Prawns, Sweet and Sour Pork, Shrimp Lotus Leaf Rice, and Matsutake Mushroom and Ham Pork Rib Soup. Further along, there were exotic dishes like Cinnamon Pumpkin, Thai Fish Cakes, and Fried Onion Rings. The salad bar offered a variety of fresh options with great quality! Choices included Honey Mustard Potato and Egg Salad, Rojak Salad, Korean Eggplant Salad, Thai Glass Noodle Salad, and Pumpkin Salad. Cheese lovers could enjoy three types of cheese, along with my favorites—Parma Ham, Melon, Norwegian Smoked Salmon, and the salad bar. Next was the much-anticipated chilled seafood section! It featured clams, prawns, scallops, snow crab legs, jade whelks, and mussels for unlimited selection. The Japanese section offered fresh sashimi, including sweet shrimp, razor clams, ark shell, snapper, yellowtail, and salmon, along with various sushi and rolls. If you've read my previous buffet reviews, you'll remember the outdoor BBQ section! Now available on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays, it serves a range of charcoal-grilled delights. Highlights included Charcoal-Roasted Suckling Pig, Grilled Chicken Wings, Grilled Lamb Chops, Grilled Prawns, Grilled Pineapple, Grilled Eggplant, and Sausages, as well as my favorite Chicken Satay. For a healthier option, you could enjoy freshly blanched vegetables, and to finish, there was Hawaiian Pizza. The dessert section featured a variety of treats stored in chilled cabinets! Options included Black Forest Cake, Coconut Black Glutinous Rice, Mixed Berry Mousse Cake, Passion Fruit Mousse Cake, Pumpkin Tart, and Strawberry Napoleon. Around the corner, there were Portuguese Egg Tarts, freshly made Pandan Waffles, Häagen-Dazs Ice Cream Cups, and fresh-cut fruits. Another dessert corner offered kids' favorites like Chocolate Fountain, Rainbow Jelly Candy, Cupcakes, Black Sugar Black Sesame Mochi, Mango Pudding, and Caramel Popcorn. The beverage station included draft beer, Milo Dinosaur, iced water, iced tea, fresh lemon slices, canned sodas, and a self-service coffee machine—drink as much as you like! After completing the food tour, my stomach was already complaining—it was time to dig in! I started with a refreshing glass of iced lemon tea with less sugar. First, I had a plate of self-selected appetizers and salads! It was super rich and perfect for laying a foundation so I wouldn't eat too much later. The chilled seafood was fresh, and my favorite was the snow crab legs—the sweet crab meat was incredibly delicious. The Rojak Salad was also my favorite of the night, full of Singaporean flavors and perfectly fitting the theme. The sashimi looked glossy and fresh! The ark shell was especially crunchy and sweet—absolutely delightful. For hot dishes, I started with a bowl of Singaporean-style Bak Kut Teh. The authentic flavor with peppery spiciness was warming and comforting. The Hainanese Chicken had tender skin, juicy meat, and fragrant rice—truly delicious. I also enjoyed a piece of crispy oatmeal shrimp, which was very satisfying. Next, I indulged in my favorite BBQ dishes! It was my first time trying the charcoal-roasted suckling pig here—the sesame-crusted skin was aromatic, but I preferred the juicy meat. The grilled chicken wings were the best I've ever had—full of smoky flavor, slightly sweet skin, and tender, juicy meat. I couldn't resist having two wings, and the other BBQ items were also of high quality. The chicken satay was another must-try. At this point, I had a bowl of Matsutake Mushroom and Ham Pork Rib Soup! The broth was rich and flavorful—if you have room, you must try it. Feeling quite satisfied, I couldn't resist trying the freshly steamed whole grouper. The fish was tender and smooth, surprisingly well-prepared for a buffet. For Western dishes, I sampled the salmon head and my favorite mashed potatoes. The most surprising dish was the rich tomato soup—it was tangy, sweet, and very appetizing. Finally, it was dessert time, and I was already full! I shared a piece of pandan waffle with vanilla ice cream with my friend—the hot and cold combination was irresistibly tempting, though it added to the calories. Buffet guests can also purchase handmade "Pineapple Tarts" at a 40% discount for $138. I had tried them before—they were golden, crispy, tangy, and truly delicious. The Singapore Diamond Jubilee-themed buffet dinner is priced at $738 per person from Monday to Friday and $798 per person on weekends and public holidays. Guests who book online and pay in full can enjoy a buy-one-get-one-free offer (limited quantity, while stocks last). The discounted weekend price is only $478.8 per person—an incredible deal! Available now through August 31.
