Ping Chau's blue sky, white clouds and porcelain paintings

It's a beautiful day, perfect for a short trip to enjoy the blue skies and white clouds. Depart from Central Pier 6 to Ping Chau. For a touch of artistic flair, consider a porcelain painting workshop. Chaoji Porcelain was founded in 1975 by the Lams. They initially manufactured porcelain, but now sell and offer painting workshops. Mrs. Lam explains and demonstrates porcelain painting. The shop features Mrs. Lam's artwork, featuring flowers, birds, insects, fish, auspicious landscapes, and a subtle palette of 10 colors. I chose to paint flowers on a 7-inch plate. The two-hour class, filled with concentration and laughter, white space and color, felt like a leisurely stroll back to art class. Mrs. Lam will fire the finished piece, and it's usually available for pick-up in the shop about two weeks later, or she can arrange for delivery to your home.
