Izakayas that bring back memories of your trip to Japan

Sesame Tofu $22 Pork and Egg Roll $42 Sweet Potato Tempura with Rum Raisin Cream $88 Sushi Platter $138 Hakata Mentaiko and Beef Intestine Hot Pot $398 Additional Ramen $38 Jumbo Prawns $78 Bacon and Potato Salad with Mentaiko and Cheese $38 Bacon and Potato Salad with Wasabi Cream $38 Taste Index: 😋😋😋😋😋 Value Index: 💲💲💲💲💲 Environment Comfort: 😌😌😌😌😌 Cleanliness: 🧹🧹🧹🧹🧹 Service Quality: 💁🏼♀️💁🏼♀️💁🏼♀️💁🏼♀️💁🏼♀️ Looking through photos from my previous trip to Osaka 🧳, I missed kushiage (deep-fried skewers). I found out this Japanese izakaya in Causeway Bay serves kushiage, so I decided to try it. There were quite a few options; I chose eight dishes. Each diner could also choose one of the three appetizers. From the various kushiage options, I chose two. Both dishes were fried to a crispy finish. The sesame tofu was tender and soft. The egg in the pork and egg roll was runny, and the yolk flowed all over your mouth. The sweet potato in the sweet potato tempura with rum and raisin cream was dense and soft. The rum and raisin cream had a rich, layered flavor, combining the aromas of butter, wine, and the sweetness of raisins. The sushi platter included five pieces of sushi, all of which were incredibly fresh. My favorite was the red shrimp sushi, which was sweet and savory, with the shrimp heads filled with shrimp paste. The large shrimp in the golden brown jellyfish had a crispy exterior. The shrimp were fresh and crisp, with a rich shrimp flavor without any fishy smell. A few drops of lemon juice greatly enhanced the umami. The two dishes were incredibly creative, replacing the traditional red bean filling with a bacon and potato salad with mentaiko cheese and a bacon and potato salad with wasabi cream. The bacon 🥓 potato salad had a smooth texture. The mentaiko cheese had a salty and spicy kick. The wasabi cream had a subtle pungent kick, adding a nice tingle. The Hakata mentaiko beef intestine hotpot with miso soup brought back memories of my trip to Kyushu. The broth was rich yet not greasy. The intestines were tender yet slightly chewy. The sweet sprouts and cabbage in the pot, along with the extra springy ramen 🍜, fully absorbed the essence of the hotpot. The high quality of the food perfectly explains why the restaurant was always packed, and why some of the diners were Japanese. —— Kushi Kazu Specialty Store JunG39 JAPAN 📬17/F, Wing Kwong Commercial Building, 499 Hennessy Road, Causeway Bay #CausewayBay #Kushi Kazu #Kushi Kazu Specialty Store #CausewayBayFood #MidnightDiner
