Kaiping Diaolou, Jiangmen

Kaiping Diaolou is a national key cultural relic protection site. 2. Kaiping Diaolou is a multi-story tower-style vernacular building integrating defense and residence. It originated in the late Ming Dynasty and reached its peak in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. 3. The most prominent feature of Kaiping Diaolou is its integration of foreign architectural styles, blending Chinese and Western architectural art to form a unique style. It stands as a testament to the close integration of Chinese immigrant culture with diverse cultures worldwide. 4. Ruishi Lou is the most representative building among the Kaiping Diaolou. The mahogany furniture on each floor is truly impressive. The calligraphy on the door panels (p2-6) is quite interesting, and I especially like the couplet on the door of the first-floor hall (p2): "Walking leisurely, free from worldly affairs, with a peaceful mind, nourishing one's life." The shooting holes designed for defense are also ingenious (p7-9). The entire building is sturdy and practical, with a wide field of vision, combining living and defense functions, and boasting a unique style. It truly deserves to be a representative work of Kaiping Diaolou.
