Kamakura🇯🇵Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine

Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine and Usa-Iwashimizu Hachimangu Shrine are two of the representative Hachimangu Shrines in Japan. In 1063, after Minamoto no Yoriyoshi pacified Oshu and returned to Kamakura, he made a request to Iwashimizu Hachimangu Shrine to build Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine in Yuigahama and named it Tsurugaoka Wakamiya. In 1180, Minamoto no Yoriyoshi came to the Kamakura shogunate and moved the shrine to Kitayama in Kobayashi-go (its current location). Then in 1191, the shrine was expanded on the hillside of Daibutsuyama behind the shrine, and the new Iwashimizu Hachimangu Shrine was again invited to form the current upper and lower shrines. From that time on, Tsurugaoka Hachiman became the patron saint of the Genji clan and was revered as the guardian of the Mumon clan. The current Hongu Shrine was rebuilt by Tokugawa Ienari in 1828 and is designated as an important cultural property of Japan along with the Wakamiya Hachiman Shrine. The main gods are: Emperor Ongami, Hibishin, and Empress Jingo. Regular festival date: September 15th. Inside the palace are Aisha Wakamiya, Suejia Takeuchi Shrine, Maruyama Inari Shrine, Hakuhata Shrine, Zurei Shrine, and Hatagami Benzaiten Shrine.
