The final stretch is a narrow gravel road, so it's best to arrive early on weekends/holidays as both the main and backup parking lots fill up quickly. 📝Personal Experience Initially, I thought this was just an ordinary coastal trail, but as I ascended, I was greeted by unexpectedly breathtaking views. Parking near the beach, it only takes a few minutes of walking to reach the trailhead. The path is lined with wooden boardwalks and stairs, and within 30–40 minutes of climbing to the 240-meter summit, you can enjoy a 360-degree view of Manukau Harbor, the Waitākere Ranges, and the black sands of Whatipū Beach. My favorite moment was resting at the first lookout point, where a gentle breeze brushed my face, the distant sound of waves echoed, and the soft light of the sunset created a serene atmosphere. Continuing upward, after tackling another stretch of stairs, you reach the main peak. Looking back from there, the scenery is like a painting, and standing atop what feels like volcanic remnants, you are reminded of your smallness in the vastness of nature. 👣 The trail is not a loop, so most hikers return the same way unless traveling with multiple cars. While the trail is moderately challenging with occasional rugged rocks, it is well-equipped with signposts and handrails along the way. The overall pace is just right—enough to get moving while also allowing time to catch your breath and take in the views. Highly recommended for travelers seeking a bit of challenge without overexertion, and wanting to enjoy both coastal and mountain scenery in one trip.
