[Okinawa] Shuri Castle, the symbol of the Ryukyu Kingdom, currently undergoing reconstruction after a fire

Shuri Castle is a historic castle located in Naha City, Okinawa Prefecture, which was the political and cultural center during the Ryukyu Kingdom era. It is characterized by its red tiled roofs and was registered as a World Heritage Site in 2000. However, the main hall and other buildings were destroyed in a fire on October 31, 2019, causing great shock and sadness to the people of Okinawa. Restoration is currently underway. When I visited, restoration was in the process of being carried out little by little. Nevertheless, I felt the strong spirit of Shuri Castle from the remaining stone walls and the efforts being made to rebuild.
