Bang Nam Phueng Floating Market is located in Phra Pradaeng District of Samut Prakan Province, about a 30 to 40-minute drive from downtown Bangkok. It is near Bang Krachao, often referred to as Bangkok's "green lung." Established in 2004 by local residents, the market was created to sell surplus agricultural products, promote tourism, and protect the natural ecosystem of Bang Krachao. Although it is called a "floating market," Bang Nam Phueng Floating Market differs from traditional boat-based markets. Most transactions occur at land-based stalls, with only a few boats docked along the canal selling food. Situated in a remote area, the market primarily serves local residents and sees few foreign tourists. It is open only on weekends, starting at 8 AM and closing around 4 PM. The name "Bang Nam Phueng" translates to "Land of Honey" in Thai, derived from the area's historical abundance of honey production. It is said that people have been living here for over 200 years, with the population consisting mainly of Thai, Mon, and Chinese communities engaged in agriculture, handicrafts, and small-scale commerce. Compared to other famous floating markets in Bangkok, Bang Nam Phueng Floating Market is more low-key and localized, offering goods at relatively lower prices. In addition to food stalls, the market features several small restaurants and coffee stands where visitors can sit back and enjoy delicious meals.
