Having just returned from the bustling and modern marvels of Dubai, where the desert meets the city, I was eager to embark on a completely different journey with my parents back in my hometown of Ningbo. After much thought, I decided that the East Lake Scenic Area and the South Riverside Historical and Cultural Street in Pinghu would be the perfect destinations. The charm of Jiangnan's water towns seemed like the ideal setting for a leisurely family getaway. We opted for a road trip, enjoying a relaxed and pleasant drive as our car slowly made its way to Pinghu. Along the way, my parents gazed out at the ever-changing scenery with anticipation written all over their faces. I described the places we were about to visit—the shimmering waters of East Lake and the historic charm of South Riverside Street—which only heightened their excitement. Upon arriving in Pinghu, we headed straight to the Qi Ju Ji Hotel, which we had booked in advance. The hotel’s prime location, close to both East Lake and South Riverside, made it incredibly convenient for our plans. Stepping into the hotel, we were greeted by a minimalist yet cozy decor that immediately caught our eye. Not far away, the unique lotus-shaped architecture of the Li Shutong Memorial Hall caught our attention. Inside, the photos and exhibits vividly narrated the legendary life of Master Li Shutong, deepening our admiration and respect for this remarkable figure. Leaving the memorial hall, we continued along the lakeside and arrived at Nan Village Book Stack. The serene environment seemed to echo the scenes of scholars reading and debating in days gone by. Climbing the Nine Peaks Panorama Tower, we were treated to a breathtaking view of East Lake. The shimmering lake surface, the rolling hills in the distance, and the blue sky dotted with white clouds came together to form a stunning landscape painting. My parents stood atop the tower, their faces glowing with happiness as they marveled at the beauty around them. As dusk fell, we headed to the South Riverside Historical and Cultural Street. The moment we stepped into the street, we were enveloped by its antique charm. The old street, built along the river, featured restored historic houses, with red lanterns casting a warm glow that transported us back in time. After dinner, we leisurely strolled along the stone-paved streets of South Riverside, soaking in the tranquility and beauty of the night. By the riverside, numerous teahouses and small shops beckoned. We randomly chose a teahouse, ordered a pot of tea, and sat down to savor the moment. Watching the small bridges and flowing water outside the window, accompanied by the gentle sound of the stream, all the day’s fatigue melted away. My parents reminisced about the past, their faces soft with nostalgia, while I quietly listened, cherishing this rare moment of family bonding. The next morning, I woke up feeling refreshed in the hotel’s comfortable bed. After breakfast, we revisited South Riverside, which presented a completely different charm in the daylight. The sunlight bathed the ancient buildings, enhancing their timeless allure. This road trip to Pinghu after returning from Dubai was made unforgettable by my parents’ company, the comfort of Qi Ju Ji Hotel, and the stunning scenery and delicious food of East Lake and South Riverside. It was not just a journey but also a rejuvenation of the soul and a deepening of family bonds. In the future, I hope to take my parents to even more places and create more beautiful memories together.
