Legend has it that in the eighth year of Yuanfeng of the Song Dynasty, Mr. and Mrs. Li Pan prayed for a child at the Guanyin Pavilion on Meifeng, and their wish was granted with the birth of the notable Li Fu. Afterwards, Li Fu's mother, Mrs. Huang, expressed her gratitude by donating over a hundred acres of land to expand the pavilion into a temple, which became the earliest Meifeng Temple. Supported by the Li family and the Song Dynasty government, Meifeng Guangxiao Temple was expanded several times, with majestic halls, becoming one of the four major monasteries in Putian. - ⛩ Meifeng Temple, also known as Meifeng Guangxiao Temple, is located on Shengli North Street in Chengxiang District, Putian City. It is one of the four major monasteries in Putian and is one of the key temples opened to the public by the State Council in the first batch. - 📍 Meifeng, formerly known as Meizi Ridge, was named for the plum trees planted all over the mountain. A Guanyin Pavilion was built at the beginning of the Song Dynasty, and in the eighth year of Yuanfeng (1085), the pavilion was expanded into a temple. In the second year of Chongning (1103), Emperor Huizong of Song personally inscribed the plaque 'Meilin Buddhacountry', and the following year, he bestowed the plaque 'Suining Zen Temple'. In the twelfth year of Shaoxing (1142), it was renamed Meifeng Guangxiao Temple, a name that has been used to this day. Every year from February to March, the plum blossoms in Meifeng Temple bloom in succession, filling the garden with flowers, spring colors, and a splendor like clouds, with the ancient temple set against the plum blossoms, exuding an ancient charm.
