🥝🍯🥛 The Alexandra Bridge (also known as the Old Bridge Wharf) in Alexandra, South Island, New Zealand, is a historic site in the Otago region. Built in 1879 and opened in 1882, it spanned the Clutha River, New Zealand's highest-volume and second-longest river. At the time, it was one of the largest and strongest bridges in New Zealand, as well as the longest suspension bridge, serving as crucial infrastructure during the 19th-century gold rush and reflecting the engineering prowess of New Zealand's colonial era. Due to its inability to meet modern traffic demands, the bridge deck and steel cables were dismantled in 1958. The remaining structures, including the piers, stone pier clusters, and concrete foundations, were named "Old Bridge Wharf" and designated as a nationally significant historic site in New Zealand. It is also a stunningly scenic spot. Located between Queenstown and Dunedin, its remote location makes it less known among Chinese travelers, with only those on self-drive trips having the chance to admire its beauty.
