A 10-day Hokkaido trip: Otaru romance, Sapporo gourmet food, Furano flower sea, Toyako fireworks, and Hakodate atmosphere all in one go!

This 10-day trip to Hokkaido, departing from New Chitose Airport, took in Otaru, Sapporo, Furano, Lake Toya, and Hakodate. Whether exploring the natural beauty, cityscapes, or culinary delights, the experience was truly rewarding. Our first stop upon arrival was Otaru. We strolled along the iconic Otaru Canal, which is especially romantic when illuminated by gas lamps at night. The food stalls along Detate-koji Road were bustling with activity, and the night illuminations at the Fairy Crossing were a must-see. We ascended the Shukutsu Panorama Observatory for breathtaking views of the coastline and visited the fascinating Otaru Aquarium. As for dining, the Wakaji Times roasted half chicken lived up to its reputation, boasting crispy skin and juicy meat. The Kameju bread and Kitakaro desserts were both delightful surprises. The seven-colored soft serve ice cream at Kitaichi Glass Building No. 3 was eye-catching and uniquely flavorful. We visited the Music Box Hall Main Building to browse for souvenirs and admire the charming music box exhibits. At night, take the Tenguyama Cable Car, visit Tenguyama Shrine, and ascend to the observation deck for a truly romantic night view of Otaru. Then we'll travel to Sapporo. Our first stop is Donbei at Nijo Market, where we'll savor a hearty seafood donburi (unbelievably fresh). For sweets, the Majisand fruit sandwiches are refreshing and adorable, while the roasted corn at Odori Park is fragrant. City attractions like Shiroi Koibito Park and Sapporo TV Tower are worth a visit. For a unique experience, visit Es Con Field to experience the vibrant atmosphere of Japanese ballparks. Suwa Shrine and Hokkaido Jingu Shrine offer a solemn religious atmosphere. The lush greenery of Hokkaido University is perfect for a stroll. We'll explore Tanukikoji Shopping Street and the Pokémon Center Sapporo, where we'll stumble upon the adorable Ghikawa shop. Sweets lovers shouldn't miss Rokkatei, while the Sapporo Beer Museum offers a glimpse into Hokkaido beer culture. Finally, we ascended to the JR T38 Observation Deck, offering a breathtaking night view. The transparent glass restrooms were a delightful addition to the trip. The third leg of the journey was the dreamy Furano. From Harudai Park, we could overlook the mountain scenery. The "Roller Coaster Road" was straight and majestic, offering endless views along the way. The most dreamy sight was the Blue Pond, its water a dreamy blue, making it a popular iPhone wallpaper. We also enjoyed blue soda ice cream, enjoying the view while savoring it. The all-you-can-eat cantaloupe lunch was a highlight. Enjoy all-you-can-eat premium cantaloupe, along with a buffet featuring corn soup, cold udon, and yakiniku. It was a truly satisfying value. In the afternoon, we visited Furano Farm, where vast flower fields were still in full bloom, and the fragrance of lavender filled the air. The dried flower decorations within the farm are a perfect spot for arty enthusiasts. Finally, the Fairy Terrace felt like a fairytale world, with handicrafts sold in cabins nestled in the forest, creating a dreamy atmosphere. The fourth stop was romantic Lake Toya. The spring water at Anmei Water Park is icy and sweet, and free access is a thoughtful touch. The Toyako Observatory offers expansive views, and you can buy the same rich and delicious yogurt you'd find in a five-star hotel. Lake Hill Farm is a must-see, offering stunning mountain views and pudding and sea salt ice cream. Next, visit Showa Shinzan to experience the awe of an active volcano up close. A leisurely evening stroll by the lakeside includes a chance encounter with a lively dance performance by Hokkaido university students. Finally, the Lake Toya fireworks display is a highlight of the trip, with the vibrant reflections of the fireworks on the lake. The romantic daily displays are unforgettable. The final stop is the exotic city of Hakodate. Goryokaku Park and Goryokaku Tower offer spectacular views of the five-pointed star castle, while Daimon Yokocho's tavern is filled with a warm and welcoming atmosphere at night. The local must-try is the generous and affordable Lucky Joker Burger. The Kanemori Red Brick Warehouse exudes a hipster vibe, and the Hachimanzaka slopes are a classic photo spot. After visiting Gokoku Shrine and Hachimangu Shrine, we finally stopped at the Hakodate Morning Market to enjoy fresh seafood. Unni, crab, and squid were all incredibly fresh and sweet, bringing the trip to a perfect end. This 10-day Hokkaido trip was filled with surprises at every stop, from the romantic canals of Otaru and the bustling culinary scene of Sapporo to the flower fields and Blue Pond in Furano, the fireworks of Lake Toya, and the exotic charm of Hakodate.
