Shanghai Natural History Museum

Shanghai Natural History Museum, one of the largest natural history museums in China, has been open for over 65 years since its establishment in 1956. It has served as a significant educational hub for the people of Shanghai across generations. The museum houses an impressive collection of over 240,000 items, including 62,000 animal specimens, 135,000 plant specimens, 1,700 ancient fossils, and 1,700 mineral samples. Many of these specimens are rare or endemic to China, such as the Huang River mammoth, the giant salamander, the giant panda, and the Chinese alligator from the Yangtze River. The highlight of the museum is the massive fossil of the Mamenchisaurus hochuanensis from Sichuan Province, which stands as tall as a four-story building. This makes the museum a grand and awe-inspiring destination. Despite its grandeur, the entrance fee is very affordable, costing only 30 yuan (approximately 150 Thai baht).
