Listen to the Yue opera among the towering cliffs, and drift through East Lake on a Wupeng boat.

East Lake has precipitous cliffs and deep pools formed from quarrying since the Han Dynasty. In the late Qing Dynasty, Tao Junxuan, the 45th-generation descendant of Tao Yuanming, a famous scholar from Kuaiji, built a dam to enclose the lake, forming East Lake. After more than a hundred years of decoration by several generations, East Lake has mountains, water, rocks, caves, bridges, dikes, boats, flowers, trees, pavilions, and towers, making it a Jiangnan garden that integrates elegance, danger, majesty, and wonder. There are attractions such as Tao Gong Cave and Xiantao Cave in the lake; the shadows of the rocks in the green pool and the sound in the empty valley are incredibly beautiful. It is known as the "No. 1 Water and Rock Bonsai in the World" and is one of the three famous lakes in Zhejiang. 📝Scenic Area Route Tips: East Lake Scenic Area is actually very small. There are three routes from the North Gate to the farthest end of the scenic area: 1️⃣After entering the park, walk along the leftmost road, keeping close to the white wall (photo 20). You can reach the farthest end of the scenic area in about 1 km. The road is flat and suitable for tourists who do not have the energy and are unwilling to spend money. 2️⃣Take a Wupeng boat on the waterway. It costs CNY 60 for a one-way trip for a boat of 4 people. This is a tour route that saves effort and has a good view. It is generally recommended to walk in and then take a boat back at the far end. 3️⃣After entering the scenic area, walk to the far right, you can climb the mountain. Although it takes effort and the slope is very steep, there are certain risks, but as the saying goes, the most beautiful scenery is always at the top (photos 4–10).
