The Stone Forest (石林

The Stone Forest (石林) near Kunming is a remarkable geological formation. Aeons of sedementation, erosion and volcanic eruption have left sharp, jagged pillars of stone rather like trees, which rise singly and in groves over a large plain. Whether looking down from above or walking through cave-like passages between the rocks, marvel at the alien landscape nature's forces have left. I highly recommend bringing a picnic lunch, as there are no places to get food in or around the park aside from some expensive and unappetizing snacks. It's worth setting aside a whole day for Shilin, as the park is large and there are many different views.
