🛡️ A Day at Sutton Hoo – Walking in the Footsteps of Anglo-Saxon Royalty

Today we explored Sutton Hoo, one of the most significant archaeological sites in England. Located in Suffolk, this ancient burial ground is where a 7th-century Anglo-Saxon ship was discovered—believed to belong to a powerful king, possibly King Rædwald of East Anglia. The on-site exhibition hall displays incredible artefacts (including replicas of the iconic warrior helmet, weapons, and gold treasures), giving you a glimpse into the craftsmanship and mystery of early medieval England. The real treasures are housed at the British Museum, but the storytelling at Sutton Hoo brings it all to life. 🗺️ You can also walk the burial mounds trail, with views across the River Deben, where the ship may have been hauled from. It’s a peaceful and atmospheric place, especially if you’re into history, archaeology, or nature. 🕰️ Allow 2–3 hours to explore fully. There’s a lovely café on-site and plenty of outdoor space to enjoy, even with dogs (on leads). 🎟️ Entry is free for National Trust members.
