Taitung, Taiwan

Taitung is a city in Taitung County, Taiwan, located on the southeastern coast of Taiwan facing the Pacific Ocean. It is the most populous administrative area in Taitung County and one of the major cities along the eastern coast of the island. During the Japanese rule, the city was named Taitō. After Japan handed over Taiwan to the Republic of China in 1945, the city was renamed Taitung in Chinese.
