Phra That Phanom Woramahawihan Temple, Nakhon Phanom

Phra That Phanom, a sacred religious site in the Northeast, is a sacred relic that represents the prosperity of Buddhism in Nakhon Phanom since ancient times. It was built at the beginning of the Buddhist era around 8 B.E. during the time when the Sri Khotrabun Kingdom flourished. It is enshrined on Phu Kham Pra standing tall on the banks of the Mekong River. It is a place where the Buddha once came to teach the little ones. According to the legend of the Urankathu, it is said that Phra Maha Kassapa and 500 Arahants brought the Urankathu (chest bone) of the Lord Buddha from Jambudvipa and the five rulers of the city presided over the construction of the enshrined Urankathu, which is where Phra That Phanom is located today. In addition to the relics enshrined in the chedi, there are also tens of thousands of valuable items, especially the golden umbrella on top of the chedi, which weighs 110 kilograms. The chedi currently has a base 12.33 meters wide on each side and a height of 53.60 meters. It is a tall, square-shaped pagoda that looks elegant.
