Tiger Leaping Gorge, Diqing Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province Tiger Leaping Gorge, world-renowned for its dramatic drop in elevation, is located east of Tiger Leaping Gorge Town in Shangri-La County. It is divided into three sections: Upper, Middle, and Lower Tiger Leaping, stretching approximately 20 kilometers. The Jinsha River lies in the middle of the gorge, flanked by the Yulong and Haba Snow Mountains. The river's narrowest point is only 20 to 30 meters, yet the dramatic drop creates a turbulent flow. Tiger Leaping Gorge is also a world-renowned hiking destination, attracting thousands of outdoor enthusiasts each year. Upper Tiger Leaping Gorge is the most visited section. Entering the area from the Shangri-La section requires descending a 100-meter stone staircase. Below, a viewing platform with a transparent floor offers stunning views of the river and Tiger Leaping Rock. Entering from the Lijiang section requires a 2.6-kilometer plank road, which is relatively smooth and offers diverse views of the Jinsha River. Middle Tiger Leaping Gorge is approximately 5 kilometers from Upper Tiger Leaping Gorge. The dramatic drop in the river's surface creates a spectacular spectacle. From Middle Tiger Leaping Gorge, you can cross a slippery slab to enter Lower Tiger Leaping Gorge, a 1-kilometer-deep ravine near the exit of Tiger Leaping Gorge. This is the perfect spot to admire the gorge.
