Damei Ancient Waterfront Residential Complex

Damei Ancient Village is located on the bank of Nanxi River in Jiulong River, two kilometers away from the exit of Shenhai Expressway to Zhangzhou Port. It is surrounded by Jilong Mountain, Damao Mountain, and Eshan Mountain. The ancient village is surrounded by water on all four sides, and ancient banyan trees are everywhere. Damei Ancient Village is the largest and best-preserved ancient residential complex in Longhai District, Zhangzhou City, and is known as the "First Village in Southern Fujian". It has been rated as the sixth batch of national historical and cultural villages and the third batch of traditional villages in China. Damei Ancient Village in Dongyuan Town, Longhai District, Zhangzhou City is a model of "Southern Fujian Red Brick Architecture Group", located on the bank of Nanxi River in Jiulong River, two kilometers away from the exit of Shenhai Expressway to Zhangzhou Port, surrounded by Jilong Mountain, Damao Mountain, and Eshan Mountain. The Damei Ancient Waterfront Residential Complex has three main features: first, it has a long history, it has a history of 560 years since the Jingtai period of the Ming Dynasty; the second feature is that it is relatively large in scale with a total of 276 houses; the third feature is that it is neatly arranged, with new and old orderly arranged, and the hard mountain-style swallowtail ridge architectural style is one of the representatives of the architectural style in the southern Fujian region. The ancestral houses are mostly typical southern Fujian quadrangles (two entrances and four rooms), this type of house uses a wooden frame structure, the bamboo woven wall is smeared with paper root ash to build, experts say, this type of building is beneficial to earthquake resistance, therefore, the ancient houses in Damei Ancient Residential Complex have stood firm after hundreds of years and multiple earthquakes, which is a miracle in the architectural history of southern Fujian.
