Jiao Mountain: A Treasure Where History and Nature Intertwine

Jiao Mountain Scenic Area is located at the east end of Dongwu Road in Zhenjiang city. It is a national AAAAA-level tourist attraction and the only island surrounded by water on all four sides in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River. It is known as the "Floating Jade in the River" and the "Pillar in the Midstream." Its greatest feature lies in its profound cultural heritage, especially its famous stele art, earning it the titles "Mountain of Calligraphy" and "King of Steles." Jiao Mountain boasts the largest stele forest in southern China — Jiao Mountain Stele Forest, which houses over 500 ancient steles and more than 80 cliff inscriptions. It is known alongside the Xi'an Stele Forest as "South Jiao, North Xi'an." Located in the Yangtze River, Jiao Mountain is named after the Eastern Han recluse Jiao Guang and contains a vast collection of ancient steles and inscriptions, earning it the reputation of a "Famous Calligraphy Mountain." Scholars of the Song Dynasty often visited here, leaving many poems and inscriptions, with Chao Gongwu's "Traveling to Jiao Mountain" being one of the representative works. Attractions include: Dinghui Temple, Jiao Mountain Stele Forest, Wanfo Pagoda, Ancient Cannon Platform, Xijiang Tower, Biefeng Nunnery, Sanzhao Cave, and cliff inscriptions.
