There are so many modes of commute one can choose to visit Edinburgh. But there something that I love about trains. We started early morning from London and this was a fast train that had 2-3 stops in the muddled, the biggest one I remember was Newcastle , before we reached Edinburgh Waverley. And I must say we didn’t even feel where the time went, passing by the most breathtaking views of nature. Share your thoughts, what do you think if train ride is much of a hassle??? #travel2026 #solotravel #edinburghtrips

I share my travel experience to everyone who dreams of experiencing Scotland in its most magical, amber-hued season. Wandering through Edinburgh during autumn feels like stepping directly into a living fairytale. The crisp October air brings out a rich palette of deep crimson, fiery orange, and golden amber, framing the historic stone architecture in every direction. My adventure began strolling down the rain-glistening steps near Edinburgh Castle, where fallen leaves created a colorful carpet underfoot and the dramatic fortress towered above framed by golden foliage. Princes Street Gardens offers an incredible vantage point, but walking along the Water of Leith toward Dean Village felt like unlocking a secret storybook town. The historic red-sandstone buildings and picturesque stone bridges wrapped in turning ivy make every turn completely spellbinding. If you are looking for hidden spots away from the usual crowds, I cannot recommend Carlowrie Castle and the surrounding historic chapels enough. Seeing a Scottish castle or church completely engulfed in vibrant, crimson-red ivy leaves contrast against gray stone is an unforgettable sight. A great local tip for taking photos is to explore right after a light autumn shower. The wet cobblestones reflect the dramatic autumn sky and vivid tree canopies, creating a Moody, romantic vibe that captures Edinburgh’s authentic spirit. For a quiet, relaxing afternoon, head up toward the Royal Botanic Garden or wander the peaceful paths near Rosslyn Chapel, where towering ancient trees shed brilliant leaves over centuries-old stonework. To get the most out of your autumn escape, pack a cozy trench coat, bring a sturdy umbrella, and wear comfortable walking boots for navigating wet stone steps and leafy park trails. End your autumn walks by ducking into a warm, wood-paneled pub along the Royal Mile or near Circus Lane for a hot spiced cider or a hearty Scottish meal. Watching the amber light fade over the city spires while warm pub lights begin to glow across the mist is pure magic. Edinburgh in the fall captures a cozy warmth unlike anywhere else, making it an absolute bucket-list destination for leaf-peepers and cozy travel lovers alike. #AutumnInEdinburgh #EdinburghTravel #ScotlandInAutumn #FallColors #ExploreScotland #DeanVillage #EdinburghCastle #TravelStory #Wanderlust #fallcolors

I keep returning to Edinburgh, and each trip feels like I'm unlocking another layer of its ancient, cobbled soul. I started this particular return on the iconic Waverley Bridge. Standing there, with the busy trains rumbling below and that incredibly dramatic skyline rising up all around, is a ritual I will never skip. It's the perfect handshake to reconfirm I'm back. There's something magical about how the Old Town's medieval spires seem to rise straight from the earth, contrasting with the refined Georgian architecture of the New Town just across the valley. From this vantage point, you feel plugged directly into the city's pulse, a mix of historic gravitas and modern bustle. Just up the road, I found myself drawn back into the embrace of the Old Tolbooth area. The weight of history there, with the Tolbooth Tavern still standing as a cozy pub, is almost palpable. You don't just walk these streets; you feel centuries of whispers and footsteps right alongside you. The memory of that moody, shadowed alley, contrasted with the inviting light spilling from the tavern, is precisely what pulls me back. It’s a tangible connection to a past that’s never completely gone in Edinburgh, and I was happy to spend some time letting its presence wash over me. From that historic heart, I followed my feet towards the iconic spires visible from the bridge, a view I have memorized. There is something truly enchanting about Princes Street. It is a classic Edinburgh sight, but its beauty never dulls. Standing on that grand street, I just had to stop and gaze out over the Princes Street Gardens, marveling at the formidable presence of the Castle looming on the rock above, and the unique combination of modern shopping and ancient heritage all at once. The wide sidewalks and elegant buildings always make me feel like I’m in a sophisticated European capital, but with a uniquely rugged Scottish heart. As I meandered through the winding, cobbled paths of the Old Town, I found my steps slowing. Victoria Street with its brilliant, colorful facades curve like a painter's palette, was as enchanting as I remembered. I love how it drops away, revealing hidden shops and cafes in such an artistic and unexpected curve. The cobblestones feel intimate under my boots, and on a slightly drizzly day like this one, they shine with that famous moody Edinburgh light. I couldn't resist pausing near the corner to just soak in the unique character of the place. Walking these old, familiar lanes in the soft Scottish mist is not just repetition; it’s a deep comfort, like listening to a beloved, timeless piece of music. It’s this intimate and welcoming character that I find so hard to leave and so impossible to stay away from for long. No matter how many times I come to Edinburgh, my soul always demands a visit to its architectural and spiritual anchor: St. Giles' Cathedral. And within it, there's a hidden gem I simply have to see every time, the Thistle Chapel. Walking in, you’re enveloped by a profound sense of quiet and history, but it’s when I finally looked up at that magnificent ceiling that I was once again struck with awe. The ceiling, a masterpiece of intricate and gilded carved wood and stone, is a breathtaking tapestry of heraldry and artistry. Every square inch of its complex vaulting is adorned with shields and figures that tell tales of Scotland’s ancient and royal Order of the Thistle. The light coming through the stained glass just adds a quiet reverence to it all. It’s that feeling of quiet contemplation and sudden, striking beauty that I seek, a moment of profound artistic and historic connection that only this place can provide. It's a serene refuge and an unparalleled masterpiece, and visiting it feels less like a tourist activity and more like paying respects to a profound artistic triumph that continues to touch me deeply. And yes, even though I've walked past countless times, my Edinburgh pilgrimage always includes a quiet moment by Greyfriars Bobby. Seeing that small bronze statue of the loyal dog, perched atop its drinking fountain in front of the pub bearing its name, never fails to bring a smile to my face, no matter how many times I’ve heard the legend. It’s more than a statue to me; it’s a powerful symbol of unwavering devotion that feels almost like a personal friend. As the rain started to fall gently on that familiar, dark afternoon, I watched a few other visitors stop and snap a photo, and I felt that same warm, human connection I always do. The statue, bathed in the soft, melancholic Scottish light, represents the very best of loyalty and heart, and encountering it in its home turf feels essential. And speaking of loyalty, one of my other absolute must-repeats is to find the perfect Edinburgh mews. I had a wonderful walk down Circus Lane, probably my favorite one, where the wet cobblestones glistened and the charming, flower-bedecked, curve of houses made me feel like I was in a movie. Standing at the top, looking down that perfect, picturesque path, with the church spire in the distance, is my idea of the ultimate quiet city moment. Returning to these specific spots, seeing them in different lights and seasons, isn't repetitive, it’s building a relationship with a city that continues to reveal its countless, beautiful layers to me. This combination of grand history and simple, heartfelt beauty is what makes my repeated return destinations in Edinburgh so deeply fulfilling and utterly non-negotiable. #myedinburgh #edinburghscotland #traveladdict #lovescotland #exploreedinburgh #unitedkingdom #historygram #scotlandexplore #visitscotland #repeattraveler #travellife #themilkmancoffee #travelgram #scottishcastle #repeatdestination

You definitely don’t need to spend £30 on every attraction to have a great trip here. In fact, some of the best things I’ve done in the UK have cost absolutely nothing. Here’s how I’d build a budget-friendly UK trip around FREE experiences: 🌳 Explore the parks London alone gives you loads of options. Hyde Park, St James’s Park, Greenwich Park, Primrose Hill and Hampstead Heath are all free to explore. And the views? Some are better than anything you’ll pay an entrance fee for. 🌿📸 🏛️ Visit free museums Many major UK museums and galleries have free general admission. In London, you can spend hours at places like the British Museum, Natural History Museum, Victoria and Albert Museum or National Gallery without paying an entry fee. 🏘️ Walk historic cities Edinburgh, York, Cambridge, Oxford and Bath are perfect for simply wandering. Historic streets, old buildings, markets, bridges and beautiful viewpoints don’t cost anything. Just put on comfortable shoes and start exploring. 🚶🏻♀️ Because let’s be honest… You might arrive in the UK with a €1,000 budget… …and leave wondering where the extra €500 went. 🇬🇧 What would your budget be for a week?👇

Why Scotland, and why NOW? Scotland is going against the grain. While the rest of Europe battles overtourism, war, and border chaos, Scotland just welcomed 4.4 million international visitors and is attracting record numbers from the US, Germany, France, Italy, and Australia. Flight bookings to Scottish airports jumped 15% in June and July 2026 alone, and Edinburgh Airport handled 1.7 million passengers — 20.7% above pre-pandemic levels. Here's the kicker for your wallet: ScotRail fares are frozen for 12 months, peak fares have been scrapped entirely, and single bus journeys in the Highlands are now capped at £2. But here's what the algorithm won't tell you: most visitors rush through Edinburgh's Royal Mile, snap a photo of Loch Ness, and leave. They miss the bluebell islands of Loch Lomond, the fishing villages of Fife, and the £2.50 morning roll where Scotland actually breathes. This guide is built for the traveler who wants real value. Save it. You'll use it. 🚆 TRANSPORT: The £2 Bus That Beats Every Rental Car The mistake starts at Edinburgh or Glasgow airport. Taxis quote £30–50 to the city center. The Airlink 100 bus costs £5.50 and drops you at Waverley Bridge in 25 minutes. The Glasgow Airport Express runs to Buchanan Street for £9 round-trip. The rail rule. ScotRail fares are frozen until April 2027, and peak fares have been permanently scrapped — bringing fares down by up to 48%. A journey from Edinburgh to Glasgow costs £12–15 and takes 50 minutes. Edinburgh to Inverness runs 3.5 hours for £30–45 if booked early. Download the ScotRail app and book in advance. The £2 bus hack. The Scottish Government rolled out a £2 bus fare cap across the Highlands, Islands, Moray, Argyll, and Bute in 2026. A journey from Wick to Inverness — normally £31 — now costs just £2. Elgin to Inverness, usually £15.60, is also capped at £2. This is one of the best transport deals in Europe. 🍲 FOOD: The £2.50 Morning Roll That Beats Every Restaurant Scottish food is not fancy. It's a morning roll — a soft white bun filled with Lorne sausage, bacon, or black pudding, sold from bakeries and corner shops for £2.50–3.50. It's fish and chips — battered haddock with chunky chips, for £10–14 at a local chippy. And it's Cullen skink — a creamy smoked haddock and potato soup, for £6–9 at a pub. The pub rule. The best value in Scotland is at a local pub. A pub lunch costs £12–18. A dinner at a mid-range restaurant runs £25–40 per person. A pint of Tennent's or Belhaven costs £4.50–6 depending on location. Edinburgh's Royal Mile will charge you double — walk 10 minutes in any direction and prices drop by a third. Look for the pub with locals at the bar. That's the one. Must-try, ranked: · Morning roll with Lorne sausage — the everyday breakfast. £2.50–3.50. · Fish and chips — the coastal staple. £10–14 at a local chippy. · Cullen skink — smoked haddock soup. £6–9 at a pub. · Haggis, neeps and tatties — the national dish. £10–15 at a local pub. · Shortbread — the classic biscuit. £2–4 from any bakery. The Irn-Bru rule. Irn-Bru is Scotland's national soft drink — bright orange, impossibly sweet, and beloved by everyone from schoolchildren to taxi drivers. A can costs £1–1.50 from any shop. Drink it cold, like the locals do. 🗺️ HIDDEN SCOTLAND: 3 Places Tourists Miss 1. Inchcailloch (Loch Lomond) — A tiny island in Loch Lomond, reachable by a 35-minute waterbus from Luss. Condé Nast Traveler named it one of the "Seven Wonders of Scotland for 2026". In spring, the entire island is awash with bluebells. It was once the burial ground of Clan MacGregor, and the ruins of a church still sit tucked within the ancient woodland. No crowds. No entrance fee. Just you, the bluebells, and the silence. 2. East Neuk of Fife — A string of old fishing villages along the coastal path from Elie to Crail, just an hour from Edinburgh. 'Neuk' is the Scots word for 'nook', and it fits perfectly. Walk the coastal path, eat at the Bowhouse food hub on market weekends, swim in the tidal pool at Crail, and warm up in the Elie Seaside Sauna — a wood-fired sauna in a converted horse trailer overlooking the sunrise. Most visitors never make it here. That's exactly why you should. 3. Rannoch Moor — One of the last true wildernesses in Europe, covering 50 square miles of bogland, lochs, and rugged landscape in the Scottish Highlands. The train from Glasgow to Fort William rolls through it, arriving via a line built on a raft of roots and brushwood because traditional foundations failed in the boggy ground. Get off at Corrour — the most remote train station in the UK — and walk. No roads. No crowds. Just you and the moor. Honorable mention: Grey Mare's Tail (Dumfries & Galloway) — a 60-meter waterfall plunging into a dramatic gorge, recently voted the most underrated place to visit in Scotland for autumn 2026. No entrance fee. No queues. 💰 BUDGET REALITY CHECK Scotland is moderate for the UK — cheaper than London, similar to northern England, and far more affordable than you think if you eat at bakeries and use the £2 bus cap. · Budget traveler: $66 (£52) per day — hostel dorms, supermarket food, public transport. · Mid-range traveler: $209 (£165) per day — B&Bs, restaurant meals, occasional rental car. · Luxury traveler: $328 (£260) per day — boutique hotels, fine dining, private transfers. · Hostel dorm (Edinburgh): £40 per night. · Morning roll: £2.50–3.50. · Pub lunch: £12–18. · Pint of Tennent's: £4.50–6. · ScotRail (Edinburgh–Glasgow): £12–15. · £2 bus cap (Highlands): £2 for single adult journeys. · Crail tidal pool: free. · Elie Seaside Sauna: £15–20 for a session. Realistic daily budget: $66–209 depending on your style. Budget travelers can stay under £60 with hostels, supermarket food, and public transport. Mid-range travelers spend around £165 with B&Bs and occasional restaurant meals. 🙏 ETIQUETTE: 5 Unspoken Rules That Matter Scotland runs on warmth, humour, and a few unwritten rules that locals just get. These aren't tourist rules — they're how the country works. 1. Say "Cheers" when you enter a shop or pub. A simple "Cheers" or "Aye, thanks" goes a long way. Scots are friendly but reserved — don't be overly loud or effusive. A nod and a smile is enough. And if someone says "You alright?", it's not a question — it's a greeting. Say "Aye, you?" and keep walking. 2. Buy your round. In a Scottish pub, the golden rule is that if someone buys you a drink, you buy the next round. Skipping your turn is a social crime. And when ordering, don't be fussy — a pint is a pint. 3. Don't call it "England." Scotland is not England. It's a country with its own parliament, its own legal system, and its own football team. Calling a Scot English is a genuine insult — even if unintentional. 4. Respect the land. Scotland's right to roam is enshrined in law, but it comes with responsibility. Close gates behind you. Take your litter home. Don't disturb livestock. And if you're hiking in the Highlands, tell someone where you're going and when you'll be back. 5. Tipping is appreciated, not mandatory. Around 10% for good service in restaurants. Leave it in cash on the table. For taxis, round up. For hotel porters, £1–2 per bag. In pubs, tipping isn't expected — just offer to buy a round. 💾 SAVE THIS POST IF: · You're planning Scotland in 2026 — it's welcoming 4.4 million visitors and the transport deals are the best in years. · You want to eat a morning roll for £2.50 and see Inchcailloch before the crowds find it. · You believe the best travel intel comes from real experience, not recycled top-10 lists. Drop a 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 in the comments if Scotland is on your 2026 list — and follow for the Northern Ireland & Wales deep-dive next. #Scotland2026 #ScotlandTravel #HiddenScotland #TripMoments #TripCoins #TravelHacks #BudgetTravelScotland #ScotlandGuide #ScottishFood #MorningRoll #Inchcailloch #EastNeuk #ScotlandOnABudget #TripCom

🏰 Edinburgh: The Perfect 3-Day Itinerary, Pubs & Restaurants Edinburgh is one of those cities that is best explored slowly, with plenty of time to wander through cobbled streets, discover hidden closes, stop for a drink in a cosy pub and admire the dramatic architecture. I spent my time walking around the city and found that the best way to experience Edinburgh is to mix the famous landmarks with quieter corners and a few good food and pub stops. 🗓️ Day 1: Old Town & Edinburgh Castle Start at Edinburgh Castle, dramatically perched on Castle Rock. Allow around 2 to 3 hours to explore the castle and enjoy the views across the city. From there, walk down the Royal Mile towards Holyrood. Take your time exploring the tiny closes and alleyways along the way. Don’t miss: 📍 St Giles’ Cathedral 📍 Victoria Street 📍 Grassmarket 📍 Writers’ Museum 📍 Dunbar’s Close For lunch, Makars Mash Bar is a fun option if you want to try traditional Scottish food, including haggis, neeps and tatties. In the afternoon, explore Victoria Street and Grassmarket, two of my favourite areas for photography. For the evening, head to a traditional pub such as The World’s End or Royal Mile Tavern. For dinner, Wedgwood The Restaurant is a good choice if you want a more refined Scottish meal. 🌄 Day 2: Arthur’s Seat, New Town & Dean Village Start early at Arthur’s Seat, Edinburgh’s famous volcanic hill. The views from the top are spectacular, stretching across the city and towards the Firth of Forth. If you don’t want a challenging hike, you can explore the easier paths around Holyrood Park instead. Afterwards, head towards Princes Street Gardens and the Scottish National Gallery. Spend the afternoon exploring Edinburgh’s elegant New Town: 📍 George Street 📍 Rose Street 📍 Charlotte Square 📍 Princes Street 📍 Circus Lane Then make your way to Dean Village, one of the prettiest and most peaceful parts of Edinburgh. Walk beside the Water of Leith and, if you have time, continue towards Stockbridge. For dinner, The Scran & Scallie is a great place to experience Scottish food in a relaxed pub setting. Later, try Panda & Sons if you fancy cocktails in a more unusual setting. 🌊 Day 3: Holyrood, Calton Hill & Leith Start your morning around Holyrood and visit The Palace of Holyroodhouse, located at the bottom of the Royal Mile. If you still have energy, explore part of Holyrood Park before heading towards Calton Hill. Calton Hill is one of the easiest viewpoints in Edinburgh and gives you an incredible panorama of the Old Town, Edinburgh Castle and the city skyline. In the afternoon, head to Leith, Edinburgh’s historic port district. Walk around the waterfront, explore the independent cafés and restaurants, and enjoy a slower side of the city away from the busiest tourist streets. For a special dinner, Heron in Leith is worth considering. 🍺 Best pubs to try Edinburgh has an incredible pub culture, and I would definitely include at least one traditional pub evening during your visit. 🍺 The World’s End Historic atmosphere right on the Royal Mile. 🍺 Royal Mile Tavern A classic choice when exploring the Old Town. 🍺 Dirty Dick’s Pub Cosy, traditional and full of character. 🍺 The Piper’s Rest A lively option for Scottish pub atmosphere. 🍸 Panda & Sons A fun choice if you prefer cocktails rather than whisky and beer. 🍽️ Restaurants worth adding to your list For Scottish food: The Scran & Scallie Makars Mash Bar Wedgwood The Restaurant Amber Restaurant & Whisky Bar For something different: Dishoom TIMBERYARD eòrna For the atmosphere: The Dome is particularly beautiful inside and is a great place for breakfast, drinks or afternoon tea. 📸 My Edinburgh photo checklist If you’re creating a travel post, I would definitely photograph: 🏰 Edinburgh Castle from the Old Town 🌈 Victoria Street ⛪ St Giles’ Cathedral and the Royal Mile 🌄 Edinburgh from Arthur’s Seat 🏘️ Dean Village 🌆 Edinburgh skyline from Calton Hill 🍺 A cosy traditional pub Edinburgh is compact enough to explore mostly on foot, but I would leave some room for spontaneous stops. Some of my favourite moments in the city were simply wandering without a plan, turning into a tiny close or stopping somewhere that looked interesting. #edinburgh #edinburghtravel #scotland #scotlandtravel #visitscotland #uktravel #travelguide #citybreak #edinburghcastle #royalmile #scottishpubs #travelinspiration #beautifuldestinations #travel #europetrip

A city known for its rainy weather throughout the year, cool and comfortable temperatures, and breathtaking architecture. The atmosphere here is truly spectacular and absolutely lives up to its reputation! When I first arrived, I was genuinely amazed. After spending several hours on the train from Manchester to get here, I can honestly say it was totally worth it! 😍 Here are some of the must-see landmarks I visited: 1. Dean Village 🏡 A small, charming village that is beautiful from every angle. Seriously, you can take photos almost anywhere and they’ll turn out amazing! It’s about a 1 km walk from the train station, so it’s not too far at all. 2. Ross Fountain 🌳 A lovely spot in the park to sit back, relax, and enjoy the scenery. The beautiful greenery really stands out, and the view of Edinburgh Castle in the background makes it even more impressive. 3. The Vennel 📸 A long staircase leading uphill. It’s not a very long walk, and once you reach the top, you’ll be rewarded with an amazing, unobstructed view of Edinburgh Castle. Definitely worth the climb! 4. Victoria Street 🌈 A charming, sloping street lined with colorful buildings, restaurants, cafés, and souvenir shops. It’s such a fun street to wander around and take photos. Stay tuned for Edinburgh Part 2 in my next post! 💕 More places and experiences coming soon! ✨ Follow me bow_sa.nook (travel instragram)

I rated Edinburgh Castle a 5 for perfectly matching the Top 50 Best Things to Do in the United Kingdom list! The castle truly stands out as an essential sightseeing spot, thanks to its authentic cultural atmosphere and beautiful views. What really made my visit unforgettable was discovering that this historic place inspired Harry Potter—making it even more magical for fans to capture some memorable photos 📸. All the basic information about Edinburgh Castle is accurate, including the address and operating hours. For the best experience, I highly recommend visiting in the morning to avoid crowds—especially if you want great photos and a more relaxed atmosphere. Around 1 p.m., there’s a gun firing show that draws large crowds, making the place quite packed. Don’t forget to bring an umbrella, as the weather can change suddenly and it might rain unexpectedly ☔️. #tripbest #tripbest _reviewer

Following my previous post about Dean Village and Ross Fountain, let’s continue with Edinburgh Part II! 🏰✨ Here are a few more must-see places in Edinburgh that I absolutely loved: 1. Edinburgh Castle 🏰 One of the highlights of Edinburgh! The castle is grand and impressive, with incredible architecture and beautiful views overlooking the city. Walking around inside the castle really gives you a sense of Edinburgh’s rich history. 2. St. Giles’ Cathedral ⛪️ A stunning and impressive cathedral located in the heart of Edinburgh. There’s no admission fee — visitors are simply encouraged to make a donation. The architecture inside is absolutely beautiful and definitely worth a visit! 3. Calton Hill 🌄 A short and easy walk uphill with a well-maintained path. Once you reach the top, the views are absolutely beautiful. It’s a perfect spot to sit down, have a little picnic, and enjoy the sunset while taking in the panoramic views of Edinburgh. 4. Cockburn Street 📸 A beautiful curved street lined with charming European-style buildings. Every corner is incredibly photogenic, making it one of my favorite spots for taking photos in Edinburgh! 5. Scott Monument 🏛️ One of Edinburgh’s most iconic landmarks, and you can’t really miss it! It’s located right next to Waverley Station, so you’ll spot this impressive Gothic monument almost as soon as you leave the train station. 6. The Scottish Bagpipers 🎶🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 One of the most iconic sights and sounds of Edinburgh! You’ll often come across Scottish bagpipers playing traditional music on the streets, especially around the Old Town and popular tourist areas. The sound of the bagpipes echoing through the historic streets, surrounded by Edinburgh’s beautiful old architecture, creates such a unique Scottish atmosphere. It really feels like a signature part of the Edinburgh experience — and definitely something you shouldn’t miss while exploring the city! ✨ The monument was built in memory of Sir Walter Scott and is one of the largest monuments dedicated to a writer anywhere in the world. Its dramatic Gothic design makes it stand out beautifully against the Edinburgh skyline. It’s especially impressive when viewed from Princes Street, and definitely worth stopping by for a few photos as you explore the city. Edinburgh has so many beautiful places to explore, and every corner seems to have its own charm. ❤️

I walk through Edinburgh city centre every day, and somehow it still surprises me with how beautiful it is. You can walk the same streets a hundred times and still notice something new. #edinburgh #edinburghcastle #visitscotland #travelmoments

How much does a trip to the UK cost💰? To be honest, it's not as expensive as you might think🇬🇧 Before I left, I scrolled through a bunch of posts and was scared off for half a month by claims that it would "start at 30k." After actually finishing a 9-day trip, the per-person cost, including visa and airfare, was just over 16k, and I still had some pocket money left. Today, I'll break down the costs based on different budget levels so you can see exactly where the money goes👇 💷 Three budget tiers, find your fit Budget travelers can get by on £50–80 per day, with a total 10-day cost of about £500–800. Staying in hostels and grabbing supermarket meal deals is totally doable. For a comfortable trip, budget £100–150 per day, which easily covers standard hotels, sit-down meals, and intercity trains. For a high-quality experience, budget from £200 per day, and you'll have plenty for Michelin-starred restaurants and boutique hotels. For major transportation, keep an eye out for discounted connecting flights two months in advance. You can snag tickets for just over 4,000 including taxes, saving you thousands compared to last-minute direct flights. For intercity trains, be sure to book Advance tickets early; you can cut the original price in half. For example, a one-way ticket from London to Oxford costs just £15–30. For accommodation, remember one rule: don't insist on staying in central London. Choose a homestay near a subway station in zones 2–3; it's convenient, clean, and costs £30–50 per person per night if you share a room. As for food, supermarket meal deals cost three or four pounds per meal, and a sit-down meal is £15–25 per person. £30–40 a day is more than enough. 🏰 Trip highlights, spend your money where it counts The British Museum has free admission. Once you step into the Egyptian and Chinese galleries, you won't want to leave—it's well worth setting aside half a day. The National Gallery is also free, and Van Gogh's "Sunflowers" is hanging right inside. For punting on the River Cam in Cambridge, we split a boat among 5 people and negotiated it down to £12.50 per person. The punter shared gossip about the colleges the whole way, making for an incredible experience. Edinburgh Castle offers a view overlooking the entire old town, and the castle's outer walls glow gold in the sunset from the square in front. The Shambles in York is the inspiration for Diagon Alley in Harry Potter, and every photo looks like a movie still. ⚠️ A few heartfelt tips Starting in 2026, the UK will fully implement electronic visas. Remember to link your UKVI account before you travel, as airlines will check your visa status online before boarding. If you are under 30, get a Railcard for your train travel to save one-third on ticket prices immediately. It works even better when you buy tickets via Trainline. For short trips in London, taking the bus is more cost-effective than the subway; it's £1.75 for a single trip, transfers within an hour are free, and it's capped at £5.25 per day. The weather in the UK changes faster than you can turn a page, so just keep an umbrella with you. Save where you can, and spend where it enhances the experience. The UK is a place where your eyes and mind will come back full. Once is truly not enough🌍

Edinburgh is surprisingly easy to enjoy on a budget. I spent a full day walking around the city, and some of my favorite moments didn’t cost me anything. I started along the Royal Mile, wandering through its closes and historic streets before stepping inside St Giles’ Cathedral, where the architecture and stained glass were beautiful. Entry is free, although donations are welcome. From there, I walked up Calton Hill. The short climb gave me one of my favorite views across Edinburgh, with the Old Town and distant hills stretching out below. Later, I explored the National Museum of Scotland. The huge Grand Gallery alone was worth seeing, and I could easily have spent hours wandering through the collections without paying an entrance fee. I also walked through Dean Village, followed the Water of Leith, wandered around Greyfriars Kirkyard, and relaxed in Princes Street Gardens. By the end of the day, I realized Edinburgh doesn’t need an expensive itinerary. Good walking shoes, a little curiosity, and plenty of time were more than enough. #edinburgh #unitedkingdom

💔 Bottom line first: The UK is beautiful, but it's painfully expensive and the service is lackluster. Visas are hard to get (lots of bank statements and employment proof), flights are often over 10,000, and once you arrive, you get ripped off by taxis, forced to pay restaurant service charges, and attraction ticket prices keep rising... After 10 days, it cost 25,000 per person, but the experience felt like paying to suffer. But! If you can avoid these traps, the UK is still worth visiting. 🇬🇧 London: Classic spots and high-price traps 📍 Tower Bridge: A must-visit! But don't just take photos on the bridge. Go to the north bank of the Thames to get a shot of the entire bridge and towers. 📍 British Museum: Free! But you have to rent an audio guide (£6). The porcelain in the China gallery is stunning. Bring a power bank; you'll need at least 3 hours to explore. 📍 London Eye: It costs £30 just for a panoramic view. You're better off grabbing a coffee at the top of The Shard (average £20 per person, with an even better view). 🚫 Avoiding traps: Taxi starting fare is £4.50, and a 3km ride costs £20! Uber is half the price. Restaurant bills already include a 12.5% service charge, so don't tip extra. Buy attraction tickets on the official website in advance; buying on-site costs 10% more. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Edinburgh: Harry Potter vibes, but the rain is relentless 📍 Edinburgh Castle: Tickets are £19.50. Don't miss the 1:00 PM firing of the gun. The best photo spot is on the hillside opposite the main gate for a panoramic view. 📍 Royal Mile: It's full of cashmere scarf shops. Don't be tempted by cheap machine-made ones; handmade ones cost £45+. 📍 Calton Hill: A must-visit for a free sunset! It's the same spot from Jay Chou's "Ming Ming Jiu" music video, but the wind is so strong you can barely open your eyes, so bring a windbreaker. 🍽️ Food: Skip the "Instagrammable" restaurants. Fish and chips cost £15, while a sandwich and yogurt from a supermarket cost only £4 and are just as good. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Manchester: A paradise for soccer fans, but the traffic is a mess 📍 Old Trafford: Home of Manchester United. Tour + museum is £28. Non-fans can skip it. 📍 Science and Industry Museum: Free! Steam trains and textile machines—great for kids. 🚫 Avoiding traps: Trains in Manchester are often delayed, so allow at least 2 hours for transfers. Use Uber for taxis; unlicensed drivers will double the price. Don't buy souvenirs near the stadium; they're 30% more expensive than in the city center. 📸 Photography & Outfits: It's often cloudy in the UK, so bright-colored coats (red, yellow) look great in photos. Bring waterproof boots (rain will ruin leather shoes). Umbrellas can't handle the strong winds, so a raincoat is more practical. 💰 Budget: Visa + service fees are about 1,500; round-trip flights are 8,000–12,000; accommodation is £40/night for a hostel or £80 for a homestay; food is £30/day per person; tickets and transportation total 5,000. Total is around 25,000. ⏰ Best time to visit: May–September. Don't believe the "summers aren't hot" myth; London can still hit 30°C, but there's less rain. ⚠️ Finally: Don't believe the "the UK doesn't rip off tourists" myth. Always ask for the price before purchasing, especially for taxis and street stalls. Bring a Visa card; cash is useless. Although I was exhausted from being ripped off, seeing the Rosetta Stone at the British Museum and the sunset in Edinburgh made it worth it. Next time I go, I'm definitely bringing a friend who can cook!

If you’re walking around Edinburgh’s New Town, you might pass The Dome without realising just how impressive it is inside. 👀 I definitely think it’s worth popping in, even if you’re not planning a full meal. 🏛️ First, the building The Dome is inside a spectacular former banking hall, and the Georgian architecture is honestly the first thing that grabs your attention. The building dates back to the 1840s and was originally built for the Commercial Bank of Scotland. Today it’s a restaurant, bar and afternoon-tea destination, but you can still see plenty of the original grandeur. ✨ And yes… the name makes sense when you see that incredible dome! 😍 🍰 Afternoon tea This is probably what The Dome is best known for. Afternoon tea is served in the Georgian Tea Room, surrounded by all that beautiful décor. You get the traditional combination of sandwiches, scones, cakes and tea, presented on silver stands. ☕️🧁 It’s definitely more of a special-occasion experience than a quick coffee stop. 🍽️ But it’s not just afternoon tea The Grill Room serves lunch and dinner, while the Club Room serves brunch from 10am. So you can visit at different times of day depending on what you fancy. 🍳🥂 💷 What about the price? It isn’t a budget option, and recent reviews often mention that prices can feel high. However, some diners have also praised the food, service and overall experience — including a recent two-course lunch menu at £25. ⭐ What I think makes it worth seeing For me, it’s the combination of the building + atmosphere + food. Even if you decide not to have a full meal, I’d put The Dome on your Edinburgh list and at least have a look inside. 📸 It’s one of those places where you’ll probably find yourself looking up at the ceiling before you even think about taking a photo! 💡 Practical tip: Reservations are strongly recommended, especially for the Georgian Tea Room and Grill Room. The Dome is open daily, with the Club Room from 10am and the Georgian Tea Room and Grill Room from 12pm. If you’re already exploring George Street, Princes Street and Edinburgh New Town, it’s an easy stop to add to your day. 🏙️🚶🏻♀️ 📍 The Dome, 14 George Street, Edinburgh Would you go inside The Dome for afternoon tea, lunch, or just to see the building? 👀🍰🏛️

If there is one city in the UK that is perfect for autumn, I would choose Edinburgh without hesitation. The gray-blue sky, black Gothic spires, cobblestone streets after the rain, plus the golden and orange hues covering the entire city. The gloomier the weather, the more it captures that unique, storybook feel of Edinburgh. 📍 A few photo spots worth visiting in autumn 🍂 1. Princes Street Gardens: Autumn leaves + Scott Monument. The layers are especially beautiful, and it is a classic Edinburgh autumn scene. 2. 🏰 The Vennel: Edinburgh Castle is right at the end of the stone steps. It actually has more of a medieval atmosphere when shot on a cloudy day. 3. 🌆 Calton Hill: Overlooking Edinburgh's Old Town and its spires. It is especially perfect for capturing panoramic city views in the evening. 4. 🏘️ Dean Village: Stone bridges, valleys, and old houses surrounded by autumn leaves—it is a completely different, quieter side of Edinburgh. 5. 🍁 Circus Lane: A charming little street full of local character. It looks especially beautiful in autumn after the leaves and climbing vines change color. 6. 📷 Princes Street/Old Town area: You do not actually need to hunt for specific photo spots. Just look up at many street corners, and you will see spires, old buildings, and autumn leaves. Autumn in Edinburgh is not bright and vibrant; it is a sudden splash of gold against a gray sky. It feels like this season was always meant to belong to Edinburgh. 🍂

Edinburgh looks like it was built for a movie. A medieval Old Town. A castle sitting above the skyline. Ancient streets climbing through the city. Dramatic volcanic landscapes. And views stretching across Scotland. The Scottish capital is compact enough to explore on foot, but packed with history around almost every corner. If you're visiting for the first time, these are the 6 places I'd put at the top of your list. 🏰 1. EDINBURGH CASTLE Start at the top. Edinburgh Castle dominates the city from its position on Castle Rock and has played a central role in Scotland's history for centuries. Explore the historic buildings, see the Scottish Crown Jewels and stand on the castle walls for incredible views across Edinburgh. Best for: History, architecture & views. 🏘️ 2. THE ROYAL MILE Then walk down the city's most famous street. The Royal Mile runs through the heart of Edinburgh's Old Town, connecting Edinburgh Castle with the Palace of Holyroodhouse. Along the way you'll find historic buildings, hidden closes, traditional pubs, shops and some of the city's oldest streets. Don't just stay on the main road. Look down the little closes branching off it. Best for: History, walking & atmosphere. ⛰️ 3. ARTHUR'S SEAT For the best adventure in the city, climb a volcano. Arthur's Seat rises above Holyrood Park and offers spectacular panoramic views across Edinburgh and beyond. The hike can be steep in places, but reaching the summit is worth the effort. Go on a clear morning or around sunset for the best views. Best for: Hiking, nature & photography. 🏛️ 4. HOLYROOD PALACE At the opposite end of the Royal Mile sits the King's official Scottish residence. The Palace of Holyroodhouse has been connected to Scottish royalty for centuries and remains one of Edinburgh's most important historic sites. Explore the grand rooms before wandering through the atmospheric ruins of Holyrood Abbey. Best for: Royal history, architecture & culture. 🌿 5. DEAN VILLAGE Step away from the crowds and discover one of Edinburgh's prettiest corners. Dean Village sits beside the Water of Leith and feels surprisingly peaceful considering it's only a short walk from the city centre. Stone buildings, old bridges and the river make this one of the best places in Edinburgh for a slower walk. Best for: Photography, walking & hidden gems. 📚 6. VICTORIA STREET & GRASSMARKET Finish in one of the city's most colourful areas. Curving Victoria Street is lined with brightly painted shopfronts, independent stores and cafés before opening onto the historic Grassmarket. Come in the evening when the pubs and restaurants bring the area to life. And don't forget to look back towards Edinburgh Castle. Best for: Shopping, food & atmosphere. 🔥 THE EDINBURGH SIX 🏰 Edinburgh Castle — The icon 🏘️ Royal Mile — The history ⛰️ Arthur's Seat — The adventure 🏛️ Holyrood Palace — The royalty 🌿 Dean Village — The escape 📚 Victoria Street & Grassmarket — The charm

This breathtaking view captures Edinburgh, Scotland, where grand Victorian architecture, historic landmarks, Gothic spires, and rolling hills come together beneath a spectacular Scottish sky. The magnificent clock tower dominating the foreground belongs to The Balmoral, one of Edinburgh’s most recognizable landmarks. Its distinctive clock tower has become an iconic part of the city skyline, standing proudly above the eastern end of Princes Street. 📍 Location Edinburgh, Scotland, United Kingdom The photograph appears to look across the central Edinburgh cityscape around Princes Street and the Old Town, with the Balmoral clock tower prominently in the foreground. 🏛️ A City Built on History Edinburgh feels almost like a living historical novel. Medieval Old Town rises beside the elegant Georgian New Town, while dramatic Gothic architecture gives the skyline its unmistakable character. Beyond the busy streets, the distant landscape reveals the gentle hills surrounding the Scottish capital. The contrast between historic stone buildings and the modern rhythm of buses, pedestrians, and city traffic makes this scene particularly captivating. 🌅 When Edinburgh Glows The real magic of this photograph comes from the sky. Warm orange and golden light illuminates the clouds while the darker stone architecture creates a beautiful contrast. After rain, Edinburgh can become especially atmospheric, with wet streets reflecting the surrounding lights and architecture. 🚶 Things to Explore Nearby If visiting Edinburgh, consider exploring: Princes Street — one of the city's main shopping and sightseeing streets Edinburgh Castle — spectacularly positioned above the city Royal Mile — the historic spine of Edinburgh's Old Town Calton Hill — excellent panoramic views over the city Scott Monument — an extraordinary Gothic monument near Princes Street Victoria Street — one of Edinburgh's most photogenic historic streets Holyrood Palace — at the opposite end of the Royal Mile Arthur’s Seat — a rewarding viewpoint over Edinburgh and beyond 📸 A Perfect Edinburgh Moment What makes this scene special isn't just one landmark. It's the combination of ancient architecture, Gothic towers, busy streets, distant hills, dramatic clouds, and warm evening light. Edinburgh has a rare ability to look both timeless and alive at the same moment—a city where every street seems to carry a piece of history. Edinburgh isn't simply a destination; it's a mood. 🏰🌅🏴

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿✨ Kuala Lumpur to Edinburgh from RM1,100 One Way — A Journey Through Three Cities! ✈️ Edinburgh has always been one of those destinations that feels completely different from the usual European city break. With its dramatic castle, historic Old Town, cobbled streets, beautiful architecture and surrounding Scottish landscapes, it is a place that feels like stepping into another era. 🏰🌿 For this trip, we found a one-way fare from Kuala Lumpur to Edinburgh starting from RM1,100, with two transit stops in Xiamen and London before reaching Scotland. 🇲🇾 Kuala Lumpur → Xiamen → London → Edinburgh 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 The journey itself is quite unique because you get to pass through three very different destinations along the way. Xiamen gives you a taste of China, London adds a little British city adventure, and finally, Edinburgh brings you into the heart of Scotland. 🇨🇳 First Stop — Xiamen The first transit is in Xiamen, giving you a short glimpse of China along the journey. If the connection is long enough and you're able to leave the airport, you could potentially explore a little before continuing to the next leg. 🇬🇧 Second Stop — London London becomes the second transit point before heading north to Scotland. If you have a sufficiently long connection and meet the applicable UK entry requirements, you can turn the layover into a mini sightseeing opportunity. Depending on your available time, you could see places such as Big Ben, Westminster, Tower Bridge, Buckingham Palace or Covent Garden before heading back for your flight to Edinburgh. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Finally — Edinburgh And then comes the main destination — Edinburgh! 😍 Spend a few days exploring the historic streets of the Old Town, visit Edinburgh Castle, walk along the Royal Mile and enjoy the incredible views from Arthur's Seat. For photography lovers, Edinburgh is especially beautiful. The combination of old stone buildings, narrow streets, dramatic hills and Scottish architecture makes almost every corner feel like a movie scene. 📸🏰 If you have extra time, you can also use Edinburgh as a base for exploring more of Scotland, including scenic countryside, lochs and historic towns. ✈️ Trip Details 🇲🇾 Kuala Lumpur → Edinburgh 💰 From RM1,100 one way ✈️ Ryanair 🔄 2 transit stops — Xiamen & London 🧳 No checked baggage included — baggage can be added as an option 💡 Travel tip: Because this itinerary involves two transit points, make sure you carefully check the connection times, airports/terminals, baggage arrangements and entry/transit requirements for each stop before booking. With multiple connections, I would personally choose a longer buffer rather than making the itinerary too tight. What makes this trip interesting isn't just the low starting fare — it's the journey itself. You get to connect through Xiamen and London before finally arriving in Edinburgh, turning one flight booking into an opportunity to experience completely different places along the way. 🌏✈️ From Southeast Asia to China, then through the UK, and finally into Scotland — Edinburgh is waiting. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿✨ Save this one if Scotland is somewhere on your Europe bucket list! #edinburgh #travel2026 #londontrips #travel #trip #cheapflightdeals #xiamen #thingstodo
