Built by King Ludwig II in the 19th century, this castle inspired Disney and became the symbol of Bavaria. It sits among the Bavarian Alps, forests, and lakes and the journey there is an experience in itself. To see the castle in all its glory, climb up to Marienbrücke (Mary's Bridge) — that's where you get the iconic panoramic view from the postcards. 📍 How to Get There from Munich Standard route: train from Munich Central Station (Hauptbahnhof) to Füssen with a transfer (in Buchloe or Kaufbeuren). Journey time — about 2–2.5 hours. From Füssen station, buses 73 and 78 run to Hohenschwangau (the castle ticket office) about 10 minutes. 🎟️ Prices and Visiting Rules (2026) · Castle ticket: €21 (standard), €20 (concession). Children under 18 — free. · Online booking fee: €2.50. · Important: tickets are timed entry. If you arrive early or late, you may be denied entry. Sisters! I just got back from Germany a week ago, and my soul is still floating in the fairy tale of Neuschwanstein Castle 🏰 The aftereffects of this “castle and beer country” are unreal! 🇩🇪 Why must you go in July or August? Summer temperatures average 20–25℃, with daylight lasting until 9 PM, so it feels like two days in one! July and August are the busiest event seasons in Germany—Hannover Maschsee Lake Festival (7.22–8.9), Nuremberg Open Beatz Music Festival (7.24–7.26), Rothenburg Taubertal Music Festival (8.6–8.9) all happening back to back. Drinking in beer gardens until dawn is not unusual 🍺 📸 Must-visit spots + photo locations Neuschwanstein Castle—the original model for the Disney castle! The classic photo spot is from Marienbrücke for a full view of the castle. Side lighting is best after 3 PM, while mornings have backlighting. It’s recommended to book tickets on the official website before 9 AM to avoid crowds. Rothenburg—the “most romantic small town in Germany”! Colorful houses in Plönlein alley make perfect cover photos; climb the 52-meter town hall tower for a breathtaking view of red rooftops; stroll the 2.5 km ancient city walls for great shots. Berlin—arrive before 7 AM at Brandenburg Gate for empty shots; the Reichstag glass dome is free but requires booking one month in advance; the East Side Gallery’s “Brother’s Kiss” is a must; Museum Island at dusk offers stunning neoclassical building silhouettes. Heidelberg—Goethe called it a romantic university town! Heidelberg Castle overlooks the old town and Neckar River. Zugspitze + Eibsee—Germany’s highest peak, cable car to the top costs about 75 euros. Eibsee’s emerald waters rival Jiuzhaigou. After descending, a lakeside hike is super chill. Cologne Cathedral—the world’s third tallest Gothic cathedral, sunset casts a golden glow over the Rhine and cathedral for an amazing atmosphere. Only 100 people allowed to climb the tower per hour. Romantic Road—Würzburg → Rothenburg → Augsburg → Füssen → Munich, a route of medieval towns, castles, and vineyards. Self-driving is recommended. 🍜 Food you can’t finish ▪ Crispy pork knuckle with dark beer—crispy outside, tender inside, the soul of Bavaria ▪ Currywurst—the king of Berlin street food ▪ Nuremberg grilled sausages—small, flavorful, served with sauerkraut ▪ Pretzel + schnitzel—classic German carb happiness ▪ Black Forest cake—originated in the Black Forest region, a must-try ▪ Schneeball (snowball pastry)—Rothenburg specialty, coated in sweet icing ▪ Riesling white wine—have a glass in a winery town in the Rhine Valley 🚄 Travel tips The “Germany pass” costs 49–58 euros/month and covers all public transport nationwide. The ICE connects major cities. Tickets must be purchased before boarding! No gates but ticket checks happen, with fines starting at 60 euros. Different train cars on the same train may go to different cities, so check the LED screen outside the car before boarding. Download the DB Navigator app for real-time schedules. 💡 Tips ▪ Sunscreen! Strong UV, don’t skip sunscreen, sunglasses, and hats ▪ Big temperature difference between morning and night, bring a light jacket ▪ Carry 200–300 euros cash, many small shops only accept cash ▪ German standard power adapter (two round pins) ▪ Book popular spots like Neuschwanstein Castle and Reichstag dome in advance on the official website ▪ No short skirts or shorts in churches, dress appropriately ▪ Apply for Schengen visa early, insurance must cover COVID-19 ▪ Summer accommodations are tight, book early!

This itinerary is perfect for 4 to 6 days, allowing you to experience the very best of southern Germany at a relaxed pace. 📍Munich Start your adventure in Bavaria’s capital. Spend a day exploring Marienplatz, the English Garden, Viktualienmarkt and one of the city’s famous beer gardens before hitting the road. 📍Neuschwanstein Castle The world’s most famous fairytale castle is a must visit. Built by King Ludwig II, Neuschwanstein inspired Disney’s Sleeping Beauty Castle and sits dramatically above the forests and lakes near Füssen. Book your tickets in advance, walk up to Marienbrücke for the iconic panoramic view and, if possible, arrive early in the morning before the crowds. 📍Hohenschwangau Castle Just a short walk from Neuschwanstein, this beautiful yellow castle was King Ludwig II’s childhood home. Many visitors skip it, but visiting both castles offers a much richer understanding of Bavaria’s royal history. 📍Füssen One of Bavaria’s prettiest towns, Füssen is known for its colourful streets, medieval centre and beautiful riverside setting. Wander through the Old Town, visit the High Castle, enjoy traditional Bavarian restaurants and walk along the turquoise Lech River. It’s also an excellent place to spend the night before continuing your road trip. 📍Alpsee Located just below the castles, Alpsee is a peaceful alpine lake surrounded by mountains and forests. You can rent boats, enjoy lakeside walks or simply relax while taking in the incredible scenery. 📍Linderhof Palace Often overlooked by visitors, Linderhof is the smallest of King Ludwig II’s royal palaces but arguably the most elegant. Its beautifully landscaped gardens, fountains and famous Venus Grotto make it one of Bavaria’s hidden treasures. 📍Oberammergau This charming village is famous for its colourful painted houses (Lüftlmalerei), woodcarving traditions and the Passion Play performed every ten years. It’s an excellent stop between Linderhof and Garmisch. 📍Grainau Nestled at the foot of Germany’s highest mountain, Grainau is a peaceful alpine village surrounded by forests and spectacular mountain scenery. It’s the perfect base for exploring the Zugspitze region while enjoying a more relaxed atmosphere than nearby Garmisch Partenkirchen. 📍Eibsee Often called Germany’s most beautiful lake, Eibsee is famous for its crystal clear turquoise water and breathtaking views of the Zugspitze. Walk the easy 7.5 km trail around the lake, rent a kayak or paddle boat in summer, or simply enjoy one of the many swimming spots. Sunrise and sunset offer the most magical light for photography. 📍Zugspitze Take Germany’s highest cable car to the summit of Zugspitze at 2,962 metres. On a clear day you can enjoy panoramic views across Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Italy. Whether you visit for the snow, hiking or simply the scenery, it’s one of Bavaria’s most unforgettable experiences. 📍Partnach Gorge Located near Garmisch Partenkirchen, this spectacular gorge features dramatic waterfalls, narrow rock passages and walkways carved into the cliffs. It’s an easy hike suitable for most visitors and a great addition to the route. 📍Mittenwald Just across the Austrian border, Mittenwald is one of Bavaria’s most picturesque villages. Its beautifully painted buildings, charming cafés and mountain backdrop make it feel straight out of a postcard. Ride the Karwendelbahn cable car for breathtaking alpine views or simply wander the historic centre. 📍Leutasch Ghost Gorge (Leutascher Geisterklamm) Only a few minutes from Mittenwald, this spectacular gorge offers suspended walkways attached to towering cliffs above rushing waterfalls. The easy circular trail is suitable for families and provides some of the most dramatic scenery in the Alps. 📍Walchensee One of Germany’s deepest and most beautiful lakes, Walchensee is known for its turquoise water and mountain surroundings. Drive along the lakeshore, stop at scenic viewpoints or take the Herzogstand cable car for incredible panoramic views. 📍Kochelsee Just south of Munich, Kochelsee is a peaceful lake perfect for relaxing after several days of sightseeing. Nearly a year after my first visit to Germany, I set foot on German soil once again in late November 2017. If my first trip was about exploring Germany's Christmas markets and medieval towns, the highlight of this second journey was Neuschwanstein Castle—a place I had always longed to visit. This time, with Munich (München) as the starting point of my journey, I hopped on a train bright and early to embark on my highly anticipated day trip to Neuschwanstein. ⸻ A Crisp Morning Departure from Munich In winter, dawn breaks late in Munich. At past seven in the morning, the Munich Central Station (München Hauptbahnhof) was still shrouded in a dim sky, its platforms bustling with commuters and travelers ready to head out. Holding my Bavaria Ticket (Bayern-Ticket), I boarded the regional train bound for Füssen. As the train rolled out of the city, towering buildings were gradually replaced by farmhouses, forests, and pastures. The Bavarian countryside looked exceptionally pristine in the winter. The distant Alps were already capped with snow. The occasional small villages we passed, with their scattered red roofs and white churches dotting the fields, looked just like a European postcard. About two hours later, the train arrived at Füssen, a small town at the southern edge of Germany. ⸻ Taking the Bus to Hohenschwangau Stepping out of the station, I followed the signs to catch a bus to Hohenschwangau. Along the way, more and more mountains came into view, and I finally caught a distant glimpse of a pure white castle perched on the mountainside. That was Neuschwanstein Castle. Seeing it with my own eyes for the first time, it was even more surreal than in the photos. The entire castle stood quietly among the forested mountains. Even against an overcast sky, its fairy-tale charm remained entirely undiminished. ⸻ Stepping onto Marienbrücke for the Most Iconic View After purchasing my ticket, I had some free time before my scheduled tour, so I decided to head up to the highly recommended Marienbrücke (Mary's Bridge) first. Although the mountain paths were a bit slippery in the winter, the air was incredibly fresh as I slowly made my way up. The moment I stepped onto the bridge, the view before me took my breath away. Neuschwanstein Castle stood right before my eyes. The white castle was backed by snow-capped mountains, with a deep gorge and a waterfall at its feet, all entirely surrounded by the Bavarian forest. This is the exact inspiration for Disney's fairy-tale castle. Even without blue skies and white clouds, the slightly misty winter landscape actually added an extra touch of mystery. I stood on the bridge for a long time, reluctant to leave, wanting nothing more than to etch everything before me deep into my memory. ⸻ Stepping into the Dream of Ludwig II At my reserved time, I began my tour of Neuschwanstein Castle. The castle isn't actually as ancient as it looks from the outside. It was built in the 19th century by King Ludwig II of Bavaria, who hoped to create an ideal world of his own, far away from political turmoil. Photography is strictly prohibited during the tour, so I could only quietly admire each room. The opulent Throne Room, the soaring Singers' Hall, and the abundant motifs of swans, knights, and opera elements perfectly illustrated the King's deep passion for medieval legends and Richard Wagner's operas. What's most regrettable is that the King died under mysterious circumstances before the castle was completely finished. Therefore, what we see today is only a fraction of the original design. Yet, even so, it remains Germany's most iconic castle. ⸻ A Winter Fairy Tale at the Foot of the Alps After leaving the castle, I took a slow walk back down to Hohenschwangau. Looking back up at Neuschwanstein along the way, the setting sun gently dusted the white walls, bathing the entire castle in a soft golden glow. Nearby, because temperatures were near freezing, the surface of Alpsee (Lake Alp) was as calm as a mirror, reflecting the surrounding mountains and forests. Although it was late winter and there wasn't a heavy blanket of snow, the whole Bavarian mountain region still exuded a rich winter atmosphere. At a restaurant in town, I ordered Bavarian sausages, pork chops, and a steaming bowl of beer soup, warming myself up after a chilly day while experiencing the most authentic German country cuisine. ⸻ Returning to Munich In the evening, I boarded the train back to Munich. The sky outside the window quickly went completely dark. The carriage was incredibly quiet, with most passengers exhausted and resting their eyes. I, on the other hand, scrolled through the photos I had taken today, reminiscing about the awe I felt standing on Marienbrücke earlier. Neuschwanstein Castle had always been something out of travel guides, movies, and fairy tales to me, but today, I had finally walked into that dreamlike castle myself. ⸻ A Second Visit to Germany, A Different Kind of Magic On my first trip to Germany, I fell in love with Nuremberg, the Christmas markets, and medieval towns. On this second visit, I truly felt the natural beauty and romantic vibe of Bavaria. Munich is a vibrant metropolis, while Neuschwanstein feels like a fairy-tale world far removed from the hustle and bustle. Hopping on a train from a bustling city and arriving at the foot of the Alps in less than three hours to witness the world's most famous castle with your own eyes—this kind of journey is exactly what makes Germany so captivating. Looking back on that winter of 2017 years later, the most unforgettable part of that day wasn't just Neuschwanstein itself, but that exact moment standing on Marienbrücke against the biting wind, gazing at the white castle standing silently among the mountains. That picture-perfect scene made me feel as if I had truly stepped into a fairy tale, and it remains the most classic, unforgettable day of my second trip to Germany.

We started our trip from Munich by buying the "Bavarian Ticket," a great value one-day pass, from the station's automatic ticket machine! This ticket is fantastic because the price gets cheaper the more people you travel with, so we, a group of three, were able to save a lot on transportation costs (highly recommended!) ✌️ The train ride from Munich was a bumpy 2 to 2.5 hours each way. Enjoying the scenery from the window, we arrived in Füssen, close to the Austrian border. From there, we transferred to a bus for about 15 minutes to reach the foot of the castle. For getting to the castle after getting off the bus, we chose the shuttle bus without hesitation 🚌 (3.5€ one way, cash required!) After getting off the shuttle bus and walking for about 5 minutes... There it was, the castle we'd been seeing in pictures! The view from the Marienbrücke (Marien Bridge) was so breathtakingly beautiful that I was speechless and overwhelmed with emotion 🥺✨ (It's quite high up and the suspension bridge sways in strong winds, so those with a fear of heights need to be prepared! lol) From there, it was another 10-minute uphill climb. The castle, seen up close, was simply massive and overwhelmingly beautiful! I later learned that the construction had only been completed last year, and the exterior walls and surrounding area were sparkling clean and meticulously maintained. As with my usual whirlwind trips, I didn't go inside the castle, instead focusing on capturing tons of photos of the exterior 📸 lol On the way back, I leisurely walked down the hill and returned from Füssen to Munich. Actually, this trip continued even after returning to Munich 💡 The Bayern Ticket allowed unlimited rides on city trains and trams, so it was incredibly useful for going shopping and heading to restaurants for dinner! I was so impressed by how incredibly cost-effective this single ticket was, allowing me to travel for an entire day! It was a truly wonderful experience, like stepping into a fairytale world the moment I entered! #Germany #NeuschwansteinCastle #Marienbrücke #Füssen #BavarianTicket #MunichTourism #GermanyTourism #OverseasTravel #StunningViews #ShortTrip

Most people treat Füssen as a 10-minute pitstop on the way to the castles. Big mistake. 🏰❌ The Old Town is actually where the soul of the city is. I spent an afternoon doing a "slow walk" through the Altstadt, and the colors alone are worth the trip. From the mural-covered walls of the Museum to the vibrant "Haus des Kindes," every corner feels like a movie set. Here is the perfect "slow" itinerary for your next Germany trip. 🧵 👇 The route you shouldn’t skip: 📍 Museum der Stadt Füssen: For the incredible architecture and history. ⛪ Heilig-Geist-Spitalkirche: A quiet, peaceful architectural gem. ⛲ Stadtbrunnen & Uhrenturm: The heart of the town’s charm. 🍕 The Fuel: Do not sleep on the local Zucchini Pizza, my absolute 10/10. 🌊 Lechbrücke: Finish here for those turquoise river views. Füssen isn't just a gateway; it's the destination. Save this for your Germany bucket list! 🇩🇪✨ #aysabellediary #fussen #travel2026

We came this restaurant after we visited Neuschwanstein Castle and Maria Bridge. We ordered pork knuckles and potatoes salad. When they serve the food, it’s really impress us with the swan decoration. The food deco is Instagramable but the food quality was average especially the pork knuckle dish. The beer was good. It is HB, I love it. The price is reasonable as it is located in the tourist place. #couplestrip #fussen #germanytravel

Füssen is a small town in the Osthard district of Bavaria, Germany. It is one kilometer away from the Austrian border and is the closest transportation hub to Neuschwanstein Castle and Hohenschwangau Castle. This is also the main reason why people are familiar with this town today. The Via Claudia Augusta is an ancient Roman road that connected the Po River with the ancient Roman province of Raetia across the Alps, covering modern eastern Switzerland, northern Italy, western Austria, southern Germany, and parts of Liechtenstein, including Füssen. In the late Roman Empire, Fussen was one of the locations of the Roman Third Legion, whose main purpose was to guard the important trade routes in the Alps. Füssen later became the site of the High Castle, the summer residence of the Prince-Bishops of Augsburg. Below the High Castle are the Baroque complex of the former Benedictine Abbey of St. Mans, dating back to the 9th century. Magnus of Fussen, the founder of the Abbey of St. Mang (Figure 1-2), is the patron saint of Fussen. Since the 1950s, Füssen has been familiar to travelers as the southern terminus of the Romantic Road and was also host to the 1988 World Junior Curling Championships. #GreenTourism #GermanTravel #OverseasTourism #Alps #EuropeanTown #ExploreEuropeanTown #EuropeanTourism #deutschland #füssen #bavaria

Neuschwanstein Castle, the motif of Disney Castle Today, I will introduce you to 'Füssen', a small suburban city of Munich that can be reached in 1.5 hours by train from Munich, Germany! Füssen, which is almost a must-see course for Munich travel, became famous because of Neuschwanstein Castle in the photo. I took a train from Munich to go to “Füssen”! Actually, it seems a bit far to go from Munichㅠㅅㅠ.. If you are traveling to Munich, I think it would be good to set aside a day for a trip to Füssen! It takes about 2 hours from Munich Central Station to Füssen Central Station, and it takes another hour to get to Schwangau or other tourist attractions from there! #tripaway Amidst beautiful, green natural scenery, just a few minutes from Neuschwanstein and the neighbouring castle of Hohenschwangau, Bavaria’s highest town, Füssen, lies on the shores of the Alpine River Lech. It marks the convergence of popular tourism routes such as the Romantic Road, the German Alpine Road and the Trans-Alpine Via Claudia Augusta. Up above, the Hohe Schloss, or High Castle, sits in majesty with its richly coloured illusionist paintings. In the romantic streets of Füssen old town, medieval town houses sit alongside impressive Baroque churches. In summer, the many street cafés lend the old town district an almost Italian flair. Beautiful views can be enjoyed not only from the towers of the Hohe Schloss but also from boat trips on Lake Forggensee – including Neuschwanstein Castle against an Alpine backdrop. Traces of the Bavarian kings abound in Füssen. The Hohe Schloss above the old town, the former summer residence of the Bishops of Augsburg, was due to be woken from its slumber in the 19th century and turned into a residence for Crown Prince Maximilian, father of the Fairy Tale King, Ludwig II. But things took a different turn: on a journey through the Alps, Maximilian came across the ruins of Schwanstein Castle and had his castle, Hohenschwangau, built there, just a few kilometres from Füssen. A royal dream – The Allgäu on both sides of the River Lech, between wild mountains and idyllic lakes – this was the favourite retreat of the Bavarian Fairy Tale King Ludwig II, where he could escape from the everyday life of government in Munich. Here he turned his dreams into reality with Neuschwanstein Castle. The view from Neuschwanstein Castle extends far out into the countryside. Standing on the balcony of the throne room on a castle tour, you can see why Ludwig II chose this particular location for his “Holy Grail”. #tripaway

#CityTrip #Germany #Füssen #Disney Leaving the gloomy Zugspitze behind, I went for a drive to see Neuschwanstein Castle, the castle that became the background of the Disney logo, while feeling the picturesque scenery of Fussen. Neuschwanstein Castle, famous for being the most beautiful in the world, is the ‘Swan Castle’ built by Ludwig II of the Bavarian royal family from 1869 to 1886 with light gray granite. It is said that it is because it looks like a swan gracefully landing in the Bavarian forest. Ludwig II, a 13-year-old boy who was engrossed in Wagner’s opera Lohengrin, wanted to build the beautiful castle that appears in the opera, and he is said to have been obsessed with building the castle without being interested in politics. After losing the war with Prussia and becoming a king in name only, his obsession with the castle grew even worse, and he poured the rest of his life and all his wealth into it, earning him the nickname of the ‘mad king’. But that’s understandable. If you think about how the construction materials were transported to such a high place, the workers must have died a lot. However, it is said that Ludwig II only stayed in this beautiful castle for 6 months. He was found dead by suicide in Lake Stallenberg in Munich before Neuschwanstein Castle, which was his everything, was completed. The mystery of his death is still unsolved, but at the time, Ludwig II was not concerned about the country’s finances and was obsessed with building the castle, earning him the stigma of being the ‘mad king’. However, thanks to his madness, his descendants have benefited greatly from tourism revenue alone. The best place to view Neuschwanstein Castle is from the Marien Bridge, so even if it’s hard, be sure to go up there~~~ #City Travel

Fairytale world, Neuschwanstein, Germany! Disney Castle Prototype Germany Neuschwanstein, the prototype of the Disney Sleeping Princess Castle, Neuschwan Castle after snowing, just like the fairy tale world, full of artistic temperament, standing Looking up at the castle, it is too beautiful, this is the castle in the dream! The biggest snow in my life, the Neuschwanstein Castle on Marianne Bridge is blurred in the snow, so good, I will come again in the summer!

Füssen is a truly breathtaking and enchanting location, offering a classic blend of snow-capped peaks and grazing meadows in the classic German-Bavarian style. This charming town in southern Bavaria's Alps has been exceptionally well-preserved, celebrating the splendor of ancient valley villages and the timeless beauty of the mountain ranges. Sacred sites and the story of the stunning white church bell tower atop the hill are captivating. The surrounding atmosphere is incredibly beautiful and uplifting. Crystal-clear turquoise lakes and vast meadows are perfectly nestled amidst lush forested hills, bathed in the pure, refreshing Alpine breeze, providing ultimate relaxation and rejuvenation. · A Masterpiece The highlight of this trip, popular for its scenic walking routes and opportunities to experience Bavarian lifestyle, is the "stunning walking trail along the waterfront and Alpine meadows." The natural stone block walkway curves around the square and the following important landmarks: · Seeg Village View: A magical view of a German countryside village near Füssen, featuring rolling green meadows, traditional Alpine-style houses, and a charming white church bell tower perched on a hillside, like something out of a painting. · Alpine Road Sign to Füssen: The romantic road leading to Füssen is highlighted by a bright yellow traffic sign prominently displayed by the roadside, next to a solitary large tree, with the Alps, natural rock structures, and snow-capped peaks as a backdrop. · Forggensee Pier: A small wooden pier extending out onto the crystal-clear waters of Lake Forggensee, reflecting the clear blue water like a mirror. • Surrounded by white sandy pebble paths and towering mountain ranges that have escaped the hustle and bustle, creating a stunning and breathtaking landscape. · Hiking Trail over Tegelberg: Vast expanses of lush green meadows stretch to the horizon, with a leisurely trail for hikers to breathe in the fresh air. In the foreground, towering limestone peaks with a thin layer of snow stand out, highlighting their solemnity alongside the verdant pine forests. · Getting There Travel by local train from Munich Central Station directly to Füssen, or choose a road trip along the southern Bavarian highway for the most convenient and independent access to these natural locations and ancient villages. (The highlight time, with clear, cool weather and lush green meadows, is from May to September. You can stop by and sample "freshly baked pretzels" and "authentic Bavarian beer" at traditional restaurants located near the rest stops for a truly authentic culinary experience year-round.) · Opening Hours and Entrance Fees Area around Lake Forggensee, Alpine Road And the viewpoint in the valley's meadows allows you to stop, take photos, and relax for free all day long. The moment I stood on Marienbrücke looking down at the valley, I finally understood why countless people flock to Neuschwanstein Castle. Pure white walls set against dark mountains, spires piercing the clouds, backed by the rolling Alps, with layers of lush green forests and lakes below. It is not a rigid, solemn royal castle, but rather a dream that landed on the mountain peak out of thin air—a romantic utopia that King Ludwig II spent his entire life creating. Viewing the castle from afar is the essence of the experience; compared to the crowded interior tours, I prefer strolling around the perimeter. Walking slowly along the mountain trails, the castle looks different from every angle: on sunny days, the walls are dazzlingly bright white; on cloudy days, it's covered in a thin mist, bringing a cool, atmospheric vibe. Every snapshot looks like a postcard. The wind blows through the pine forests in the valley, the distant lake shimmers with soft light, and the red-tiled Bavarian countryside spreads out at the foot of the mountain. It's hard to imagine that over a hundred years ago, someone was determined enough to build such a castle, belonging only to fantasy, on a steep mountain peak. No need to rush with the crowds; just stand here quietly and gaze into the distance, and you might just understand this romance that belongs uniquely to Bavaria. ✨Travel Tips ▪️Classic panoramic spot: Marienbrücke (A must-visit! The best spot to photograph the castle exterior) ▪️Route: Head up from the town of Füssen; you can choose to walk, take a horse-drawn carriage, or take the shuttle bus ▪️Outfit suggestion: Light-colored long dresses, which go perfectly with the white castle and green mountain backdrop ▪️Time allocation: If you want to photograph the exterior, I suggest setting aside an extra hour. No need to rush into the castle; the mountain scenery is worth taking your time to explore 🌿Tips ▫️Best time to visit: June–September, when the vegetation is lush and the days are long ▫️Outfit: Light-colored, French-style long dresses are very photogenic ▫️Nearby stops: Füssen, Hohenschwangau Castle

Just got back from Bavaria, and I'm so mad 😤 Who told me October–November is the off-season? Off-season, my foot! The only thing "off" is the number of tourists; the autumn colors are rich, and all of Bavaria is beautiful. Bavaria from mid-October to early November is like an overturned palette. The best part is there are fewer people and hotels are cheaper. I'm absolutely obsessed 😭 🇩🇪 Why Bavaria? Honestly, Bavaria is the soul of Germany. The Alps, Königssee, fairytale castles, and medieval towns—all of Germany's most dreamy scenery is packed into this one area. Plus, from October to early November, Bavaria's autumn colors are at their peak. Golden larches, fiery red maple leaves, and snow-capped peaks all in one frame—every photo looks like a postcard. 🏰 Must-visit attractions Neuschwanstein Castle: The prototype for the Disney castle and a masterpiece by Ludwig II. Honestly, the popular photo spot on Marienbrücke is very small; it gets crowded with just five or six people. If you want a shot without people, you must arrive before 8:00 AM. Also, the bridge may close temporarily if it's icy, so be sure to check the official website before you head out. Tickets are €21. Be sure to book your timed entry tickets on the official website in advance, as they often sell out on-site by the morning. Königssee: An emerald lake hidden deep in the Alps. The water is so clear that you can hear the echo when the boatman plays the trumpet. Note that boat schedules are reduced after October 12, and from November 9, the winter schedule only goes as far as St. Bartholomä, so you won't be able to hike to Obersee. Check the boat schedule before you go. Rothenburg: A medieval "pearl town" surrounded by intact ancient city walls. Cobblestone streets paired with colorful timber-framed houses—the autumn atmosphere is incredible. Zugspitze: Germany's highest peak. Taking the cable car up in October with autumn leaves in the background—snow-capped mountains and golden autumn in one frame—is a photographer's paradise. 🍽️ Food recommendations Roast pork knuckle: The soul food of Bavaria. The skin is crispy and crunchy, and the inside is so tender it falls off the bone. It's served with sauerkraut and mashed potatoes to cut the richness, costing €18–25 per serving. Ratskeller München is located in the cellar of the New Town Hall at Marienplatz. It has a century of history and an amazing atmosphere, but note that it will undergo major renovations starting in 2026, so you can still catch it if you go before December 31, 2025. Weisswurst (white sausage): A signature Munich breakfast made with veal, served with sweet mustard and a pretzel. Traditionally, it's only eaten before noon. Käsespätzle (cheese noodles): Handmade egg noodles with rich cheese and fried onions. It's savory, cheesy, and a favorite among women. Apple strudel: Warm, flaky pastry wrapped around cinnamon apples, drizzled with vanilla sauce. It's sweet but not cloying, making it the top choice for dessert. 🏨 Accommodation recommendations Munich: The area around Marienplatz in the Old Town is the most convenient, within walking distance to the Town Hall and the Frauenkirche. However, prices skyrocket during Oktoberfest, so you need to book one or two months in advance. If you want to save money, stay near the Central Station or at a chain hotel in the suburbs. Füssen: A town at the foot of Neuschwanstein Castle. Staying one night allows you to see the sunrise over the mountains, which is a much better experience than a day trip from Munich. Berchtesgaden: A town near Königssee, suitable as a base for the lake area. There aren't many restaurants, but it has a very authentic German feel. 💡 Tips ① Shops are closed on Sundays! Supermarkets, malls, and small shops are all closed. Buy snacks and water in advance; only small shops at train stations and airports are open. ② There is a large temperature difference between morning and evening in October–November. A medium-thick jacket and a knit sweater are standard. Add a light down jacket for mountain areas, and carry an umbrella for unpredictable weather. ③ The Bayern Ticket offers unlimited 24-hour travel on trains and buses throughout the state. It costs about €25 for one person, and it's more cost-effective to split the ticket for 2–5 people. It's essential for traveling between towns. ④ Photography is not allowed inside Neuschwanstein Castle. The tour takes about half an hour. I recommend renting the official audio guide to really understand what you're seeing. ⑤ Christmas markets start opening one after another in late November. If you stay until then, the Nuremberg market is the most worth visiting. Bavaria is truly worth it. Go in October–November—it's less crowded, beautiful, and affordable. Before it gets completely overrun by tourists, pack your bags and go ✈️
