🗓️ Detailed Itinerary
📍 Day 1: Arrive in Jiuzhi, initial plateau experience
· Morning: Arrival and acclimatization Arrive at Zhiqingsongduo Town in Jiuzhi County (altitude about 3,800 meters) from Xining or Chengdu (after the Jiuma Expressway fully opens by year-end, travel time from Chengdu to Jiuzhi will shorten to 5.5 hours). Avoid strenuous exercise upon arrival to prevent altitude sickness. You can stroll around the town to slowly adapt.
· Afternoon: Visit Baiyu Monastery Head to Datang Baiyu Monastery, a Nyingma sect Tibetan Buddhist monastery at 3,780 meters altitude with unique terrain and magnificent scenery. Please follow monastery rules and keep quiet during the visit.
· Evening: Hotel check-in and Tibetan cuisine experience Check into a pre-booked economy hotel such as Jiuzhi Tiancheng Hotel or Sanyi Business Hotel. For dinner, we recommend Ningyou Xiangrui Tibetan Restaurant to taste authentic Tibetan dishes like butter tea, tsampa, yak meat buns, Tibetan-style pizza, etc.
📍 Day 2: Distant view of sacred mountain and grassland lakeside
· Morning: View Nianbaoyuze and Daughter Bay scenery Although the core scenic area of Nianbaoyuze National Geopark is currently closed, you can still admire the majestic sacred mountain and its surrounding magnificent scenery from a distance. Then visit Daughter Bay to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Yellow River’s first bend and the grasslands.
· Afternoon: Explore local villages and return If time permits, visit nearby Ningyou Village to experience a herder’s home and Tibetan culture. Then start your return journey according to your transportation plan.
📌 Practical Travel Tips
1. Altitude sickness: Jiuzhi County has a high average altitude (county seat about 3,800 meters). It is recommended to avoid strenuous exercise upon arrival, keep warm, and prevent colds. Prepare Rhodiola, oxygen bottles, etc. in advance (local hospitals or pharmacies should also have them).
2. Weather and clothing: The plateau weather is changeable with large temperature differences between day and night. Even in summer, warm clothing is necessary. Be sure to bring a windbreaker, fleece, light down jacket, sunscreen, sunglasses, and sun hat.
3. Environmental protection and civility: The plateau ecosystem is fragile. Please protect the environment, do not litter, do not pick plants, and do not disturb wildlife.
4. Respect local culture: Jiuzhi is a Tibetan ethnic area. Please respect local religious beliefs and customs. When visiting monasteries, follow the rules such as no loud talking and no touching Buddha statues or ritual objects.
5. Cash preparation: Jiuzhi County may have few bank branches, and withdrawing cash can sometimes be inconvenient (previously reported no ATMs, cash withdrawal requires queuing at counters). It is recommended to prepare enough cash in advance.
6. Tickets and policies: The core scenic area of Nianbaoyuze National Geopark is currently closed. Please confirm the latest updates before traveling.
I hope this guide helps you plan an unforgettable trip to Jiuzhi! Wishing you a pleasant journey and abundant harvest!
