The best time to visit is early in the morning (7:00 AM – 9:00 AM), when the soft morning light enhances the beauty of the flowers, and the streets are peaceful ✨ 📍Yuci District, Jinzhong, Shanxi, China We then visited Chang Family Manor, a grand Qing Dynasty residence known for its impressive courtyards and gardens. During spring, cherry blossoms 🌸 bloom in the garden areas, providing a stunning contrast to the ancient buildings. We explored the stone pathways and found a secluded pavilion where petals gently fell into the pond, creating a perfect photo opportunity 🙌 The best time to visit is between 9:30 AM – 11:30 AM, when the light is soft and ideal for photography 📸 📍Jinzhong City, Shanxi, China We also made our way to Mian Mountain ⛰️ a breathtaking mountain range where cherry blossoms bloom along the hiking trails and temple grounds. The combination of rugged cliffs, historic temples, and delicate pink flowers was absolutely mesmerizing. Between 1:30 PM – 3:00 PM, the lighting ✨ was perfect for capturing the full beauty of this unique cherry blossom spot. It was founded in the sixth year of the Tang Kaiyuan era (714 AD) and has been repaired throughout history. Jingxin Temple faces north and south, consisting of two courtyards. A brick wall with the character "Fu" is erected at the mountain gate, and the central axis lines the stage, Pilu Hall, and Tianwang Hall from south to north. On both sides, there are viewing galleries, Baiyi Hall, Huiquan Hall, Bell and Drum Tower, Tianwang Hall, Stele Gallery, Guanyin Hall, Ksitigarbha Hall, and Guan Gong Hall. There are 76 colored sculptures and 180 square meters of murals preserved in the temple, which are relics of ancient plastic arts, mainly focusing on Buddhism and folk customs. The Yuci Chang family were prominent merchants in Shanxi and pioneers in Sino-Russian trade. Although the Chang Family Manor is not as famous as the Qiao Family Courtyard, it is sixteen times larger! Construction of the Chang Family Manor began during the Qianlong and Jiaqing periods of the Qing Dynasty. It covers an area of 600,000 square meters, with over 4,000 rooms, more than 50 buildings, and 13 small gardens. In the southwest corner of the backyard of Zishou Temple is the Erlang Hall, also known as the Qingyuan Zhenjun Hall. This hall is dedicated to Erlang Shen, also known as Zhao Yu, accompanied by his attendants and his loyal dog, Xiaotian Quan. Erlang Shen, or Zhao Yu, was honored as Qingyuan Miaodao Zhenjun during the reign of Emperor Zhenzong of the Song Dynasty. Originally a brave warrior under the Jade Emperor in Taoism, he was later incorporated into Buddhism as a guardian deity, reflecting the fusion and respect between religions. Feng Menglong, a renowned writer of the late Ming Dynasty, vividly described the appearance of Erlang Shen in his compilation "Awakening the World": "Dragon eyebrows, phoenix eyes, white teeth, and fresh lips." This description coincides with the image of the deity enshrined in the Erlang Hall of Zishou Temple, showcasing the divine charm. I stayed here once when it first opened. It was considered a good hotel in the area at that time. This time I came back after five or six years, and it is obviously a bit old. There is also an air purifier in the room, but the winter in Shanxi is too dry, so a humidifier may be more practical than a purifier. Only went once for breakfast, not much choice, no coffee (maybe instant coffee). The restaurant chef was very friendly. I held a cup and wanted to borrow some hot water, but the thermos was too high to fit under the water dispenser. Seeing this, the chef specially boiled a pot of water for me.
